Nokia the Finnish Mobile manufacture that pulled out of Japan years ago is back in the Smartphone ecosystem. This time Nokia release Lumi 1520 that was out globally on November 22nd, 2013 is now in stock at our Expansys Hong Kong warehouse. Nokia Lumia 1520 is actually a phablet in size and one of few Windows 8(phone) devices for smartphones currently available

user posted image

The Nokia 1520 display is around 15.5 cm (height) x 8.53 cm (width) x 0.86 cm(thickness) screen allows it to display bigger font size Windows interface.

Nokia Lumia 1520 has Windows 8 (phone) installed, and on of the great things about using a Windows OS rather than an Android or i0S is that the windows design is very simple. It uses f Flat design which is the latest User Experience design trend used by mobile websites. The app icons are very big and all functions are available all on the front screen, so its not necessary to skim through the interface to get what you want like the android OS, that means quicker access to phone functions.

If you compare the actual size of this monster of a phone its slightly smaller than the Sony Xperia Z ultra, and much smaller than the Apple iPad Mini.
user posted image

The phablet size I believe suits business people very much, and I think this was the main target users for Nokia.

user posted image

Features of Nokia 1520
Some of the greatest features of using Nokia Lumia 1520 is not just the massive size but the Windows Mobile interface and windows apps that comes built in.

Skydrive Office 365 by Microsoft
One of key features is the Skydrive access for Office 365 by Microsoft , the cloud based office version best suiting portable users.

user posted image
What I would normally do is create a word document on the cloud using my hotmail account from the Desktop PC and then on the way home or in the train commuting to work I find the Nokia Lumia 1520 to be suitable for viewing or reading the document rather than creating from scratch. As it is still a phablet device, its much more convenient to edit changes to your documents or presentation while on business trips.

20mega pixel Camera

Camera features include video recording, auto focus, digital zoom, flash (Dual LED), contact pictures, secondary camera 1.2 megapixels.
user posted image

We tried to test the Nokia Lumia 1520 camera compared to iPad mini retina and Sony Xperia and you can see the difference with the 3 photos taken
user posted image

With a 20 Mega pixel lens its actually amazing the difference you get. And Windows phone (8) app for camera allows you to quickly organize your photos.

So what makes Nokia Lumia 1520 special? Size, Camera ability, Windows 8 and Office 365 making it a phone much suited for business people.

The only reason I'd buy a Nokia = Camera

Otherwise, hmmm...

Windows phone OS still lacks the basic customization (like wallpaper)

Windows 8 UI doesn't need fancy wallpapers on the back of live tiles in my opinion, it simply defeats the UI language which want to stay simple.

The only way of changing wallpaper would be the lockscreen.

customization allows users to choose how they want to operate the OS (or how the OS looks) which should be made default on all OS.

if windows for PC can do it, why wont it be implemented on the phone OS?

Those who prefer tiles ONLY, can opt for a black wallpaper (no wallpaper).

I think we have to define the level of "customization" here. It can be the lockscreen, the background of the live tiiles or even the wallpaper for the desktop mode.

The team behind WP has been kept shut and remain silent on their progress, surely there must be some implementation in the future. (See WP: User Voice)

This in itself is evident of the lack of customization options on the WinOS

I have used the Win7.5 and I must admit it is fluid as f***. But I got bored after a while.

i cant agree more. i like WP8 because of the simplicity. its already fancy enough having the tiles.

exactly. having a top notch camera inside ur smartphone makes u think less about its shortcomings, i.e the ecosystem, the OS functionality, etc. that's what happened when i chose the lumia 920.

everybody knows the biggest flaw wp has all these years is the lack of apps. but worry not, the app gap is going to end by 2015. so, 2014 is gonna be a big year for wp.

by apps, hopefully that game u mentioned will also be coming wp.

I thought there's something nice to read, but really just something that we already know first hand.

Besides, since you included iPad Mini, there's now a bunch of 8'' Windows tablet running on real Windows, giving full x86 experience.

I switched from Sony Xperia Z Ultra to Nokia Lumia 1520 simply because it is slightly smaller (but thicker) than Z Ultra, support 64GB microSD, 32GB storage and of course because of the 20MP Pureview camera.

While I'm not that happy with the app selection, I'm okay with using the Lumia 1520 because I have access to most of the apps I'm using on Android and Apple (Aviary, Spotify, TriptIt, WhatsApp).

