upon reading postings in this forum, i had also initially think of going for the Medklinn but when the AAQ sales rep told me that it releases ozone, i had second thoughts and went to purchase a Honeywell 40200 at RM498...

the sales rep told me that the earlier model of Medklinn had a gold colour top cover but after awhile, it faded which caused customers to complain about it...subsequently, the Medklinn people replace it with a black colour cover...

hmmm....anyone care to comment on this?

where can I find the Austin Air Cleaner ?
I was hoping to get a Sharp one but I read that Austin is one of the premium brands but I don't really see it being sold locally at places i regularly frequent.
Here's an old webpage that I found. though the models are mostly older ones, the information there is still useful:

Thank you very much alamdamai1 and nexro!

I bought one unit Austin healthmate + (small size) just now. It helps my baby sleeping a lot. The price is on promotion but still high. I have no choice but have to choose the best of the best, hopefully that will not made me disappointed.

BR,

could you share with us on your product usage experience with the Austin Health Mate Junior and how much did you purchase it?...

as for my self, i've just bought a brand new unit ENVIRACAIRE TRUE HEPA AIR PURIFIER 50250 from E-bay costing about RM1250 inclusive of custom import duty tax which is far more less than the 50311 which retails around RM2,800 in M'sia..

have just started to use the 50250 and wow!, i would like say this 50250 baby can really churn out large amount of fresh air!. In comparison to my Sharp FU-W53EW, the 50250 is able to deliver higher volume of filtered air when both units are operating at their fullest speed. Of course, at that speed, the 50250 is slighlty louder then the FU-W53EW but you would not much difference when the TV is on.

i don't really notice the Plasmacluster feature found in the FU-W53EW made any impact to the indoor room air quality 'freshness' as claimed by the product as i was led earlier to believe that it could generate the same air attributes that you can find in the mountains / forest! What a let down...

with the no nonsense 50250, i could detect the air odour is much better, probably due to its better quality HEPA & carbon prefilter unlike for the FU-W53EW which smells a little bit like plastic...no joke blush.gif

overall, i'm very satisfied with my purchase of the 50250 and would recommend it to others whom is looking for a good quality air purifier...

ahhh....good question....the 50250 actually only costs USD157 but as i need my purifier to be shipped with tracking facility & insurance coverage in the event it got lost, the 50250 which weighs 25lbs had to delivered with USPS Priority Shipping which costs about USD135...with the exchange rate of about 3.5, the total cost excluding tax would be RM1037....Custom Duty plus Pos M'sia Documentation Fees is at RM155 + 18 respectively....hence total cost would around RM1210 plus 40 for petrol & toll fees...

well, i did not really go indepth into the Customs Tariff whether an air purifier is a medical equipment or as a fan under Suruhanjaya Tenaga classification..nonetheless, comparing to paying RM3K for the old model 50311 in M'sia, it is really worth it... blush.gif

by the way, did i mention the 50250 HEPA filter is a permanent unit and do not to be replace apart for its carbon prefilter? that itself would pay off the initial investment cost over its lifetime usage.. rclxm9.gif

the 16200 is very suitable for small room applications of about 110sqft with 6 air change while the 50250 is specified for 375sqft with same amount of air change...

yes, i've bought the Honeywell 40200 from Jusco Balakong AAQ outlet which is specified for a room size of 210sqft..

i did not purchase the Honeywell 16200 as its specified air change rate does not meet my requirements...

for the 40200, i would say it is much more quieter at full speed even though it is rated at 57dB compared to a stand fan which is very much more louder...

in fact, the 50250 at lowest speed is much more louder than the 40200 when in full speed...

of course, you can always anytime try out the 40200 at AAQ outlets and hear it youself on the loudness of the unit...

happy scouting...

it all very depends on your requirements - budget & performance wise...

if pocket is bit restricted, then go for value for money...

but end of the day, always go for air purifier that has a CADR rating...the higher the better...

i've got the Sharp FU-W53EW with no CADR rating and comparing side by side with my Honeywell 50250, the former only scores in having a highly sensitive dust sensor which is not a necessity...

your can read a brief product review in my earlier posting #51...

i agree with the statement that all those plasma generator do not effectively trapped or remove micro particles, ie. PM < 10, from the air...as long as you have a HEPA filte, it would do fine....

for the tax issue, don't worry, as it wouldn't cost you much...check my post #716 in the below thread...

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/433543/+700

in regard to the noise issue for Honeywell 50XXX model, it would be very noisy if you put in a small air-conditioned space..as for me, i'm using it for a large size area with natural ventilation only, aka fans...its sound level is just as high as the fan sound...

all air purifiers are essentially a fan appliance where their power consumptions are similar to a table, ceiling or stand fan wattage rating, ie. ranging from 40W to 80W to 120W depending on your model....
