My house has really old window-mounted airconds that I intend to replace.
Are the aircond installation contractors able to remove them when they install the new (split) airconds?

These days, do airconds need magnetic starters?
I haven't given much thought about it, but right now I can hear a faint hum coming from the starter, and it's also warm to touch. Because if I don't need it, and it wastes electricity and makes noise, I should get rid of it? |

QUOTE(kimsim @ Aug 14 2014, 05:31 AM) What is your Aircon brand there is come with starter? It doesn't come with a starter; it was a leftover from the old window rattler aircond (from 15 years ago or something like that). For York or others brand already built in starter from long time ago.. I don't know why the contractor didn't just wire the new aircond directly instead of through the starter |

Just bought an online electricity consumption meter for my house.
This chart shows my house total consumption. During this time I had two airconds running - one inverter, and one non-inverter. The non-inverter aircond's 1000W cycles are quite clear. As the night progresses, the cycles become further apart. At about 11PM this aircond is turned off. I drew in red my guesstimate of the inverter aircond's power consumption. Check out how it steps down gradually and eventually settles down on a cycle that's way smaller (in amplitude). ![]() |
