Mmm..i think the rod itself plays a very important part also.once seen the legendary 'iron man' foul hooked  a 33kg mekong with a daiwa Z h2020 nia.

Need to bring the missus along, she complain sun la hot la insects la etc. no choice, bring her to hulu langat nicest one for her dy. i have yet to explore other places, if i myself as long as the pond has mekong and the price rate is lower than hulu langat i will go. any other pay pond suggestion? throw it in here!   

ahh the missus.  some suggestions of ponds with mekongs:

1) kolam seksyen 24  aka. kolam warga emas (@ section 24 shah alam)
Rate: rm30+ for 10 hours i think. (correct me if wrong)
Bait: Can buy there or bring your own to mixes/ingredients/flavorings.
Mekongs: plenty, with sizes up to 30kg++.  in addition got weekly jackpot.
Catch rate: High pressure due to popularity. on weekends + the crowd sometimes no place to put rod stand even.
Comfort: They have huts all over the pond with chairs. No fan la. 
Bring bro katsumoto2011 when u go. Sure catch, he's a regular i think. lol 

2) bukit tambun mekong pond (@ bukit tambun, penang. not the perak tambun yea!  )
Rate: 30+ whole day if not wrong
Bait: Provided i think rm10 per bucket. only house bait allowed.
Mekongs: Sizes not as big as seksyen 24 one. 10-20kg got la. much smaller pond also. jackpot on certain tagged fishes
Catch rate: Higher than sekysen 24 due to pond size and also the use of only house bait. 
Comfort: Refer pic below. And also abit smelly because got small river/parit behind it


3) monster mekong pond (@ Kundang, Rawang)

For others i think you can check out the same blog. Quite an extensive database of the payponds in Malaysia by a very dedicated blogger
APR i think they taking in stock end of the year. yep tested before. even tried the first version of the AJN rod as well few years back when it was new to the market. but currently, i only own the JJJ.

dont bother go hulu langat , expansive , small mekong , limited fishing time , poor bite rate
not to mention only house bait , float , hook are allow , that mean you have to pay extra for it

Its interesting to know they will test it out at the Palms .. They use shimano bait runners, stella's, twinpowers, to pair with their Uptide rods over there. Would love to see how the Ryojin stands against their giants provide a giant is at the end of the line 

Hahahaha.. in my case , My fiance accompanied me almost everywhere I fished, you name it from 13 hours exposed to heat and rain or some mid night action... lol.. complains from her were there, but after a few trips, she kinds of get the drill... the complains will slowly die off. Infact shockingly a month oor two ago she asked me for her own setup... ahahahaha

For an example, the Ripsaw Niger you posted, that fish you usually takes the bait during heavy rain/monsoon season in Thailand..  I've fished in Palm Tree a number of times with bro takeshiru. Owner is a good acquaintance of us..

Most of our specimens were all landed during the monsoon and heavy rain (the odds were against us). We started our campaign as early as 8am and we closed at 8pm landing a staggering collection.

Btw my trip with bro takeshiru is coming up slightly before ur trip, when I meet the owner and the guides there, maybe I can just inform sikit2 to them that you guys are coming as well. The owner always love a good loyal recommendation and will be onsite to fish with you guys if she knows bout it.  Sometimes she is out of the country visiting her husband who works in Australia .. the actual owner of the Palms to be exact.

To me tak berbaloi .. unless you love a good fight with an Amazon RTC and Baung and you dont get bored of it easily. Dont get me wrong, there are plenty of other species too, but the odds in favour might be less considering the ratio of the cats there are way overboard and those cats are generally hungry and will take anything you throw at them. Anyways, Exotic Rawang Management are opening up a new casting pond in Behrang ... just by the side of North-South highway, on your right when ur driving up to Ipoh.. Last I passed there, the digging work and shed constructions are done. Should be early next year or most likely after CNY should be the opening ceremony. Quite promising lineup of fishes will be filled in there according to the staff working at Rawang.

Went exotic yesterday and today. Caught 3 red tail cat and 1 baung today. Yesterday nothing cause I'm still learning about the pond. The rt catfish gave a really good fight. Don't think I will go back anytime soon. Looking forward for some Mekong now.

If u really want Mekong, can go Kolam Pancing Seksyen 24 in Shah Alam try. Last time it run away with my 100 meter line, then kena diao by other angler there because  my line tangled with theirs  .
Use bomb/bong (whatever they called it) rig with 2 hook, after that cucuk the pallet that has been mixed well with strawberries flavoring. But inside the bomb put use normal pallet (haven't mix with strawberries).

The method that I use teach by the indonesian guy that work there.
Hmm... What type of pallet u buy? The red one or brownish color ? Last time I bought the brown color is too soft cannot cucuk.

Haha, at least you manage to land the Mekong. What time is the best time to go? Ie time where there's lesser people and more bites?
I saw their FB page they uploaded a photo of a arapaima there. No luck catching it. Staff told me go there from 5-6am the best, throw in line sure kena bite straight away. Haha, I also scared uncle diao leh, I heard from exotic worker, he say once you hook a Mekong at seksyen 24,  other angler have to reel in their line to prevent tangle. I bought few bomb rig already, now only see when to go. I can't even cast accurately yet, later go there let people diao. xD

Everyday also people mountain people sea? I prefer to go during less people, always go let people around me kacau/stare/diao me cause I'm new to fishing.
