I'll recommend the Zoom H1 (about RM340). I'll also recommend buying the H1's accessory pack (about RM70), which gives a good casing and most importantly the wind screen.
This recorder has been great for interviews and it looks like a microphone with the wind screen on. You can also plug in head phones to the device so you can hear what is really being recorded. You can also plug in a more advance mic to the recorder like a shotgun mic or lavalier mic to expand its uses. |

QUOTE(mhdsaifulaziz @ Jan 20 2014, 11:51 AM) This thread already few weeks old. This reply is slow. But what is really wrong is that TS ask for a portable recorder, not a mic. You can't record anything with just the rode videomic. |

Remove the word "only" and the statement would be more accurate.
It is directional rather than omni-directional. It is a good thing. You place the device so that the sound source you want to record is in front, and it will record less of the background noise coming from the opposite side. |

errr.. ok, so for H1N.. they use XY mic config. it is advisable to use when recording conversation between 2 people (face each other)? in case i dont have access to constantly re-position the mic?

Don't know about H1N. But my old H2, has different modes. Can select to record from the front only, or both sides.
