Breaking news for students that have finished your SPM and want to study CAT for free!

Stop wasting time going to colleges, in fact you can start studying at form 4 itself

Just drop by ACCA-X, they have offered the first 4 papers of CAT for free.

Study the paper at home and sign up for a crash course with any provider to make sure you can do the exam.

It may cost you only 200 per paper.

Exam fee is the only thing you have to be worried about.

Well, those who want to study smart : http://www.acca-x.com/global/en.html

Hi everyone. Just a simple intro, I'm 18 and I figure out I want to pursue CAT ACCA although it's not my passion. I know it's hard but well nothing is easy right? Have anyone here study CAT in MCKL, Inti, KDU or HELP? Sunway is so expensive so it's out of the list. What about the lecturers and schedule? The fees too. Can I pursue Masters degree btw after I finish ACCA? Thank u! :-D
*
Go to ACCA-X, it is free for the first 7 papers. Save about RM 9,000 this way.

Study with UK lecturers and also the only thing you have to do after studying is take the exam in a certified location

Thanks for your reply. I am from ipoh and Acca tuition providers in ipoh are very limited. I can't go to Sunway ipoh because they are only offering full time classes and I am working. That's why I plan to self study.
*
Planning to self-study, best to get an online solution. You should be able to review the materials faster and it is almost the same as going to class.

Materials will last till you pass, so it is a worth while one off investment

Those going for exams this semester GOOD LUCK. May the force be with you.

Next semester, those planning to take September exams, you can attend the FULL TIME for P1 - P3 and EVENING for P4 or WEEKEND for P5 and P7 classes at J Pro Training

Those still studying P1 and P3 - there is a revision class still available for this on June 2,4,6 for P3 (8.30 - 5.30) and June 1,3,5,9 for P1 (8.30 - 5.30) at J Pro.

Am planning to self study and restart my exam taking for the Sept 2015 session. Thinking of taking either taking F7 or F9 ( the 2 I have left for my part 2), one on Sept and the other in Dec. TBH, I've been out of the exam scene for at least 4 years as I've been working, in Finance. Need help on a few things.

1) What textbooks should I use for self study?
2) In current context, will past year papers help?
3) Suggested books, how much will they cost and where can I get them?

Early thanks for any help given.
*
Actually you can buy the online learning package from J Pro Online Solutions, this cost about RM240 and provides the full lectures for the subjects that you are doing. They last till you pass the paper, this is one off and allows the usage of the materials until you pass.

All you have to do is to provide proof that you have yet to pass the paper once the 1 year period of purchase is over

For the papers that you are doing the past papers are relevant from Dec 2010. I suggest that you get the lecture materials and download the past papers.

When you are ready for the exam - sign up for the exam revision classes with any of the providers that are running the revisions for September 2015 exams.

I heard that P7 had the following

Audit risk
Matters to consider
Forensic & Scepticism
Ethics
Hot review and reporting

Hi, can I directly go to ACCA lvl2 without taking last 2 CAT papers? MQA does not recognise my FIA qualification only? or my ACCA qualification also not recognised by them even if I finish all the papers in ACCA? Tq.
*
Yes you can. It is not a problem. Given that CAT FA1 FA2 MA1 MA2 is going to be given free by ACCA-X. The only issue is that you cannot study at the colleges since they are forced by MQA to make sure all students have completed their FULL CAT. You can study online or use training providers who focus on ACCA training rather than college based lectures.

I'm only starting off with f1-f3 for now. Thinking of going to Taylors but im not financially stable on that.
I've checked out with lsbf. they reply very slow, and to think further ahead, their materials comes late.
But what i wanna know if these online distance learning is legit. I'm working currently, and I really want to start studying. My working time very flexible some more.
*
Online learning is legit, so you can use it to prepare for the exams. How you prepare for ACCA exams is a matter of personal choice - college, self-study, online learning, blended learning. Some actually walk into ACCA exams for fun rclxub.gif

1. Kasturi KL - Andrew Pang
2. FTMS - Arshad Adam
3. Elite Jaya - Laurence Kuek
4. Help CAT - Stephy Lim
5. Kolej Bandar - Ian Lim

Please help. Thanks!