I also find the screen on Lumia 1520 is much better than Xperia Z Ultra as playback of low-res video looks more pleasant and smoother on Lumia 1520.

After using the Lumia 1520 for two weeks, I feel that Sony could have made the Xperia Z Ultra better.

And yes, I like big screen phones. But I think 6.44" is a bit too much. Now I just hope Nokia would be able to make a thinner 6" phone.

I think you guys misunderstood what he said.

Waze do not need always on data to work. If you can search and then navigate to your destination while you still had internet connection through wifi, it can route you till the destination even if you stop all data transfer. Only thing you probably miss is the live traffic update.

COC rclxms.gif rclxms.gif rclxms.gif same thoughts, but after a month (3 weeks actually) wif my 925, sold at last and turning bek to nexus series again, i have to admit i'm nt that kind of patient ppl that can wait, seriously missing my 925 but the lack of certain apps and games really pissed me off

might consider this phablet in the future tongue.gif

Apps to get mature, you have to define the level of mature and then you can also argue about the maturity of the app on other platforms as well.

"Half-bake" is what you probably want to use. laugh.gif

I have 920. How much can sell this phone and topup some cash and get the 1520.

I like my 920 a lot but one thing bother me. Battery life. I need a phone at least can surf for 10 hours and 1520 can do more from that. 920 if keep surfing on off from 8am to 12pm already 30% left (3G not wifi).

Additional :

How much can sell bundle with casing.

1. lumia 920 red
2. Incipio dual pro casing
3. Otterbox commuter
4. Nilkin flip

Hi there.

Lumia 920 is a great phone. Agreed with you. Battery life is sux and even with wifi on and moderate usage, it can last until 3pm only. The price has been decreased. Last time i bought RM1299. Now seven mobile sells RM969 with free wireless charger.

In Garage sales, normally 2weeks - 1 month old lumia 920 sold at 800-850.

You can try smile.gif

I'm using this phablet for now. But, I am having this kind of issue which is really annoying.. SIM CARD error/missing (few times already which required frequent restart for now.. sad.gif ). What the.. If this issue can be solved, then I think this phablet is awesome enough..

I was facing a similar issue on my Sony phone, bought a Lumia 1320 and same issue...I think went to Maxis to get a new sim and it has worked flawlessly since.

I replaced my current 'cut' Micro SIM card with truly Nano SIM card already but still same problem occurred. I already chat with Nokia representative and he asked me to send to Nokia Care Centre. Now I'm still waiting to have my phone back which they claimed soonest is after Chinese New Year. Haiya.. shakehead.gif

I converted from the iPhone 5s. So there are too many apps/games that I miss a lot! Pulse News, CIMB Clicks, Infinity Blades, Pocket, especially games which Windows Phone still lacking them. Anyway I think they can cope faster than ever compare to the beginning.. rclxms.gif

hehehehe.. alright. I will share with u some of my experience. First of all, it's a huge difference in term of screen size (of coz UI experience is different). That's my only problem with iPhone 5S, screen size. If Apple make it larger a bit (like 4.7"-5.0") then it will be a perfect phone for me. Speed wise, can be said that both of them fast enough. There are hiccup times too but not so often, very minimum. Apps+games? Yeah, iPhone 5S or iOS offer u with an absolutely wide array of choices compare to Windows Phone 8. Do I really miss most of them? Yes, of course. Do I really use all of them with iPhone 5S? Nope, only 20% of all apps+games that I oftenly use. So, I don't think with another advantages like camera, (20MP vs 8MP), awesome battery life (once a day for iPhone 5S that I need to charge while 1520 only once for 2 days) and also MicroSD supported (I am using 64GB class 10 with no problem at all) will make me regret having it.

Yes, I lose many thing but at the same time I think WP will survive and I am not surprise if one day it will overpass iOS. Lumia 1520 is a huge smartphone, phablet category.. I used Lumia 800 before and I'm comin' back with WP again!

p/s: Lumia 1520 win for smartphone champions league battle at GSM Arena.

Yes, I am Malay.. nod.gif absolutely..
Actually, if you do read review with experts, majority of them changing platform already. iOS losing market faster than before. You can guess exactly what will they release next by rumors here and there.
I used many phone/smartphone/phablet already. These three major mobile OS's (Android, iOS and WP) will keep on survive if they follow what does consumers want. Unfortunately for Apple then. If they are still being stubborn on next iPhone release (maybe iPhone 6), maybe millionaire's son/daughter will only get them. Someone have to slap Apple's product engineers!!
