true true, have you tried using FHD on a 11" or 13" notebook?
Eyes painful yo  laugh.gif
And kept on miss-pressing icons  doh.gif

my gf have Asus UX31A... full hd 13"... the problem with 13" Full HD is that the windows is not yet optimized for it. We need to manually adjust the screen font and titles in order for it to be readable... browser size, photoshop.... all is weird... no matter how you adjust it, the size is still weird... in fact i think 1600x900 is better resolution if this problem is not fixed.

and till now i think the problem is not fixed... very annoying..

macs do not have this problem...

It does not mean that in any way.

Windows unfortunately scales the DPI to 125% out of the box when confronted with HD settings, I normally dial it back to 100% to make it sharper. Smaller? Definately, but looks nice enough.

Macs scaling is different. The text may still be 10pts in size but because there are more pixels images look sharper. Does not stop problems such as low quality images spoiling things however.
*
set 13" 1920x1080 to 100% DPI... you can see properly i salute you.... notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

why windows cannot 10 pts fixed no matter what resolution... its not rocket science....

actually which one best?

HD: 1366 x 768 ?
Full HD: 1920 x 1080 ?
*
14 or 15" above... Full HD
13" or below... craps (blame windows not hardware)

but when see movie... sure full hd is goodess la...but normal when browsing... the 100% DPI especially at 13" full HD make me dizzy...

or anyone here can give guide to proper manual setting...

i5-4200U = very poor processor... sad.gif

i rather choose i5-4200M notworthy.gif
*
how poor is ur poor... if you said in terms of performance maybe you are correct...

i5-4200U is optimised for long battery performance... used in many ultrabooks....

U and M definitely different category la..

Apple is better, since you could always bootcamp to get the best of both worlds + Apple is more efficient when it comes to Photo and video editing laugh.gif
But make sure you have lots of RAM and space (and money in your pocket)! laugh.gif

However, if you are not interested in using Mac OSX, then the XPS15 will suffice. Just swap the hybrid HDD with a 512GB SSD and you will still be spending less than on the Apple units aforementioned

Regardless of what you choose in the end, do make sure you extend warranty to 3 years.. machines like this will cost a bomb when they break down laugh.gif
*
512GB SSD = cost a bomb also la... lol....

anyway i would like to point out Intel Iris Pro 5200 is just 15% lower performance than nvidia 750m

QUOTE(akash3656 @ Jan 20 2014, 05:02 PM)
Any recommendation for a MacBook Air Windows alternative?

1. Any brand as long the build quality is premium (similar to UX31A)
2. Price range: RM 3-4K
3. General use
4. 13"

TL;DR A machine similar to the MacBook Air or a MacBook Air clone (or better)

If you aren't well versed with the MacBook Air, basically it should be thin, light, long endurance on battery but runs on Windows. Touch screen not required.

Preferably Haswell and at least 1440x900 or any other resolution that isn't equal to or less than 1368x768.

A quick glance showed most of the options costs above 4k. rclxub.gif

buy macbook air and bootcamp windows in it... here some articles related to bootcamp on 2013 macbook airs

Want to ask opinions on Ultrabook.

I found Samsung offer attractive design for their ultrabooks plus the price is not really expensive (range around RM1.8k - RM2.3k for standard spec) rather than acer S7 or Asus Zenbook or Lenovo Yoga 11. I mean ultrabooks which look like Macbook Air.

Is it worth to buy samsung ultrabooks? Like model Series 5 NP530U4E or NP450R4E with comparison other ultrabooks. Somehow, the cheaper one used Quardcore or AMD processor rather than i3 or i5. What's the difference and which one better?

My preference is looks cosy like Macbook air with the cheaper price.

Thanks.
*
you can look for asus vivobook for your budget, its almost like zenbook, except is plastic chassis instead aluminium...

thanks.

BOth Celerons? Are they recommended?

I had bad experiences in 2002 with celerons.

But will review the laptops later.

thanks..
*
hello this is 2014 d, still compare with 2002 meh, the spec in this laptop should be equivalent with RM 10~15k laptop if it is at 2002, for the price you pay this is the best you can get loh...

i will choose the lenovo with celerons 1005M, faster than celeron 1007U

yea, less crap lol... anyway i found out one thing good about windows 8/8.1 is fully UEFI compatible... i will try bootcamp windows 8.1 to my mac through UEFI, see how the result compare to BIOS booting

QUOTE(((Xa))0102 @ Jan 21 2014, 10:17 PM)
1. Preferred Brand: Non-Apple
2. Budget: ∞
3. Usage: Web browsing, document browsing, low task load but requires good battery stamina, portable
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: Under 14"
I know my demand for a laptop might sound a little impossible, but is there anything out there that has the battery life of a Macbook Air while keeping its form factor as small as possible?

I'm eyeing at the Zenbook UX301LA, however the battery life is not up to par, doesn't come with a gigabit LAN (thou it comes with a USB to ethernet converter)

I need to buy something portable, slim, battery efficient, looks nice and presentable. Only need to open documents and surf net. Preferably SSD or Hybrid. IPS screen is a bonus. Touch screen is optional. Must be Windows fine with FreeDos, but it must be a non Apple.

Thanks
***

Add: Will the UX302LG have shorter battery life as compared to the UX301LA due to the graphic card? Assuming both is on low load like net surfing.
*
the reason macbook air got >12 hours battery life with its form factor is because it is run under mac OSX. if bootcamp with windows 7/8/8.1, the battery life becomes 8~9 hours only, or maybe less...

after some research last time, found out the macbook air even the keyboard and trackpad use low power SPI, together with LPDDR3 ram, low power processor, less power hogging OS, then only can obtain such battery life....

if you want a laptop that can last longer, you should maintain it once every 3 months to avoid the dust clogging at the heatsinks. clogged airflow results in raise of core temperature and may even lead to damage under a short/long term (heat is the main enemy of laptops). anyway, suggestions :

3 months once? who got do that wor? my previous laptop (windows laptop) after one year i opened it, apa dust pun dont have... 2nd time i opened it (1.5 years), got a little dust at fans, vents and heat sink... but i also broke the touchpad cables... temperature also not much difference...

i think after 1.5 years can open to clean dust + change thermal paste... then got 5-10 degree difference at full load la...

after 3 years = change new laptop la....

Just wanna know the sifus opinions' here..
which one is better to have? SSD with an i5 3rd Gen processor or an i5 4th Gen processor but with more hard drive storage space?
Mostly use for assignments and basic web surfing.

[EDIT] Anyone knows where I can buy laptop through installment plan? I can't afford to pay fully in one shot.
*
sure get ssd with 4th gen i5 processor... if can... who still want old generation processor wor..

because
ssd = fast boot speed...
4th gen i5 = save battery (if no discrete GC)

Anyway, for your case...
if internal graphics (for example ultrabook etc), i will choose core i5 4th gen with larger HDD (slower HD speed but more battery and can save more files to hard disk) some laptop later can upgrade harddisk if you want (those not so slim one)....

if got discrete graphics and must want SSD, then choose 3rd gen with SSD lor...
