Can I use back my 7 year old Pioneer home therter speakers (last time bought it around RM1700) and just buy a new AVR (maybe Yamaha RX-V379) with those speakers?
What do I need to look for in order to match the AVR with the old speakers?

QUOTE(dirtrun @ Mar 24 2016, 09:05 AM) Yes, But in most instances, speakers make the most aural differences in the chain.. N usually is de first to be upgraded.. But - truthfully , unless u are pretty fickle [n can tell the difference] n if you dont mind the sound of de ol spkrs, its gud to go.. There is some diff in sound from different brands but its negligible.. D Oh.. I am not a hard core fan of home theater, that is why I am ok to use back the old speakers. So I dont have to consider the power of my speakers to match the power of the AVR? Just buy the AVR and I am good to go?

QUOTE(ktek @ Mar 24 2016, 02:19 PM) a normal avr like yamaha rxv379 can run 5spk and active sub normal play is no problem. only when going loud require high watt my "chepo" pioneer have 5 setellite speakers and 1 sub... I wont be listening to music too loud until like clubbing type of loud. Sometimes when I am alone at home, I will just blast a little bit..

QUOTE(saitong09 @ Mar 27 2016, 10:05 AM) Oic, I believe your speaker with low power rating and also the subwoofer is passive type without input. Afraid the AVR not suitable for your old speaker. The satellite speakers is 100W wor.. Sub woofer I dunno, need to check..

QUOTE(ktek @ Mar 27 2016, 12:13 PM) can ask if ssjben wanna let go his kef q200c. much better audyssey can do if the difference is not big to begin with, like mine mixed front-center has eq compensation result less than 3.5db as i told, can use. dont over loud. need active sub QUOTE(saitong09 @ Mar 27 2016, 12:16 PM) I think most of the AVR can support from 4ohm to 8 ohm. The only AVR you can choose is Pioneer VSX-324-K entry level with Passive subwoofer output. If you want others AVR, you might need to purchase active subwoofer Thanks.. Active sub entry level is more than 1K?

QUOTE(teop @ Mar 30 2016, 12:45 PM) What I did before I got more serious was I bought an old Teac AVR for RM50 (really old) and drive my old Creative Inspire 5.1 5100 speakers or my Sony DAV-TZ140 speakers. Those speakers sounded great and completely different on the AVR. Unfortunately can't use those passive subs. But I did have a cheap China multimedia HIFI Stereo with large woofer built-in. You know those with tiny little useless stereo speaker and an extra large woofer mounted on the side of the main unit the size of a full tower CPU casing. I hooked up the sub output with a mono to stereo RCA cable and got it going. Thanks for your information!
