Hello all,

Need recommendation on buying a new laptop from all the sifu's here. Here are the details:

1. Preferred Brand :
MSI. Any other brand's that give a stylish outlook will be considered as well.

2. Budget :
less than 4k. Slightly over a bit still acceptable.

3. Usage :
Gaming. I play a lot of online game.

4. Preferred laptop/screen size :
Preferred to have backlit keyboard. If possible, light-weighted. 14" to 16" (less than 17").

Hope my request is not too unrealistic.  notworthy.gif

5. prefer to use a lower sized SSD as primary drive, and 750gb~1tb hard drive as secondary drive

hi guys, so i'm looking for a laptop that can last me for the next 3-4 years. Looking to upgrade to a gaming laptop now, so far i have considered a few brands.

sager - afraid of warranty problem as we have to send the laptop back to US :gasp:

Alienware - Was hoping to get m15x, but the only ones in market now is 14 inch and 17 inch. too small and over budget

MSI - dont really know much about MSI..

MSI is quite famous laugh.gif esp in gaming rig.

MSI GE60-2OE, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GTX765M + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM4299,8GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W8, backlit keyboard

more mainstream
Illegear RE-15, i5-4200M + Nvidia GTX765M + (1920x1080)@RM3499[2.6kg][Onkyo, SoundBlaster Cinema], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), FreeDOS, [CPU Options: i5-4200M - i7-4900MQ]

which the cpu can be customised, hard disk type, SSD type, wireless card and even the thermal paste type. we have local Illegear dealer here too.. any info, can ask here https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2613184

@raymondtong94

thanks!

Light gaming - no specific games in my mind now, but maybe will try some newly released games in MID setting mode,
Those 2 are good but it's over my budget. hmm.gif
Also for Acer V7-582PG-74501225k, would it be possible to add another HDD?

thanks!  thumbup.gif

only if you purchase gaming notebook. such as Asus G series. 2 HDD bay.. 500GB+500GB.. maybe u can change 1x500GB to 1 tera? brows.gif @RM3999,

i see. thanks!
can you suggest other model that can have both SSD and HDD at the same time?
not sure if as long as a laptop have dvd drive, it can always be converted as hdd bay..  hmm.gif

if u willing to spend more on extra SSD+HDD, Illegear will be the best choice.. which is multimedia/gaming series notebook too.. much more expensive..

Hello sifu's i really need a recommendation here

1.i don't care as long as the warranty is easy to be claimed
2.max budget i can go 1.9k
3.can run dota 2 without prob is already fine for me
4.doesn't care as long as the performance is best bang for the buck

p.s. does installing your own OS void the warranty ?
*
erm, nope.. but its a lot cheaper w/o OS..and freeDos have CD driver provided.. so dont worry...

14"
Acer E1-472G-54204G50, i5- 4200U + Nvidia GT720M@RM1699, 4GB, 500GB, FreeDOS

MSI CX41, i5-3210M + AMD HD7670M@RM1799, 2GB,750GB, freeDOS

Toshiba Satellite M840-1070XR/XW, i5-3230M + AMD HD7670M@RM1999, 2GB, 500GB, W8SL; 2 years local warranty; colors:red/white

Lenovo S410p, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT720M@RM1799[2.1kg], 4GB, 500GB, DOS

think dat MSI and Toshiba seems better and suite your needs. even 3rd gen intel. but still better than 4th gen, 4th gen kinda ultra processor which prolong usage of battery and consume less power.. but kinda bad performance when gaming heavily..
