Investing Rules = never try to time the market. NOBODY can outsmart the market. It's a warning for not try to time the market applies to the bond market as well as the stock market—it’s a loser’s game. rclxms.gif

It is a Normal "phenomena" environment, as year 2013 had a good run, with more than 52 record breakers
in a year..DJIA gained almost 30% .. IMHO, 7-12% correction will be usual healthy mode but it won't happen
as 1) FED continue keep interest rates new ZERO, 2) expected good results release of economic data
(new home sales + consumer confidence) and 3) earning reports from AAPL, Google, FB, AT&T,
3M,CaterPillar,Pfizer ..etc next week.BUT, most importantly,4) last meeting that Uncle Ben going to chair with
non-promising / sluggish China economic data.

If you are a investor whom bought the stocks in year 2009-2012, your net worths have been
appreciated steady with yr base capital already returned thru dividends. Be patience, Wait for VIX > 25-28 pts and monitor closely with yr reserve cash ready to bargain some opportunity.
For investors like you, going to bed as usual, rclxms.gif and you no need to WAKE UP to see the trading.. Can sleep well?
Usually, get stocks at bargain price and continue your Holding Power/Test yr Patience.. thumbup.gif

Some of the high flyers can go down faster especially the overvalued stocks esp. the market has a very strong rally last year. Now, it is time to give some back.

On Jan 17th, I've mentioned I would like to see Dow see 15000 first before 18000, don't mean to scare anybody but that's actually healthy for the market. Just a 10% correction. But, sometimes, panic selling can roll in,.. and if
market sees no additional positive signs, don't be surprised it can roll down to 14500.. that would translate into 12-13% correction.. that's still ok.

Back in 2011, the market dipped in bear territory with 20%correction with the European crisis. Everything is fine again a couple of month later.

So, relax.. sell some calls while you wait and get some cash ready to buy more later. biggrin.gif

Year 2013 = DJIA up almost 30% .. So far, correction Year to Date = ( - 4.21% )
But, US Dollar at 4 years high against MYR at 3.345 drool.gif , as USA economy is getting better with more
tapering in QE.. HK Stocks got whacked !! but P/E and financial ratios = still unattractive / overvalue .. ohmy.gif
Perhaps, is P/E ratio below industry average PE is called as 'Intrinsic Value' ?

Hey guys, I've a trading acct with TD Ameritrade. For dividends, it seems like there's a withholding of 30%. As my income tax bracket is below this, is there any way I can get back some of the taxed amount?

Yes, if you've filed W8BEN, just file 1040NR form by April 15th to get some refund.

LHDN? No-lah, you are not collecting refund from Malaysia govt! This is USA.

US IRS (Uncle Sam Tax collector). Where else?
Google their site, you'll find it.

TDA ameritrade should send you a statement by March 1 (1099-DIV) which tells you exactly how much you were withhold. Use this to file 1040NR with Uncle Sam.

Yes.. unfortunately. Let see if it will go down more tomorrow or not. AH drops to exactly the level that the option market was pricing it... if beat, it will go abive 560, it missed, it will be below 520.

So much for the best quarter for AAPL. This is actually a major disappointment for AAPL bulls.

If you're not in hurry, it is cheaper to send them a bank draft/cheque (or cashier's cheque) drawn in USD.
Just mail to them via regular Pos. Takes 2-3 weeks to clear but it works.

It seems that by sending (snail mail) bank draft/demand draft in USD to TDA, one can avoid not only the cable charges (usually around rm25) but also the intermediary bank charges? (usually around USD25). Is this correct? Thanks.

What's the cost to issue a bank draft/demand draft from a Malaysian bank?

I did TT in the end to TDA, arrived in less than 24 hours smile.gif

A number of banks are charging around rm5 or none at all if amount is > rm5000 for foreign demand drafts.. They are making the money from the exchange rate. Today the sell rate from BNM is around 3.34 while banks sell rate is 3.38.
TT while being a bit more expensive (esp the intermediary bank charges) is obviously a lot faster.
