after watching spain lose in d round of 16 i had a bad feeling that my Shell internship interview next Monday wouldn't b a walk in a park....thus, is there anyone who has gone thru such a process...

could any kind soul give an account of a Shell internship interview? or perhaps any Shell interview? the type of questions asked? mistakes made on ur part? any gd tips (aside from the useful ones which are pinned) i'm sure it would serve as a great resource to those hoping to perform well for an interview by Malaysia's best company to work for...

so let's get d ball rolling...thx.. thumbup.gif

Which Shell is it? Shell IT International (Cyberjaya) or Shell Malaysia (Damansara) or Shell Global Solutions (KLCC) or Shell Shared Services?

Their interview more focus on how fluently of ur spoken english and u have to be fast thinking as they will give u a topic title with some simple word such as "Milk", "National Park","Sport"....then ask u to tell story without giving u any time to think.
They wont ask anything about ur academic background.......nor u specific technical knowledge....They will just justify your communication skill and personality!!!
I had failed my interview with Shell for internship few months ago..that's the experience and conclusion from my interview...

well..js to update everyone who's actually keeping an eye on tis...i've survived d interview yesterday..bombarded by questions tat i hardly has time to react to..so here's d entire story...

at 6.30am i woke up n perpared myself...dressed myself in a long black sleeve shirt with black slacks, white socks n a pair of black leather shoes...took d 7.30am bus...reached pudu n took d taxi to damansara...we'll skip d details of tat hot lady at d frontdesk n skip right into d interview room...i was offerred a seat which i graciously took. she gave me a run down of d interview process which was supposedly to last 30mins only as there were primarily 2 questions. she stated tat there no technical aspects will be evaluated and tis attribute will only b analyzed if candidates were succcessful....

quesion 1 was about non-academic achievement n d killer question was "transportation"..a fren of mine got "national park"..she's a gd speaker n she failed...so i assume from my lacklustre performance tat i aint gonna do any better...i personally found d topic too broad...n my mind jus went dead..

my advice is...u hav a gd chance if ur an ex-debater...cos...it aint gonna b a walk in d park if u can react on d spot...

absolutely true smile.gif sorry to be giving you an input so late. They test on your critical thinking and creative thinking for the 2nd question. It's not very easy however, the lady will always try to help you by giving u hints. Just one advice, get loads of sleep before the interview wink.gif i slept for 3hours the night before and the next morning i was a dead zombie attending the interview...

This comes to show how important sleep is. They really want to test how broad is your general knowledge, it would be best that you constantly read up on issues in relation to the industry you are applying for.

In terms of Oil and Gas, there are plenty of topics that could cover so there is no definite answer for each type of question.

But in regards to transportation, couldn't you rant on how bad our transportation system is here in Malaysia?

well...for ur info...she asked for a global interpreatation of transportation...so it's not limited to msia...nor is it land transport for that matter...it could encompass any for of transportation...or d very system...or js d terminology n idealogy behind it...u don reli hav time to think...either ur very well versed in d area...or ur js like me..bull-crapping my way thru..hahaa...

Do we need to relate our story with oil & gas since it is Shell?

actually...no...but there's no harm in doin so..sa fren of mine who applied got a question on "national park"..so it would b unfair for her if relating to d oil n gas industry was earn xtra points as it's evidently easier relating tis industry with "transportation"..

anywayz..the interviewer did mention tat d main objective of d interview is to c how u think...how u react in a short time...d way u present ur argument...n d orderly manner in which u deliver it...

bottomline...communication skills n a witty mind is imperative to meet d standard set...

Well if you do read up a lot, transportation is a key element in a developing nation as well as other areas which boosts economy.

Transportation also plays important roles in areas such as public services, and improves the economy. By improving the economy, transportation plays an important role in businesses supply chains.

In terms of the future, how would the transportation industry look like with newer and upcoming fuel sources? Biodiesel? Fuel Cell? Hybrid cars? Sugarcane fueled? Solar? There are so many areas to talk about.

its not about being a good debater or not, the trick is they want to see the confidence in you and how firm are you with your answer.

The way Shell carries their interview is pretty structured. What i would do is give a straight answer and be done with it
