help help~~

i recently bought a beginner rod and reel.
pair it up with 30lbs braided line.

everytime i cast, sure got fried meehoon flying out. so i remove the line and re-reel. got better after a few cast.

then whenever i cast further than the previous 1, it will come back again.
is there any incompatibility issue? or i have to tie a weight, and cast as far as possible several times to break in?
*
option 1 - cheapest option
remove spool, soak in hot boiling water for 1-2 minutes. add big heavy weight and start casting 10-20 times. ok liao ba. last time when i play with nylon also usually will chau mai fun . now nylon is for make as leader string. FG knot with my braided best dowhhh huhu .

option 2 - expensive option
change to mono or braided. wont have such chau mai fun issue.

yes. it written there PE braid.

all also is plastic. PE is a type of plastic. they just take strands and braid it so it become sttronger and smoother. PE lines are what ppl in cantonese call "bou seng" = cloth line.

it prevents chau mai fun and since it is smoother gliding out, and lighter, they can reel more throw further and still have plenty of drag strength.

the colors on braided i know. my friend bought. more expensive, got indication 1. every color = x meter. dunno 1-5 meter per color. is just indicator.

just got back from anglers convention at setia convention center. many goodies i got.

bought myself ajiking dogtooth rod and wahoo 4500s. imma going out for GT jor. on paper, max drag 25kg. hopefully i get to use all that 25kg of pulling force.

TCE booth was biggest. i think they sapu at least 1/2 the floorspace. bought some cheapo bait for pond fishing. dunno work or not, try out first since cheap. wanted to buy waist belt, RM 14. end up didnt. instead i aimed at the cooler box from igloo. i bought their 259 pakej, no wheels but 48l+cooler+lunchbox set combo. good buy, cheaper than coleman.

shimano out of my range, the beastmaster din gao still not in my bajet. stella can lagi forget it.

walked over to surecatch ATC booth. wanted buy ATC but none of it is for sale. all for demo purposes only. Valiant replaced by valor. personnel say mebbe 2 months time can see in shops.

TCE carry okuma and ajiking and a few more. ajiking most tempting offer so i purchased lor. the wahoo 4500s very solid. since i bundle that with dogtooth rod, is RM 360 total. ok wat.

the rod casing from surecatch also cheap. RM 15 for 5" hard casing. bagui wei.

Average 50m bottom, my recommendation for no skill ppl is 8000 reel, 3:6 mh rod, 60-80lbs braid 90 lead twin hook or Sam char ngau if u empty handed for an hour. No Apollo. Who invented Apollo should be shot dead.

With heavy gear u can bottom up with less effort. Easiest still electric reel but beastmaster still expensive. I wish I can beastmaster also sigh. Can only dream.

1st time buy cheap reel . Feel it then slowly upgrade. If u got cash to splash then go medium level gear.

My friend bought cheap set cause not sure whether he will be hooked on fishing. 6 months later he gian like crazy then keep upgrading gear.

Cheap set should be around RM 100+ for full set. 60 bucks reel, 30 bucks rod, some cheap nylon string and pariah hook. All slightly less than RM 120. Can catch also what. Out in pulau angsa some more. But don't expect it to last la. When technique not there, what reel also will die 1.

Mahem this 1 moon on board , current quite unsteady also wanna Apollo. Bloody fool it will swing everywhere wei . Cross everyone line just for small fish.

may i ask which boatman you going with ?
bro bottom lah , you need to take the sinker size in to consideration
Port klang zeezone will be using at least 18 to 32 , average is 24

your setup for jigging can lah , for bottom cannot lah
this setup is ok , but i wont recommended to use triple hook
*
For newbie okla . Treble hook bait all around or live action bait ppl will understand. For those seasoned veterans like yourself, even myself jr still, won't use lor. Later the fish become kiamchai before it come up .

On a side note, any jigging kaki in here? Sotong jiggers ? I heard next month is mersing sotong festival. Anyone interested ?

i'm also jigging. mostly bottom jigging. switching to jigging doesnt mean u dont play bottom anymore. it just means your style of fishing has changed.

switching to casting doesnt mean you dont play bottom anymore either. it just means your style of fishing via reels has changed.

so i have no idea what message you are trying to convey here. if u tell me u are popping jig, then at least the message gets through.

Just wanna share some knots.

for years i've used the clinch knot to tie on my hooks. from mono to lead i've always used FG. yea these are very complex knots. takes time, patience and a whole load of strength.

then throughout the course i've switched to uni and double uni. these are fantastic, quick, fast, easy.

nowadays, i'm on davy knot and blood knot. what i prefer is quick, fast, easy and yet still strong. the double davy knot for hooks is really quick. good for those who carry a 80lbs> leader line. the strength needed is less than the uni.
from mono to leader i use bloodknot. super quick, and good for those who handle >50lbs mono nylon to adjoin with 60lbs> leader. i like the bloodknot over the FG now. less strength needed, less complexity due to the braid method, less time and yet still small and smooth.

i've attached some youtube vids to share for those who are new. hope this helps. all knots are great, some have advantages over the other. but over the course of years, i've grown to love quick knots over the more complex ones.

leader to hook knots

davy knot & double davy knot - fastest knot !

uni & double uni knot

clinch knot

non slip mono knot

snell knot

mono to leader knots

bloodknot - smallest

slimm beauty knot

FG knot - strongest knot !

J-knot

Aussie Quick knot

Tom pierce knot

hope this helps.

uni and davy are really fast knots. good and strong but not as strong as others. if when out in open sea or when already fishing at paid pond, these knots are great to use and really quick.

bloodknot is fast for mono to lead. knots are small and smooth to go through the SIC/FUJI loops. these are just my preferences as there are many knots out there. hope this info can help some of you.

i love fg and uni also. before i set off, i always prepare fg and on my hook, its clinch. only when i hit the waters and something goes wrong like line getting caught, then its a quick uni + double uni.

now that i've tried davy + blood, i kinda like it over uni+double uni. davy is quick on hook. super quick. blood vs double uni not much diff. both also will create a small little bulge. the time it takes to tie blood is quicker for me though so i use it.
