this one okuma XPD has a build in line counter and it also has a higher line capacity like a 420m 0.40mm
user posted image

the only flaw is that it only have the two pathetic ball bearing. T.T

this one on the other hand.......has lower line capacity like a 150m 0.45mm but it has like 5 ball bearing and the whole reel is........GOLD. its golden colour dammit..........
and the damn thing look like a freaking shimano Calcutta from far.
just look at it. how can you saw no to it.........T.T

user posted imageuser posted image

starion's a nice budget reel for f/w bottom, casting and light jigging
no idea how it'll serve for surf fishing tho'

from the little i know, line counters are for trolling and/or downrigging
lets you know exactly how much line or how far back your lure is from the boat or how deep is your bait
*
thank you for the nice info about starion and the line counter.......

as to your question........simple....mount the starion on to a surf rod.......then swing hardd....

today catch........

I owe my pinnacle inertia an apology......
baitcaster drag's strength is stronger when you mount it on a stronger rod like a surf rod.

another thing I found out today.

cry.gif

I still can't decide which to buy?

banax starion or okuma pro XT with line counter. cry.gif

banax has more ball bearing and looks nice and cooler......its gold dammit....
the largest banax starion the 400 only has 0.45mm/150m capacity

okuma on the other hand can load more line like 0.45mm/450m. i'm gonna need more line if I hook my self a game fish! and you get know how far you've cast the line.

meet the need first .... always
then get the starion to satisfy the like wink.gif biggrin.gif

and having more BB does not always nor automatically mean better or performs better
i'd rather settle for less if it can perform better, last longer, be able to take what the fish dishes out
*
see la....

rite now i'm having trouble finding left handed banax starion 400.
left handed 300 they have.....but figure i'm gonna buy it anyway, I might as well swing for the largest they have the 400

another thing i'm a little worried that okuma drag force is........well looow

Whats the diffs 300&400?how many yards can the 300 fit in? What fish ur targeting btw?lol
*
banax starion comes in 3 size 100, 300 and the 400. small medium, large........blink.gif
300 ----> 0.40mm/130m
and a 300 has one more ballbearing than the 400. don't ask me, asked that douche that made it
300 ---->5+1bb
400----->4+1bb

every fish that you can catch with surf fishing.
I will fish any saltwater port. but not fresh water.
I just don't like fresh water fish

what are you doing dweeb?

QUOTE(acheong7 @ Aug 28 2014, 09:55 PM)
no idea bout the okuma's drag
but that reel holds almost 3 times as much line as the starion @_@

starion 400L ... orchid tackle in klang has it @ rm230
TCE Tackles having sale ... can look them up as well
*
oh yeah.......

I went to young trading yesterday.
and I showed him a picture of that okuma XPT and I ask him how much are they selling them for.
he said " oh sorry we ran out stock. shakehead.gif then I proceed in asking what is that reel there in the cupboard below you?" that reel its right there in your stupid cupboard jackass! vmad.gif
to add to that.....while TCE are selling okuma for RM185. those goons at young trading is selling them for RM200 something. its the same damn reel but there cost 30 or more extra. what the hell la!

yeah I know tce are selling the 100 and the 300 cost around RM275!

by the way....banax starion has up to 12kg drag force.....but I won't put much hope in it. a reel that cost 200+ each.....I doubt it can even reel in a 5kg fish

as mentioned TCE Tackle is having a sale so it's to be expected their prices can be lower than the usual, eg at Young
Young has a good rep but they're not magicians
and being human, they may forget things

easy on the comebacks
this is just good natured ribbing .. camaraderie ... needs to start somewhere mah

20kg of drag is not unusual
there are other reels with more
just depends on purpose, design and $
5kg drag reels can handle fish in the xxkg no prob
rod works with reel drag in tandem ... 's y the rod bends under pressure
they need to be allowed to work together
what is more important is whether the drag is smooth or not
when drag is smooth, there is no jerking = no unnecessary stress exerted on line and reel
max drag values may not give you the real picture
general rule of thumb for some is to set drag at 25-30% of your line/rod rating
when you lock your drag ... be prepared to lose fish should the line snap, rod break, reel spoil
happy hunting smile.gif
*
see that's the problem.....I've never caught anything that weight more than 500G.
what?
places where I do my fishing, they don't have fighters over there.
the largest fish I ever caught was a stringray the size of a shoe box!

