Nokia the Finnish Mobile manufacture that pulled out of Japan years ago is back in the Smartphone ecosystem. This time Nokia release Lumi 1520 that was out globally on November 22nd, 2013 is now in stock at our Expansys Hong Kong warehouse. Nokia Lumia 1520 is actually a phablet in size and one of few Windows 8(phone) devices for smartphones currently available

The Nokia 1520 display is around 15.5 cm (height) x 8.53 cm (width) x 0.86 cm(thickness) screen allows it to display bigger font size Windows interface.

Nokia Lumia 1520 has Windows 8 (phone) installed, and on of the great things about using a Windows OS rather than an Android or i0S is that the windows design is very simple. It uses f Flat design which is the latest User Experience design trend used by mobile websites. The app icons are very big and all functions are available all on the front screen, so its not necessary to skim through the interface to get what you want like the android OS, that means quicker access to phone functions.

If you compare the actual size of this monster of a phone its slightly smaller than the Sony Xperia Z ultra, and much smaller than the Apple iPad Mini.

The phablet size I believe suits business people very much, and I think this was the main target users for Nokia.

Features of Nokia 1520
Some of the greatest features of using Nokia Lumia 1520 is not just the massive size but the Windows Mobile interface and windows apps that comes built in.

Skydrive Office 365 by Microsoft
One of key features is the Skydrive access for Office 365 by Microsoft , the cloud based office version best suiting portable users.

What I would normally do is create a word document on the cloud using my hotmail account from the Desktop PC and then on the way home or in the train commuting to work I find the Nokia Lumia 1520 to be suitable for viewing or reading the document rather than creating from scratch. As it is still a phablet device, its much more convenient to edit changes to your documents or presentation while on business trips.

20mega pixel Camera

Camera features include video recording, auto focus, digital zoom, flash (Dual LED), contact pictures, secondary camera 1.2 megapixels.

We tried to test the Nokia Lumia 1520 camera compared to iPad mini retina and Sony Xperia and you can see the difference with the 3 photos taken
user posted image

With a 20 Mega pixel lens its actually amazing the difference you get. And Windows phone (8) app for camera allows you to quickly organize your photos.

So what makes Nokia Lumia 1520 special? Size, Camera ability, Windows 8 and Office 365 making it a phone much suited for business people.

The only reason I'd buy a Nokia = Camera

Otherwise, hmmm...

Windows phone OS still lacks the basic customization (like wallpaper)

Windows 8 UI doesn't need fancy wallpapers on the back of live tiles in my opinion, it simply defeats the UI language which want to stay simple.

The only way of changing wallpaper would be the lockscreen.

customization allows users to choose how they want to operate the OS (or how the OS looks) which should be made default on all OS.

if windows for PC can do it, why wont it be implemented on the phone OS?

Those who prefer tiles ONLY, can opt for a black wallpaper (no wallpaper).

I think we have to define the level of "customization" here. It can be the lockscreen, the background of the live tiiles or even the wallpaper for the desktop mode.

The team behind WP has been kept shut and remain silent on their progress, surely there must be some implementation in the future. (See WP: User Voice)

This in itself is evident of the lack of customization options on the WinOS

I have used the Win7.5 and I must admit it is fluid as f***. But I got bored after a while.

exactly. having a top notch camera inside ur smartphone makes u think less about its shortcomings, i.e the ecosystem, the OS functionality, etc. that's what happened when i chose the lumia 920.

everybody knows the biggest flaw wp has all these years is the lack of apps. but worry not, the app gap is going to end by 2015. so, 2014 is gonna be a big year for wp.

by apps, hopefully that game u mentioned will also be coming wp.

I thought there's something nice to read, but really just something that we already know first hand.

Besides, since you included iPad Mini, there's now a bunch of 8'' Windows tablet running on real Windows, giving full x86 experience.

I switched from Sony Xperia Z Ultra to Nokia Lumia 1520 simply because it is slightly smaller (but thicker) than Z Ultra, support 64GB microSD, 32GB storage and of course because of the 20MP Pureview camera.

While I'm not that happy with the app selection, I'm okay with using the Lumia 1520 because I have access to most of the apps I'm using on Android and Apple (Aviary, Spotify, TriptIt, WhatsApp).

I also find the screen on Lumia 1520 is much better than Xperia Z Ultra as playback of low-res video looks more pleasant and smoother on Lumia 1520.

After using the Lumia 1520 for two weeks, I feel that Sony could have made the Xperia Z Ultra better.

And yes, I like big screen phones. But I think 6.44" is a bit too much. Now I just hope Nokia would be able to make a thinner 6" phone.
