hi propernormal, you once told me one needs to do a lot of extra studies if doing p2 under spencer. but would he actually provide those extra stuffs or we need to search for them ourselves? thanks!

Hi There,

Just saw ur message. My own experience here:

I attended Spencer's class last June 2012 (passed the paper at first attempt at 65 marks) and he only covered some major standards but did not cover the whole syllabus in P2. He did some questions in the class but many of the questions in his notes do not have answers.

His notes - some of them are in mind maps.In his revision class - he gave more mindmaps.

I had difficulty understanding P2 when i was in his class.

So to make up for it, i studied the BPP text book diligently from front cover to the back cover - did not even miss the small topics like all the ED , his notes and did all questions in the BPP revision kit.

I made sure that i did not miss out studying everything mentioned under the Examinable Documents - i refered to the list in the BPP revision kit.

I also bought P2 mindmaps at http://www.mapitaccountancy.com just to increase my understanding of the standards.

I also bought P2 BPP ipass cd http://www.bpp.com/lm-product-details/lmproddetails/3735 and did all the objective questions.

Sometimes i refered to these sites too http://www.iasplus.com/en/standards

In the last 2 weeks before exam - i just concentrated revising again all the standards , ED and technical articles , proformas and notes using Spencer's and MapitAccountancy mindmaps!

One day before exam - i read the Exam Technique for P2 in the BPP revision kit that had the following headlines:

1.Do not be needlessly intimidated
2.Easy marks
3.Be ruthless in ignoring the complications
4.Be ruthless in allocating your time

I was ruthless in ignoring any minor complications that i found in the exam questions - meaning i did not omit doing the questions - i just carried on doing the questions with my best understanding of whatever the complications meant.

I was ruthless in allocating my time - meaning i answered all parts of the questions.

I showed all my workings neatly and answered what asked without wasting doing anything unneccessarily!

Whenever i felt intimidated when studying, revising and doing the questions of P2 - i just tell myself more than 10 times a day - "I can do it , i will pass P2" with full determination and conviction!!!

Forget to answer your specific query -> Spencer did not give any extra stuff.

Did you buy the lectures from Mapit? How were they? Worth buying?

Hi Doniz,
Personally,i found them that i could enhance my understanding of some standards and remember them easily although the mindmaps did not cover 100% of the syllabuss! So whether it is worth it or not depends on each individual's needs. For me, it was like an added supplement!

To Mayo,
i forgot to mention this ..... i learnt that Spencer's way of doing the workings to fill in the proformas were very easy as compared to BPP's as it was a bit confusing especially the Cash flow Statement part!

End of the day, what matters is:

when you find that you don't understand what is being taught in the class under a lecturer, go and find ways to understand ie

1.by going back to books
2.go to internet and find out websites to understand
3.if you can afford, buy some materials online to supplement your understanding,up to u!

Just dont rely on lecturers to provide everything to you except when you have lecturers who tell you directly to just concentrate on their notes only as they are sufficient enough for the exam like Ms.Sheila when i attended her P7 class. I studied only her notes and her questions and her answers...no BPP textbook or revision kit.

But, I have used the materials for P3 and P7 from these websites http://www.tonysurridge.co.uk/ACCA/Paper-P3 to supplement my understanding further on certain areas that i had difficulty in understanding. Back then it was just GBP3 only for a paper!

Thanks for the reply Propernormal!
Well I am planning to buy the P3 and even P1 lectures. I have no intention to buy P2 though!
I would be taking classes for P2 and P3, which would start next month. However, I am planning to self-study for P1!!!

Not to discourage you Doniz but i had one lecturer tell me long time ago that it's important to attend classes for all the P level papers as you need their expertise to understand the exam technique. I am an average student so i took that advise seriously after failing P3 by self study!
