its all luck. not everything is made perfect, thats why electronic products are guaranteed for.
if you scare of hard disk failure, is possible to get a Seagate or WD, as those are more reliable.

Like what raymond said everything is not perfect but the support is good IMO.

So far I never had any hard disk issues.

my colleague dell mobo change twice, daugtherboard once, harddisk twice... even adapter and battery changed once (at 2nd years 9 months, not sure how he nag the dell to change for him)...

the only thing that dell is proud is their warranty, the stuff QC is generally low (inspiron/vostro line), just my personally experience...

and keyboard quality is bad either (old insprion and vostro line, not sure now insprion 7000 how). you can feel the gap everytime you type...

Here's my requirement

1. Preferred Brand: Any brand except Toshiba, Acer, HP, Compaq (horrible experience with these brands)
2. Budget: Less than RM2000
3. Usage: MS Word and MS Excel, lot of number crunching, surfing and watching downloaded movie/music
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 14 inch and above, the bigger the better.
5. Hardware built-up should also have additional RAM slot for future RAM upgrades, Bluetooth and webcam.
6. OS: Prefer Windows 8 and above, 64-bit
7. Above mentioned budget should also include license to use Windows 8 and the latest MS Office.

Different people will have different experiences with a particular brand yo
Some good some bad, that's electronics for you haha

Its all about the "category" for each brand
For example: Budget line notebooks will never be better than Premium line notebooks   
Apple products are deemed good quality because they only sell Premium notebooks (>RM3k)
