Im wonder how product barcode generate .....

I had import some OEM product from China , but all is without retail packaging, and i will do my own packaging in Malaysia .

So about the barcode , can i use the same barcode from China manufacturer or i had to create my own barcode ?

I also did search at google , i realize if need a barcode for product , it need to be register with some department ?


Let say if my packaging is without barcode , if i supply to chain-store or super market , can they create a barcode by themself ?
Example : Popular book store always have their own price tag with barcode