I know all of them and would rank Arshad and Laurence as reliable bets.

For P7- Mr Goh(Sunway), Ms Sheila(Elite)

For P3- Mr parmindar(ksa), Michael/Laurance(elite), Mr Dinesh(Sunway)
*
Why not consider T.Seelan at Inti College Subang, Siva at Taylor, Jay at JPro for P7.

Sheila and Goh classes is full and cramped.

P3 you also have Peter at Taylor, Siva at UNITAR, Laurence at Inti Subang, Jay at JPro

Anyway the classes at most of this places will be starting in July to cater for the Dec 2015 exams.

JPro will be starting the classes in end of June for September 2015 exams and August for December 2015 exams

Mr Jay,

At JayPro, do you offer Revision Class for ACCA P5 for December 2015 sitting? When will the class starts? Any notes and questions if we sign up for Revision class only?

ACCA P5 passable? coz i heard P5 is difficult but i like the course contents.
*
There is a revision class for P5 at Nov but the number of space depends on availability since there is a cap of 24 students per class.

The classes for Dec 2015 exams will start in August 2015.

If you sign up for revision only, the class will already be in questions practice and review mode.

You get those class notes.

Hope that helps

Mr. Siva Nair is well known for this paper.

There is also Dr. Thamboo; Alan Yeo, Thenesh, Rozi and Ms. Yap

They all have experience teaching this paper and can provide adequate cover of the paper.

The paper is bulk by nature and you need someone who can point you in the right direction to get a score.

The examiner was a personal tax partner in PWC before and this sways her questioning to focus more on personal tax and F6 level computational ideas.

Haha yaa but its the safer way laa, both routes are same just abit delay, at least guaranteed a degree qualification if you decide not to continue ACCA ultimately  smile.gif  smile.gif
*
Actually the safer route is actually the ACCA route since you get multiple qualification and allows you to exit any time.

Imagine that you completed the degree and then found out you hated the job.

It is actually preferred if a student tries out the profession at certain points before full exit, like how the Germans train their people - Study - Practical - Study - Practical - Study - Practical - Employed with satisfaction and enjoy the work

The problem with many is that they want the high speed approach

Study - Study - Study - Practical - Hates the life and wants to change - Study - Study - Study - Practical

The ICEAW model actually ensures that people that like the profession stays and those the hate it leave it faster.

That is just my opinion.

QUOTE(SadSoul @ Sep 1 2015, 01:30 AM)
isnt ACCA more specialized where it's more relevant in the accounting field whereas with a degree you're more flexible?
*
Degree in Accounting is quite specialised since most of the students do not get other papers - they have audit 1,2 and sometime 3; then tax 1,2 and 3; MA 1,2 ad 3 and so on. Usually what ACCA studies in 1 paper - degree students do it with 3 to 4 papers.

Reason : Colleges have to make money! A college charges a student RM1,800 to RM3,000 per paper taken. If you can take a single paper and make it into 3 papers - you use less resources and earn more money. This is college education maths.

This is how private colleges make money - they make the students do as many papers as possible to get the maximum earning.

If ACCA Level 2 is a year 2 and year 3; this is a total of 6 papers.

A degree students will have to do say 12 to 18 papers to get through 1 year. They may end up having a lot of papers which is broken down to smaller parts (bite size).

I used to be involved in private college marketing - their goal is to get you in the route that yields the highest return to them usually - and students want the easiest route possible to pass.

This two ideas are in alignment.

ACCA is cheaper, faster but is harder - most people will not like that

Degree is expensive, slower but easier - most people like this.

