I posted this before to the 3DS user thread, but no reply. Problem is serious.

My Animal Crossing New Leaf 3DS XL developed a crack on the hinge



I googled it and it seems that the problem is quite common and all always develop in the same area.

Anyone know what I can do if MMSoft cannot/refuse to repair? I think the 3DS is still in warranty (bought end of June, only 5 months into the year). I don't want a one-on-one replacement since 1. This is a special edition 3DS XL which I don't want to give up, 2. I don't want to initiate transfer unless absolutely necessary.

Hmmm... Shop I got the 3DS XL from, Gamester Direct at 1U. I will check with them and see where it goes.
