I'm afraid stock rom dont have such feature but wireless charging got sound if not mistaken, correct me if I'm wrong.

if I remember correctly, yes that's no tone when plug in for stock rom, and also my current custom rom also the same. and yes, wireless charging got sound by default. waiting for my nexus wireless charging pad delivery  . there is a xposed mod to disable/enable that wireless charging tone too if don't like.

Q: Is the official wireless charger pad from Google worth buying? or is it better to purchase 3rd party wireless charger?
IIRC, no tone/sound for stock rom, most custom ROMs have this feature though.
Yes, wireless got sound

I use wireless charging, got sound by default. Then I downloaded this app call DU battery, now everytime I charging or charging is completed it will give a louder sound. Easier to know once charging is done. You can try it out.

Finally done setup my Nexus 5, so sad stock launcher cant use custom icon pack
