Hi

Hyundai is offering 10k discount on Elantra 1.6HS (after discount, 88k or 91.8k for Sport version). Is this a good buy? Understand a FL is coming soon.

I am still undecided between an Elantra to Honda City V-spec. My budget is around 100k. I like Mazda3, but its off budget. Any idea when CKD version coming? Will there be a Mazda 1.5 ckd for our local market? I asked local bermaz salesman, but he looks clueless  rclxub.gif

Appreciate for you advise

TQ

Buy an Elantra because you can get it cheap and it is a value buy.
But don't expect good engine performance and good resale value later on.

100k can get you a Kizashi brows.gif

Hi! Zenix, it's me agn. I haven made up my mind yet.... Regarding ur previous suggestion about the Hyundai tiburon since it's a Korean car so many ppl criticize it as a 'kimchi' car... "soft and glass like" car, worse still Hyundai parts aren't easy to get from local workshop also. Does the maintenance cost a lot?  smile.gif
*
let me put it this way.

if you want something cheap to buy and cheap to maintain then look at the road.
which cars you see most common would be cheap to buy and maintain because that is how economics work.

something fancy, something cool, something rare.
will give you the x-factor, able to lansi to friends, and make girls wet.
but you also wet your eyes when the maintenance bill comes.

can't really have everything sad.gif

i think for you to get a good one you should look up the forums/facebook pages of camry owners clubs.
there u can find owners letting go their babies.
which imho better condition than used car dealers.

Hi, you are considering between Elantra vs honda city v spec but i am considering between K3 1.6 vs honday city v spec rclxms.gif rclxms.gif
Why you never consider K3 1.6? I heard alot of bad feedback on Elantra, that why I remove it from my wish list.
K3 is giving around 7-8k discount as of now, but i think can get more at nov-dec.

I'D rather go for Proton Persona SV, comfort and handling wise compared to axia. Of course the looks is nothing to shout about.

Unless if you top up abit, u can get the proton preve ancap version, again, comfort, looks and handling wise.

2006 Mitsubishi Lancer - this is a good car to buy at this price range but one issue you'll have with such a low budget is you're unable to buy cars that aren't going to be 10 years old within a few years. Although this Lancer is a good and reliable car by design, you really need to choose wisely when you're in the market for one that isn't a lemon or have been though any major accidents because even if you manage to find one which isn't a lemon and accident free if not maintained properly you'll find yourself with a car with a long repair list. Parts wise they're pretty cheap as there are many common components shared with Proton and availability isn't an issue, this is the closes thing to buying a Proton Waja/Persona but isn't one. All in all a good car but keep an eye out when buying one.

2007 Toyota Altis - one issue with Toyota's is there are too many variants for one model so unless you're informed you won't know if you're being sold an E-spec but the salesman says it is a G-spec (top range). That is about it for Toyota buying worries. Other than that if it is accident free it should be in good order as Toyota parts are quite reliable and don't breakdown easily even with abuse. This would be a good choice for you, and usually you can find cars about 1 year older within your budget than Lancers.

Nissan Latio - for this one you've got some choices within this price, the sedan's are usually cheaper in the used car market and also are the only ones with the bigger 1800cc engine, while the hatchback looks nicer they only have the 1600cc engine. You can even find 2008 models within your budget. This model is locally made for part prices are low and availability is everywhere no worries for maintenance.

sylphy would be a great choice.
actually if you can put its ugly looks aside it is the best value you can buy for a c-segement car.
good engine and gearbox, not much problems with this combination and saves fuel.
maintenance is relatively cheap and with nissan's being locally made parts isn't an issue.
you can get a pretty young one for the budget outlay-ed

2012 Nissan Sylphy - for about the same amount of money for the Inspira you get a Sylphy, top spec with Navi.

I wouldn't recommend you buying from someone in another state even if it is cheaper.
Better buy it locally. anything also easier to find back the owner.

For that price range you've got a few options.

1. Honda CRV - at this price you can get the base version, if you're not all that hung up about pickup and power this is fine since among the lot this is the model which would have the lowest depreciation. It looks good and maintenance is relatively cheap for its range.
2. Kia Sportage - for a price cheaper than the CRV you can get something which is fully loaded with accessories, but the problem with Kia is always depreciation and engine power, although on paper it looks to be quite powerful but in reality it doesn't really perform.
3. Ford Kuga - good looking design and good engine, no issue about power here with the ecoboost engine. However, the perennial issue with Ford's in Malaysia would still bug this model as you don't see many on the road thus sales is slow this would later relate to high depreciation and expensive parts. It feels quite small for the price range too.
4. Hyundai Tucson - same problems as the Sportage but this model is has been in the market for sometime, it should be getting a replacement/facelift soon, so if you're out for a bargain wait until they clear stock.
5. Mazda CX5 - a good one and the CKD is cheap, but parts for pricey.
6. Subaru XV - this is a surprising car as they've sold more than I would have imagined, it is a good car like the Kuga but depreciation and expensive parts will still hang over its head. But 5 years warranty and 3 years free service does help alot, although like the Kuga this SUV feels abit small.

I think you can see my review above for used car within 40k bracket would be either a Mitsubishi Lancer, Toyota Altis or Nissan Latio. All three commonality is widely available parts, good reliable parts which are cheap thus maintenance isn't very heavy. If you want something more exciting and powerful, you need to forgo cheap maintenance.
