New to the camera world here, just bought my first camera the Sony NEX-5T few days ago.

Been playing with it and I want to know if you can change the settings for the zoom ring on the lens. I love playing with the manual focus but the thing I hate is that I have to soft click on the shutter button and hold it down to be able to use the zoom ring to focus. I find it very hard to soft click and hold the shuttle button at the same time and try to focus.

Is there anyway to change the zoom ring on the lens to focus only? Since there's another zoom lever on the side already. Or is there any way to use manual focus more efficiently?

Thanks.

For my NEX 3N, if I set focus to manual focus....the ring can only be used to focus (no need to soft click). If I set focus to auto focus then only the ring can be used to zoom. hmm.gif

Okay thanks, I tried MF and it works as you said. I am travelling now so I set mine to DMF (though I don't know what it means) because it allows me to auto-focus and manual focus at the same time.

I just wish I could use the ring as manual focus only since there's already a slider for zoom.

DMF is direct manual focus. Means auto focus first, then allow u to manual focus to further adjust the pic.
