Like I said, if TS is really a LFC fan/supporter, then I'm ok with it.

But I've never seen him in the thread and also the heading screams desperation without basis.

Para was TS when I first posted in LYN.

The boss talks about large contracts offered to young players.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/new...ed-boss-2940189?

QUOTE
Like Flanagan, Sterling has fought his way back into the first team picture, in part because the manager has stressed the need to structure deals to reflect achievement, not potential.

Rodgers said as much when he agreed an incentive-based contract with Sterling last year.

"I have seen it so much with young players. You see these young boys play one or two games, they get handed these incredible contracts and it goes downhill from there," he explained.

"When they reach 22 or 23 years of age, you hear people ask, 'What has happened to so and so?' The biggest thing that distorts the reality of footballers is money. If we are going to help young footballers, you have to protect them and not give them big contracts.

"You are seeing young players who are multi-millionaires and, no matter what you say, it takes the edge off them."
Could not agree more. Incentive based contracts are the way to go with young players.

yup but if we dont offer better contract then other team will come to poach our player. Just like sterling last time.. In the end, the player himself should change their attitude
*
Which is why he's saying that the entire system is flawed as clubs are throwing large amounts of money at young players and ultimately, a large proportion of them have disappeared into obscurity because they stop trying. It is why he's suggesting that contracts should be incentive based to young players have to continue to improve and perform. He isn't suggesting that we are the only club who should do this.

That was formerly my avatar. I've since added a Justice torch to mine smile.gif

Jonno has since got a Liverbird tattoo as well. Fella is married and busy with his newborn. Seldom see him in person anymore.

With the quality we have at the back I suspect Rodgers might give Agger or Toure a start.

Our head-to-head against Cardiff isn't all that impressive but of course a lot has changed in the last 54 years.

Suarez turned down the opportunity to play for earth because he's committed to Liverpool. Nuff said.

Fantastic news with Suarez putting pen to paper. Even if he does force a move, clubs will have to pay over the top for him. Credit to Rodgers and FSG. They handled the whole situation perfectly. They refused to budge when the forward wanted out and when Arsenal made an offer. Rodgers showed him who's boss by having him train alone clearly sending a message that no player is bigger than the club. He has since led the team into a Champions League contention which is an amazing feat considering the state we were in just last season, amidst more illustrious managers. Rodgers has always had my backing and I'm hoping he'll be the one to deliver the holy grail, cementing himself in Liverpool folklore. Credit also to the fans for sticking by Luis.

Cardiff City are in disarray at the moment and I feel for McKay although I'm not surprised with his treatment. The Tan's have a blemished reputation when it comes to the way they treat their staff and business partners. He isn't doing much to win the fans over, least of all with his fashion sense. If we play to our ability, we can expect a convincing victory but I don't want to jinx it. Could be one of those matches where we pepper their goal but contrive to hit the post 30 times and they score with their only opportunity of the game. This however seems unlikely especially given the buoyant mood amongst the players and supporters with Suarez committing his short term future to the club. The contrasting atmospheres at both clubs couldn't be more stark. The players however may be fired up to give McKay a stay of execution. Having said that I don't think they have the quality but you never know. Hit then hard and hit them fast.

Not in the same way a Japanese or Chinese player will. China has the largest population on the planet. I imagine it's why Man Utd signed Dong Fanzhou back then. How influential is China? Well if you look to the NBA, Yao Ming was voted as starting centre for the Western Conference All-Stars despite having an average 1st season with the Rockets. This, despite there being more established centres like Shaquille O'Neal. Japan has a 40 million more people than Egypt and higher spending power.

Suarez is unstoppable. What a way to celebrate a new contract. Credit also to Henderson for his 2 assists. The lad has been a revelation since Stevie got crocked.

Martin Skrtel should change his name to Shrtel. We all know he has the nasty habit of grabbing the jerseys of opposing players and I felt Cardiff should have been awarded a penalty.

We hit the post 3 times today which is a shame. Wonder if McKay gets the axe

Martin Shirtel does need to learn to keep his hands to himself. Referees are going to catch on.

Anyone realised we played against Noone yesterday? No-one

City have won all their 8 home games so far. They haven't dropped a point in those 8 games they've scored 35 goals! That's an average of more than 4 goals per game. They have conceded only 5 times. To say it's a tough ask is an understatement. The boys will do well to walk away with an draw but a clean sheet looks impossible.

Man City has obliterated everyone at the Ettihad. We'll do well to come away with a draw. I won't be too upset if we do lose by a slim margin either to maintain our healthy goal difference. Let's come back down to earth for awhile boys.

Well if we won't finish in the top 4, it won't be for the want of trying.

My personal expectation at the start of the season was for us to finish in the top 6 especially if you consider that sides like Spurs and Everton are also going strong and let's not even mention the obvious contenders in City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Man Utd who have been dominating the top 4 spots of late. Finishing ahead of any of those sides is a massive achievement given where we finished last season. Brendan has done an admirable job so far this season despite a couple of hiccups.

Gutted. Sterling was miles onside and it was a poor decision from the linesman. We could have been 2 up. Also, he missed and absolute sitter. Joe Hart was MOM which says a lot. No shame in thus defeat. We tried to match City pound for pound and went down fighting to a team that averages more than 4 ggoals a game against visiting teams.

As said before, if want to beat top team, clean sheet is always one of important pre-requisite.

This is a given. Keep a clean sheet against any side and you will at least come away with a point.

We were up against it though. City have already blasted Man Utd and Arsenal off the park and has scored way more goals than anyone else. Gutted we didn't pick up a point but im Proud of the fighting display put in by Brendan and the boys. It's a statement that we fear no one and that is important for confidence and team morale.

Vincent Kompany exclaimed that this was their toughest home match of the season and that is some compliment.

Next up, the bridge.

On the issue of squad depth it is still only in midfield that we are a little light. The bench would look a whole lot different had Flanagan, Sturridge, Gerrard and Enrique returned from injury. Also, many were chuffed when we signed Moses and had this been the start of the season, there would be less comments on squad depth. In highlight of course, some of the new acquisitions haven't been delivering.
