could you share with us on your product usage experience with the Austin Health Mate Junior and how much did you purchase it?...

as for my self, i've just bought a brand new unit ENVIRACAIRE TRUE HEPA AIR PURIFIER 50250 from E-bay costing about RM1250 inclusive of custom import duty tax which is far more less than the 50311 which retails around RM2,800 in M'sia..

have just started to use the 50250 and wow!, i would like say this 50250 baby can really churn out large amount of fresh air!. In comparison to my Sharp FU-W53EW, the 50250 is able to deliver higher volume of filtered air when both units are operating at their fullest speed. Of course, at that speed, the 50250 is slighlty louder then the FU-W53EW but you would not much difference when the TV is on.

i don't really notice the Plasmacluster feature found in the FU-W53EW made any impact to the indoor room air quality 'freshness' as claimed by the product as i was led earlier to believe that it could generate the same air attributes that you can find in the mountains / forest! What a let down...

with the no nonsense 50250, i could detect the air odour is much better, probably due to its better quality HEPA & carbon prefilter unlike for the FU-W53EW which smells a little bit like plastic...no joke blush.gif

overall, i'm very satisfied with my purchase of the 50250 and would recommend it to others whom is looking for a good quality air purifier...

alamdamai1,

http://www.amazon.com/Honeywell-Permanent-...47702679&sr=8-2

1) Why are you paying RM1,250 for something that cost USD $170 brand new in Amazon.com??

2) Aren't MEDICAL EQUIPMENT like air filter are tax and import duty free??

ahhh....good question....the 50250 actually only costs USD157 but as i need my purifier to be shipped with tracking facility & insurance coverage in the event it got lost, the 50250 which weighs 25lbs had to delivered with USPS Priority Shipping which costs about USD135...with the exchange rate of about 3.5, the total cost excluding tax would be RM1037....Custom Duty plus Pos M'sia Documentation Fees is at RM155 + 18 respectively....hence total cost would around RM1210 plus 40 for petrol & toll fees...

well, i did not really go indepth into the Customs Tariff whether an air purifier is a medical equipment or as a fan under Suruhanjaya Tenaga classification..nonetheless, comparing to paying RM3K for the old model 50311 in M'sia, it is really worth it... blush.gif

by the way, did i mention the 50250 HEPA filter is a permanent unit and do not to be replace apart for its carbon prefilter? that itself would pay off the initial investment cost over its lifetime usage.. rclxm9.gif

alamdamai1,

1) BTW, I have 2 units at my home.

2) Those 2 units are replacement for my previous 2 units (older model) that lasted about 10 years.

after reading some of the view by expert, i think the good one for air purifying and cleaner must be the Austin and Sharp Plasmacluster.
Honeywell is under the 3rd group and this gives some doubt for me.

But I wonder if the model in the review of the Top Air Cleaner for Sharp is the latest model?

hackwire,

Those review are done outside of Malaysia. Malaysia as in other tropical countries has very high humidity. And, we do not run our air conditioner 24/7. In western countries, they have low humidity and centralized air con that do not expose their house to outside air. Hence, all those air ionizer and plasma stuff DOES NOT WORK in Malaysian house. It only works in an air-con room with air-con running 24/7. This is basic high school physic. Humidity discharge ion aka electrical charges.

I had tried air ionizer in my car and it still does not work in Malaysia.

From what i have read, Sharp's Plasmacluster technology works by splitting water molecules in the air to produce hydroxyl ions so over time, humidity will decrease and the problem you mentioned will be solved.

Saladz,

1) Have you tried it out?? I had tried a few ionizers. It does not work in Malaysia. The one that you mentioned may or may not work in Malaysia.

2) Some people are allergic to ionized air. Ozone generated cause problem. Not sure whether the sharp product has that kind of problem.