Is degree flexible? Yes if the college allows you to have freedom in selecting electives and they have a host of electives. But having too many electives are usually dangerous - you may end up with too little students per class.

So the electives given is usually a similar component - marketing; business admin; HR - things that other courses are running.

Obviously there are some degree that makes the students do specific other subjects - mainly because the college does not have electives and that they are forced to take some electives.

I remember a MSc Accounting graduate from US that had minor in bowling - I am sure that is a skill that you will need to socialise but doing it as part of a degree just to get the credit is sometime counter-productive.

There are many such instances where a degree student may be forced to do some papers that they have no interest just because the college wants to cut cost.

Yes once you have done ACCA F7 then there is no option anymore to go back and untick it

So those that are planning to do your OBU, please make sure that you have checked your status before doing ACCA F7 to F9

On that note, good luck preparing for the Dec 2015 exams.

I will be running my revision classes for P1 (Nov 24,25,26) and P3 (Nov 27, 30 and Dec 1)

P2 revision will be starting from Nov 11 (Evening sessions)

Those that are keen can sms me directly 0178786074.

Those planning to do FIA or CAT course, I will be offering this from Dec 2015 onwards.

The price is RM400 per paper for FA1, FA2, MA1 and MA2

Price for FAB, FMA and FFA is RM650

There is no other charges in terms of notes, resources fee and other materials.

This is ideal for those that do not want to wait for their SPM results before starting their CAT.

You can jump directly to CAT final levels at Sunway or other colleges after that since you have completed most of the papers by June 2016

FA1 till FIA is completed

There is a short-cut there. The youngest ACCA Member is 18 years, which means he had completed ACCA when he was 15 years.

How is that even possible?

Well in UAE there is a guy that has the record for being the youngest ACCA Member and he probably did not waste time doing the course while waiting for the system.

I suppose he had to break the system to get out at that age.

OBU May 2016 Submission Mentoring with OBU Registered Mentor
RM2,200 for 1st class; 2,400 for 2nd upper; 2,600 for 2nd lower and 2,800 for 3rd class

Is this price fixed?  are there any hidden costs?
Could you please give me your training centre's full address?
How many meetings are there throughout the mentoring duration?
*
No hidden cost, no registration cost, but if you defer then there is a deferment cost after starting. The fee is lower for higher class award as a scholarship for those that have performed welled in their ACCA. The standard fee is RM2,800

You will have 4 official meetings with the mentor during this period, which MUST be done.

If you are doing topic 8 and 15 please only select airline, pharma / biotech / mobile telecomms. This is the latest ruling from OBU for this topics.

You can check out j-obu.blogspot.com for details.

It is a good idea to drop by the Open day at Kemuning Utama, Shah Alam for the open day which has the following events
for Dec 19 and 20.

10.00 - 5.00 Registration for classes for March 2016 Examination
10.30 - 11.00 Careers in Accountancy
11.30 - 12.00 "Oxford Brookes University BSc Applied Accounting
2 years after SPM for less than RM 40,000"
12.00 - 12.30 How to pass your ACCA first time
1.30 - 2.30 OBU BSc How to pass the RAP first time
3.00 - 3.30 How to select your specialisation for ACCA professional papers
4.00 - 5.00 Accelerate your Degree with Jpro Accelerate - prepare for ACCA exams in March and June and graduate your degree with ACCA together.

Guys pls help me....citypro or crescendo???actualy i dun prefer sunway..thank u☺😊☺
*
If you plan to study part-time, it is only in 2 colleges in JB (the 2 you had mentioned)

Some students like the style of teaching of some of the lecturers and recommend them.

Example - Mr.Yap is liked by many male students but not so by female students due to his way of delivering the lecture ( it may be 18SX content)

On the other hand Mr.Low is very detailed and may go through the whole item one by one, if you like that type of teaching

Going to a college will allow you to get the BRIM item, so it may be worth while to register with one college.

