I’m wonder how good is Yamaha a6a if compare with Yamaha A1080? I’m using a1080 now, is it worth to upgrade to a6a? Or the gap between these 2 are not so big? 🙏

Been using A6A for the last 9 months, bought it after it got the firmware to enable 4k 120hz.

There were plenty of drop out issues initially when I connected to my PC which has a RTX 3080. Turned out the issue was the ugreen HDMI cable. Changed it to RuiPro and it's been rock solid ever since.

PC games been running fine at 4k120 HDR and VRR enabled (played RE4 Remake on the PC few months ago, was amazing) as long as everything is set to fit within the 40gbps input limit the A6A has. This means no 12-bit color bit depth, max is only 10-bit @ 4:4:4 HDR. Not too big of an issue since my OLED is only a 10-bit panel anyways and 12-bit being downscaled doesn't really improve contouring issues that much either.

PS5 has no issues either, since the max HDMI 2.1 bandwidth from the PS5 is only 32gbps. PS5 forces games to be in 12-bit 4:2:2 HDR (or 8-bit 4:4:4 if you force enable PC mode on your display) so it's well within the bandwidth limitation of the A6A.

In terms of A6A vs 4800H, you gotta pick your poison. The main difference is really just DIRAC vs YPAO, and it's no secret that DIRAC is simply in another league vs YPAO. It simply is a much more sophisticated room EQ, much more advanced. That said it is extra cost as a DIRAC license has to be purchased on top of the receiver.
If you're a tinkerer who knows how to take your own measurements and have external tools (like a minidsp), then getting good bass from your subs and integrating the rest of your speakers is still possible due to YPAO allowing full customizability of the PEQ bands for each channel. I do however like the abilities of the 4800H being able to completely disable the internal amps when connecting an external amp. The 4 independent sub-out channels which allows grouping of zones is also very nice.

Considering the A6A and 4800H (the latter much more expensive if you add in the DIRAC license) is very similar prices these days, you just gotta choose which features from either receiver stands out to you more. I know some people here and across the internet will swear that receivers from different brands sound different to one another, but the reality is what makes them sounds different is the room EQ software they're equipped with.

If I remember correctly, you are moved from Yamaha 3080 to a6a, what do you find with the sound improvement? I’m using a1080 now, wonder how much improvement I can get if I move to a6a (plan to move from current 5.1.2 to 5.1.4)

Yeah I switched from A3080 to A6A.

Honestly the "sound improvement" is really from YPAO being much better in this new generation of Yamaha receivers. Biggest improvement is seen on how YPAO now does not EQ above 1khz in my room, which is a very nice thing to see as the most important frequencies to deal with is below the treble range. Next improvement I'd like to see is to allow users to set a custom curtain filter (like DIRAC, ARC, and even Audyssey) to stop EQ at a certain frequency (500hz for example).

While I don't use any EQ for the subs since I have my own minidsp for that, I can confirm that out of the box YPAO also does a lot better with sub EQ and integration than before. Still some ways off Audyssey and far from DIRAC and ARC, but it's a good improvement over the past versions of YPAO.

But my main reason to switch was for 4k120 and VRR on all 7 HDMI inputs, I have 4 sources that requires it and I also got a fairly nice deal on on the A6A at the time of purchase too (RM8.2k from Harvey Norman). So that was the driving factor to switch.

Yeah indeed.

That price was lower than any other shop I've asked at the time. Everywhere else was RM10k with RM100 TnG reload, so end up RM9.9k.

So far I’m managed to get around 8.8k with trade in of the a1080…which I don’t think really worth it sad.gif

You connect your PC (3080) to your A6A directly then only go to your OLED or PC (3080) to OLED then only use eARC back to you A6A? based on the feedback/review from Amazon customer, looks like there are still some ppl complaint that they cant get the signal properly even using the RuiPRO HDMI cable...

thanks again.

Try to check out Acoustic System in Amcorp Mall. High chance you get better price than anywhere else on Yamaha product. Go look for Mr Lim.
