Hello, I'm a beginner in photography and I'm looking for a decent point shoot camera for travelling purpose/ family shots and decent night scene.

My current camera is an Olympus Stylus 500 which was bought years ago so I'm looking for an update.

My budget is <RM1000 + - or so. Please advice on models I should look for or where I should even begin looking.

Canon Powershot S110, one of the best and best valued compact PNS cameras, you can find them now for less than RM1000.

Canon Powershot S110 or S100, small and good. Lumix LX5 and Olympus XZ-1 are ok too, but not very pocketable.

A3000 is actually a mirrorless that looks like an SLR. I don't have one, but some reviews on the www, mentions it isn't quite matched up to a real SLR. It's not that solid and there aren't enough buttons/controls on the body. Fiddling with the menu to change settings can be a pain, and the delay cause you to miss shots.

OTOH, Canon's EOS1100D is RM1084 and Nikon D3100 is RM1284 on lazada.

I'm wondering if those would be good for a small passport studio. I do know why they usually use cheap RM400-500 point and shoot cameras. I've see the conditions these cameras get in after just 3 months, due the the cheap plastic door being opened and closed 100 times a day to swap out the SD card.

Thank you. I've heard of these however I doubt it would be practical to lug a dslr on my trip as I'm looking for something more pocketable. laugh.gif It looks a little...chunky

Is the difference between S100, S110 and S120 that big of a difference or would it be something that I could live without?

*edit* oh sorry i thought you meant are the price difference very big lol. well, I've never tried these 2 cams personally, only had an S95 some time back but I really loved it! Based on the specs, I think S110 and S120 not that big of a diff but still, newer processor is bound to be better tongue.gif. like the words of Barney Stinson, New Is Always Better

Only 2 cameras in the world has built-in feature to produce timelapse video of our milkyway galaxy as easy as pressing a record button and that's a huge difference.
