Last few pages of just conversation against recommendation by thread starter.

I'll try to break the trend.

TV Model : Samsung 60" (A few years old already - need to step it up to compete with all the sifu's here)
Amplifier : Marantz MM7025
Integrated Amp: Marantz NR1504
D/A Source: Marantz UD5004
Front Speaker : B&W DM 603 S3
Center Speaker : B&W LCR60 S3
Surround Speaker : N/A
Subwoofer : (2) Sunfire True Subwoofer MKII 2700W
Interconnect/Cable : All Audioquest Cables

Need to upload photos of the components.

A mix of 50/50 movies and 2-ch stereo music. Already thinking of how to revamp the entire system. Any suggestions? Last time I posted in this forum was in 2008 I believe.

The B&W's are incredible sounding speakers for the money. The midrange is sweet, crisp, non-fatiguing and beautiful. Some say they are bit heavy handed on the bass, but I disagree - if anything the ones I have are a little lacking, hence the need for two Sunfire's.

I saw some incredible systems here before - one girl, I remember, posted her complete McIntosh setup (back in '08). Wow!

Very nice and clean setup. Any reason why the subs are pointed sideways?
*
It looks to be that way, but because of the active and passive driver configuration, they are designed to be fired sideways. Sunfire actually recommends putting them diagonally (45 degrees) between a corner.

wow nice setup.. drool.gif
what price for this subwoofer  hmm.gif

About USD 1200 each when I purchased it in 1999! shocking.gif

I see. Interesting. You would probably get more kick from wall reflection if you place it the way they describe. But then will lose the clean look a bit.
*
Yes, exactly. Aesthetics is just as important to me. As you can see, there is empty space on both sides of my setup, so it would be hard to place next to a corner wall.

Sunfires not cheap..
Its got one of de principles of a good sub [ powerful amp or big driver/box ]..

Personally, I'd get de rythmiks over tis..

Yes, fairly expensive given the options. For me the absolute size was very important, so I needed something that could deliver a lot of power into the driver. At the time (1999) this was really the only option out there. At 2700w it was definitely the most powerful subwoofer of its size, and one of the most powerful in the consumer market. Velodyne had some really nice ones as well that I auditioned, but the Sunfire was the baddest of them all. I actually recently bought a Velodyne Minivee, but it did not have the power I needed, so it is sitting in storage waiting to be sold.

If you do not care too much about size, I've heard SVS makes some pretty decent subs. Too big for my taste.

any comment on the sub? easy to fine tune with all the other setup?
*
The crossover goes up to 120Hz, but there are pretty steep dropoffs that high up, I think it likes to work around the 40-60Hz range. The B&W's are rated lower than that, but in reality there seems to be a slight gap to where the sub wants to pick up and where the B&W's drop off. This is why I posted in the audiophile thread about redoing the setup. I am thinking of ditching the 603's and going to the 800 series range.

The British made speaker is really amazing. I am a big fan too in B&W owing CM8 for 2 years now
*
I am sure it is a fantastic speaker. These are my first set of B&W's and they are very good. But just after a few months I already want to swap them out. =/ I originally wanted the CM's, but I settled for the 600's. I think I may eventually have to go up to the 800's to be content.

Chin,

Those looks like really nice speakers.  Thanks for sharing.  If you have open house for auditioning, i would love to have a listen to them.
*
Thank you. I will let you know if I ever get around to doing that.

ChiNO,

So I take it size is the deciding factor?  Ie, a small footprint?  From my experience in AV, in order to get any 'real' output below 30hz, the bigger the better.    And multiples are better as well for bass smoothing.
*
Yes, size is very important. =) In this case, the more compact the better. Perhaps, sometime in the near future I can have a dedicated HT room with ample space, but at the moment, the current living room has double duty as the auditioning room, home theatre, and general entertainment.