Since you are doing F4, F5 and F6, I can suggest that you can select any one there is no big issue.

Look at ease of access from your work to the college rather than take both since then you will have to deal with clashing timetables.

Pick the one that gives the best offer in terms of fee

Careful since some may split the revision class and charge separately.

At Sunway JB, there is no part-time except for P7 and P4.

The difference between the 3 is that at Sunway they offer text book and revision kit for the papers which already cost about RM200, plus it is usually longer hours.

Like ACCA P1 at Sunway is 100 hours vs at Citypro and Cresendo it is 66 hours

Good luck picking the right place thumbup.gif

Why 70k?

CAT 4 papers can be done for free at ACCA-X

You will only need to pay for the exam fees

The balance 3 papers for FIA will cost about RM1500 per paper with exam fees - that is RM4,500

If you plan to do CAT full, then there is another two papers of RM3,000

Now the total for CAT is RM7,500

If you then decided to do ACCA

ACCA F4 - F6 will cost you around RM4,500 with the exam fee

ACCA F7 - F9 will cost another RM6,000 with exam fee

OK that comes up to RM18,000

You can then do a degree with OBU and get your BSc, say for RM 5,000

Now that cost you RM23,000

You earn an average of RM2,800 per month for the first 2 years

You will actually payback your fee in 1 year.

So why is that so hard.

If you take longer to work, you earn less and save less.

Say you take extra 1 year to get to work, you will be slower to earn that money and your valuation would be discounted by 1 year

Hope that helps about the fee

any recommended lecturer for P 1 and P 2?  smile.gif

Lecturer for P2
Sunway - Lee / Santha (Ms.Menon is not teaching this time)
Jpro/Inti - Jay
Kasturi - Spencer
FTMS - Tom
Yes - Joe Fang
Elite / KDU - Mary / Haneef

Lecturer for P1
Sunway - Kiran / Goh
Kasturi - Parminder / Marcus
Jpro - Jay
Yes - Siva
Elite - Sheila
FTMS - Joey
KDU - Tan

All have their own styles of teaching and you need to know whether you have core competencies or zero knowledge. Whether you need to be pushed or self-motivated

P1 tops up from your audit paper and, therefore, will be a refresher paper.

P2 is top up from F7, or if you did a degree, it would be your corporate reporting paper.

It looks like many people rushed to P1 and P3 thinking that the merger of this paper will occur in September 2016.
NO IT WILL OCCUR SOMEWHERE IN will in September 2017. You still have 6 sittings before the merger

Mar 2016
June 2016
Sept 2016
Dec 2016
Mar 2017
June 2017

SO SELECT WISELY

Those that have first class honours and 2nd upper - Do your OBU before you hit ACCA Optional. It is best to be done when you do P1/P3 and not when you do P2.

Paper P2 has just got harder given what the examiner is expecting students to be very discursive and his examiner comments have indicated that students cannot depend on the lecturer only.

Paper P3 management accounting content is getting much more complex and refined - the examiner has indicated that the days of ratio analysis is now outdated - he will be expecting detailed knowledge of

Finance
Management accounting

So the above is now an expected knowledge of students that are doing the P3 paper.

In term of paper P1, this paper is still the same.

Hi, anyone tried Jpro for P5 & P7 online classes? I am staying in another state, cannot make it to Shah Alam where their centre is located. It's not exactly convenient for me to travel there especially when I am working. Was wondering whether the online class is exactly the same as the face-to-face learning module, ie. presented by Mr Jay?
Tried the one with UK mindmap online class, but I don't quite like it. Will prefer if the Taught and Revision online class is presented by Mr Jay and notes prepared by him, and can have access to forum just like face-to-face students.
Any idea, anyone? smile.gif

I checked the online courses from BPP and Kaplan UK, very costly, especially after conversion....  :omg:
*
Hi Maree

Yes the classes are the same, with access to forums and also new evernote platform for sharing the notes.
