Hi guys, it seems that Sony is doing promotion on its vaio laptops now and I came across the Vaio Pro 11 and Vaio Tap 11 (i5) at rm3099 and rm2999 which I find it quite attractive. Can I know which one is better? I am looking for something light, portable and yet powerful enough to run engineering softwares like autocad, matlab, etc. And will the small screen with such high resolution be a big problem? Thanks

according to notebookcheck, it is 2 floors away from the router but i think it varies between countries or depends on how good your router antenna is.
*
Oh..2 floor away..then that's ok. Well any laptop 2 floor away i don't think there is good wifi reception right?
I was thinking router at ground floor, laptop at 1st floor already got problem.

I see the spec for 7000, its a dual band...what does that means?

I see... 2 floors away seems acceptable to me. Any other notebook with similar spec to the inspiron 7000 that you can recommend? (i7 4th gen, ultrabook, budget RM3500~)

dual band means you can connect to either the 2.4GHZ or 5GHZ band wifi. 2.4GHZ is the most common wifi band and can be very congested. 5GHZ is less common/congested which should provide more stable wifi. (but you'll need a router that support dualband wifi)

those laptops arent sufficient for you to do those works. those ultrabooks you listed are just for normal and office use. if you want a real power horse, you can look at this :

Illegear
RE-13 Pro, i5-4200M + Nvidia GTX765M + (1920x1080 IPS)@RM3999[2kg][Onkyo, SoundBlaster Cinema], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), Backlit Keyboard, FreeDOS, [CPU Options: i5-4200M - i7-4900MQ]
RU-14 Pro, i7-4750HQ + Intel Iris Pro 5200 + (1920x1080 IPS)@RM3999[1.9kg], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), FreeDOS

MSI
GE40-2OC-290MY, i7-4702MQ + Nvidia GTX760M + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM4199[1.9kg], 8GB, 1TB(7200rpm), W8

prices in RRP and negotiable.

i7 4th gen ultrabook not possible with that budget. the only best option you can get is the Dell Inspiron 14 7000.

the 2 that closest and nearest to your budget :

Lenovo
Yoga 2 pro, i7-4500U + Intel HD4400 + 256GB SSD + (3200x1800 IPS; touch)@RM4199[1.39kg], 8GB, W8.1, 2 yrs

Acer
Aspire S7-392-74504G12, i7-4500U + Intel HD4400 + 128GB SSD + (1920x1080; touch)@RM3999[1.3kg], 4GB, W8.1

if you want slimmer laptops, then you might need to sacrifice some performance. your options :

if you want higher performance but a little bulkier :

Lenovo Y410p, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT755M(GDDR5)@RM2899, 4GB, 1TB, DOS, red backlit, 120w psu, swappable ODD, 2 years warranty

hey there, welcome back. for your budget, it is a problem with FHD screen as your preferred taste. if you prioritize AUTOCAD performance more and FHD screen, its better for you to top up your budget to 3.5k for this :

Lenovo Y510p, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT755M(GDDR5) + (1920x1080)@RM3399[2.7kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8.1, red backlit, swappable ODD, 120w psu, 2 yrs

a little brother version (cheaper but no FHD screen) with 3.2k :

Lenovo
Y410p, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT755M(GDDR5)@RM2899, 4GB, 1TB, DOS, red backlit, 120w psu, swappable ODD, 2 years warranty
Y410p, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT755M(GDDR5)@RM3199, 8GB, 1TB, W8.1, red backlit, 120w psu, swappable ODD, 2 years warranty

if you prioritize warranty service but will have weaker performance (within your budget) :

Dell
Inspiron 14R, i7-4500U + Nvidia GT750M (GDDR5) @RM2499[2.32kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), Ubuntu 12.04 , 6 cell; W8SL@RM2699

prices in RRP and negotiable.
