Hi all,

I am comparing the Altis and the Civic. Can anyone comment?

1. Which one has less wind noise when driving on the highway?

2. Which one has a more comfortable ride when driving at highway speeds?

3. Which one is more composed / more stable at around 150km/h? Can be stable until how many km/h?

4. Which one has a better throttle response in stop go traffic? Means like when step on the gas pedal, it moves instantly. No hesitation, no need to wait before it starts to move.

Thanks!

Bro I did answer all, but suggest you test drive 3 of it, go with your feeling, glenmarie for civic and mazda test drive as around the place suitable for test drive, toyota go for ss19 beside empire gallery ( cornering kaw kaw )

Thanks for the location advice too. That's a good idea. Was thinking of Setia Alam because they have a long stretch there.

Would like to ask current Altis owners, any issues with your CVT transmission so far? Or has it been running great all this while? What year is your car?

Thank you in advance.

I would like to get this car but quite a number of owners overseas have CVT issues after 2-3 years of ownership. I'm hoping Toyota's build QC is better in Malaysia.

I'm glad to know that your Altis doesn't have any issues. This gives me confidence. I really think Toyota Malaysia quality must be excellent.

A list of stuff I've found affecting Altis/Corolla CVTs in other countries since 2014:

Squeaking/ Squealing sounds, transmission slipping, strong jerk when accelerating (almost like hitting a bump), CVT solenoid failure, very rough shifting sensation, juddering, check engine light code p0607, speed stuck at 100 km/h and unable to go faster when trying to overtake, strong vibration between 30-100 km/h, when braking, ther car jerks forward at 20km/h, clunking sound when accelerating slowly, jerking when in reverse, metal grinding noise, and when stepping on accelerator, car only moves after 4-5s.

I have a 2010 Altis, which is the first year the Altis came with the CVT transmission. So nearly 7 years and 100K km now. No problems on the CVT and never come across other owners with CVT problem in this car.

That's really good news. I didn't know they introduced the CVT so early. I thought they only started in 2014.

Thank you for the info

Wow nice. Mind sharing why u opt for 1.8g instead of 2.0v? I'm actually interested on the 2.0v but the sa told me it's not worth taking 2.0v as the price range is almost similar to Camry 2.0e. Test drove the 1.8g yesterday in klang n the pick up was just ok. Further more he say I won't feel more 2.0v is more powerfully than 1.8g if im driving the car alone most of the time unless its full load.
Was looking at the civic turbo earlier but I dont  quite like it as it's too low for my seating position and I already have 1 civic 8 gen at home. Suspension on the civic is also too firm for my liking

Also the sa time me Toyota Service interval is every 5k unless I upgrade the lubricant oil to fully sync? Is that true? This is rather strange as most manufacturer now is 10k svc interval
*
Hmm, regular dinosaur engine oil should be 5k intervals. If semi synthetic, the oil change interval should be 10k.
I think that RM 139k for a 2.0V is is really overpriced. Even with discounts also it's still above RM 130k.
If want faster pickup, the Mazda 3 2.0 low spec is a really good deal at only RM 110k. But the rear seats are less spacious than the Altis

Another thing that tipped me over to Altis was that it doesnt have all those start stop tech which mazda has. Start stop tech requires high drain batteries. They cost rm500 and they dont last long. So you save a few ringgit in petrol but waste hundreds on the battery. This is madness. No way Mazda. I am buying Toyota until they introduce this crap to altis

Anyone changed their Altis battery?
Need reset ECU? Or anything need to be done after changing car battery?

I miss those old cars, which battery can last more than 3 years.  bye.gif

What kind of car batteries can last more than 3 years? My 2008 car battery at most last 1.5 years only

how many KM u guys can achieve with full tank?
mine only can reach around 320-350km remaining one bar petrol, is it normal?

What's your driving style like? Heavy footed or light footed? Also try different petrols and keeping a log of petrol consumption.

I seem to get worse results with Petronas, and pretty good results with Petron, BHP and Caltex
