I'm currently using single phase, not intending to upgrade. Even price to turn into 3phase isn't that expensive, after consulted its actually less than rm1k. The cable pole is next after my Neighbour unit, it isn't underground.
I have 5 non-inverter airconds, 2x 2.5hp, 1x 1.5hp and 2x 1.0hp. I'm running max 3 airconds at any point of time (even on both 2.5hp). I was told its safe and manageable by my unit's load, after calculation. However I test to have all 5 on at one go, during installation. It has no problem at all. Btw I have 1 600l fridge only.
Just make sure the wireman knows what they are doing. They should recommend proper wire size and DB box distribution. Many times those 3 phase are over-kill... Unless users need to operate all airconds at any point of time (more than 3, perhaps).

Is their regulation, single phase only allow 2 1HP air cond, if follow the book.
Anyway, if all the high power consumption appliance are taking from main fuse box, then it won't have so much problem.

Almost all new houses are coming with 3phase ready. But don't think 2x 1.0hp airconds need that, yet.