QUOTE(acheong7 @ Sep 1 2014, 10:48 PM)
actually .. .the starion 100 is more than sufficient then
the 200 is for the increased line cap
my eldest just had his first taste of a 3kg jelawat with a starion 100+15lb PP bitemotion on a spiral wrapped daiwa strikeforce 8-17lb
next was a 1.5kg pacu with an antares V2 with 14-16lb duel on a 6' 6" spiral wrapped Vicious Anglers wink.gif
he didn't want to pass the rods to me ! lol

if you can cast really far then the 400 is unavoidable .. just to get those 500g fish from shore
otherwise, a smaller sized reel may just suffice
*
what's a jelawat?
pacu I know......overgrown piranha with human teeth

look man. a baitcaster that is mount on an average 6ft batcasting rod probably has 15-20ft casting distance. depend how on your drag setting and how you swing it.
but when you mount a baitcaster to a 9ft - 14 surf rod ( i'm swinging a 9ft ), your casting distance increase in double easily.....
to add to that after every single cast.....there's only 20-30% line remain on my reel. if by luck the gods plan to give me a surprised and hook me a fighting fish, ima so screwed.

FYI i'm currently using pinnacle inertia finesse 12/120
FYI again......banax starion 100l also has the same line capacity as pinnacle.....12/120 while the 300 is 14/250
refer to this site : http://www.knkfishing.com/pd-banax-starion...ishing-reel.cfm

there's no banax starion 200......either 100, 300 or 400

hoven's carp.....strange name for such a normal looking fish.
oh well fresh water fish are never my thing....

QUOTE(vioxmonsta @ Sep 2 2014, 10:14 AM)
what your line poundage anyway bro?
you seems lacked confidences in your gears/terminal tackles on 500grams fish
get a good braided line
10lbs line can fit in 250yards on the banax starion 300(paiseh,don have the 200 model)..that is morethan sufficient for 0.5-2kg fish.
*
i'm planning to load 30lb mono as mainline and 50lb mono as leader on my new reel........but anyway it not the line problem.
the problem is that I have never caught any fish weight more than 500g. so I don't know what will happen. chances are that fish gonna pull all my line out before it gets tired. so i'm gonna need a lot of line. strong line.

yo man.......um....I got a question....how do you know if the reel that you bought is faan pan or original?

FYI this is what banax starion look like in banax site
user posted image

this is what they have in tackle shop and lelong.com.my
user posted image

then there is this one with spool that has holes...
user posted image

conclusion......I think i'm gonna either go for okuma with line counter or banax GMC. the banax starion.....unless they have left handed 400.

well my blue 100 is like that gold 100 ... grey knobs and drilled spool
from what i've seen, the bigger versions do not have drilled spools
the newer versions carry those cork-like handles (for the 100 series)
that topmost unit looks kinda like a 400
anyway, if the site is not updated ..... heheheh
*
oi oi oi banax starion use centrifugal brake system rite.
any casting problem you know compare to a low profile reels that has magnetic braking system

I read about it. but can't really understand though......

correct .. centri brakes ... which i prefer over magnetic brakes
guess i'd gotten used to it as i started off with centri brakes

centri brakes start working practically immediately to slow down the spool ... well educate thumb is an asset
whereas mag brakes begin working towards end of the cast to slow down the spool
that said, singchow mai can still happen with mag brakes reels
*
sing what?

if you r referring to the term bird nest, I get it.
I agreed with you on the getting backlash even with a magnetic braking system reel. I still get backlash even when I set the brake properly. T.T
dude is the casting far and smooth with the banax starion............man its so hard to find 400l

hey can I get some opinion on the banax GMC and okuma reels.

what he meant was that presentation of the bait matters. same goes to your rigs.
*
presentation you say.....
alright I play along.

FYI i'm using this rig

user posted image

its what I call it my universal rig. I used this rig for both my surf rod and my baitcaster.
and I have catch a hand fun of varieties of fish.....with this rig.

small jack, whiting, mojarra, grouper, snapper, rays, croaker, grunter, catfish.......

I have however used other varieties of rig. but somehow I think three way rigs works better for me.
