1. Preferred Brand: Non-Apple
2. Budget: ∞ 3. Usage: Web browsing, document browsing, low task load but requires good battery stamina, portable 4. Preferred laptop/screen size: Under 14" I know my demand for a laptop might sound a little impossible, but is there anything out there that has the battery life of a Macbook Air while keeping its form factor as small as possible? I'm eyeing at the Zenbook UX301LA, however the battery life is not up to par, doesn't come with a gigabit LAN (thou it comes with a USB to ethernet converter) I need to buy something portable, slim, battery efficient, looks nice and presentable. Only need to open documents and surf net. Preferably SSD or Hybrid. IPS screen is a bonus. Touch screen is optional. Thanks *** Add: Will the UX302LG have shorter battery life as compared to the UX301LA due to the graphic card? Assuming both is on low load like net surfing. |

QUOTE(raymondtong94 @ Jan 22 2014, 08:57 PM) hello there fellow Lenovo K900 owner. i think you can choose a laptop with extendable battery is a better solution. *ex-K900 user Lenovo ThinkPad X240, i5-4200U + Intel HD4400 + 16GB mSATA + 1TB HDD@RM4129, 4GB, W7P+W8P, 3 years ThinkPad X240, i7-4600U + Intel HD4400 + 16GB mSATA + 1TB HDD@RM4949, 4GB, W7P+W8P, 3 years, IPS screen Sony Vaio SVP13218PGB, i7-4500U + Intel HD4400 + 256GB SSD + (1920x1080)@RM4999[1.06kg], 4GB, W8SL, stylus Vaio SVP13213SGS, i5-4200U + Intel HD4400 + 128GB SSD + (1920x1080)@RM3799[1.06kg], 4GB, W8SL ThinkPad X240 is very bulky. Thou its pretty much meets my criteria, mass wise and spec wise and I see the battery life is pretty awesome Will not consider the Sony and would give other brands priority. |

QUOTE(raymondtong94 @ Jan 22 2014, 10:06 PM) it was bulky because it is made to break the floor. Yes, they are built to last. Been using IBM's Thinkpads in school back then.not to mention, the major part of the laptop is mainly made of military grade stuffs. But for that price, I can buy a mid-range MBP already. Sunday afternoon, I was just about to buy the RM4,899 variant of the 13" Retina MacBook Pro. Then I thought I should ask you guys one more time before purchasing such an expensive laptop.
Of course, for now I am very biased towards the rMBP. But I would like to know non-Mac alternatives that: • Is slim, light and portable • Has an SSD (no hybrid nor mechanical disks please) • Lasts for more than 6 hours per charge on web surfing • At least a 1080p (full HD screen) • IPS screen (or good TNs) • Performance is the least priority but as fast as possible • Budget isn't a thing (but the laptop must worth its pricetag) I'm considering: Sony Vaio Pro SVP13218PGB but: - More expensive than the rMBP (Macs have better resale value) - 4GB of RAM is not enough for large projects in Photoshop/Illustrator Sony Vaio Fit SVF15N18PG but: - Weighs a ton - Mechanical HDD - Short life span Asus ZenBook UX301LA - DE016H but: - Not worth the price (IMHO. Then the DE017H variant has too little RAM and storage space) - Hear say the scaling issue is ridiculous - No HDMI! (thou it comes with adapters for the DisplayPort) (UX302 has a mechanic HDD, so no) Dell XPS 13-9333 but: - Like all other Dells, no numpad FN mode - Pricing HP Spectre 13-3002tu but: - Price - 128GB of storage Thank you. QUOTE(raymondtong94 @ Mar 3 2014, 10:32 AM) to be frank, of all the laptops you listed, rMBP has the best spec around. Iris graphics (powerful integrated graphics by Intel), 256GB storage and decent build quality. if you like to have Windows, you can always bootcamp it. QUOTE(Kivaa @ Mar 3 2014, 12:39 PM) If you are comfortable with mac os x and u really want the ssd. The mbp is a good choice as it is. Windows bootcamp is there if u want it Don't really need Windows by the looks of it. Thank you both. |

QUOTE(xproc @ Mar 3 2014, 06:41 PM) corrected... I said at least 6 hours in order to give other laptops a chance haha. nice choice and it was my favorite mac variant also, and welcome to OS X, all things you do can be done on OS X, please consider add a ACPP when it almost time end... you would not miss w8.1 that much, and still there are boot camp if you need it... Oh, so I should get it near my warranty ends rather than getting it right after buying my MacBook Pro? Of course, boot camp |
