New Peugeot 408T now selling 115K? Price drop a lot
*
I think stock clearing for facelift 408. Most of feel the facelift model has lost French DNA. This is the best time to get the present model!

I can tell you that this is not gimmick. I called the company and its actually registered car and offered interest rate 3.8% becausethe car considered as used. (But in reality, its still a new car. Only on paper used car)
*
Oh ok,that means this is a one off thing. This is not the new offer. After 2 years, my loan is still 10K higher than this price.........damn!

I wonder if these sales will effect the resale value....
*
Ofcourse will affect resale value. Current demand will have a correction effect, good to know used 408s appear to have a slight demand.

Correction effect? Lost me there bro.

It's well know fact Peugeot has poor resale value. There are now quite a few Pugs in the used car market and difficult to get buyers.

However 408 seem to differ slightly. Used 408s appear to be snapped up reasonably quickly. Only last month I was coxing my family to get a used 408NA listed at $75K. All 3 cars that very advertised have been sold, when we called up.

If there is demand for this car in the used car market, then resale value will not slide as bad as other Pugs. This is correction effect.

On a serious note, this car is much more reliable than some perceived "German precession quality" cars that people are willing to throw their hard earned cash. As public become aware of 408 engine/gb reliability, correction effect will improve.

I think so far 408 sales progress are quite good. I see more and more car on the road. Can easily spotted compare to last 3 month. Hope Nasim will not trow more price to get buyer. This will also effected the current owner. For new user, of course the cheaper is a good news. But so far compare to other same segment of the car, this consider a reasonable price.
*
115K for this car is fantastic price. What other car is there at this price to match performance? Clearly C segment King. Damn good for new buyers! thumbup.gif

Yah man....2 source say's different figures....Big difference 300nm and 400nm....
*
Aisin manufactures gb for all sorts of vehicles according to vehicle manufactures specification. Aisin has a number of 6spd gb with different torque capabilities.

AT6 was developed and manufactured by Aisin AW based on specifications defined PSA for the 308 replacing 4spd AL4. This new gearbox was designed to withstand a maximum torque of 300 Nm.

I think Wikipedia list is not updated. You won't even find AM6,which was developed by Aisin capable of 450nm, for PSA 2/2.2 liter turbo diesels.

Thanks so much for the clarification.

In terms of reliability, can I say this has been a great improvement since 308 time?
*
It's a quantum leap in reliability from the initial 308 and huge leap from the 6sp 308s which replaced the earlier 4spd models . As a matter of fact 2014 308 which is European car of the year is fitted with the same engine on the 408 (EP6CDTM). The new launched 3008 also comes with this engine. It would not surprise me to see greater use of this engine in the future due to it's reliability! thumbup.gif

FYI the following are mods done on the EP6CDTM which has improved reliability.

1) Engine tuned to run on RON 87 petrol
2) Remapped ECU
3) New designed piston with lower compression
4) New designed catalyzer.
5) New engine oil filter housing with heat exchanger
6) New turbo charger
7) New fuel tank gauge unit with lower pressure pump to handle lower grade petrol.
8) A fuel filter to cater for hash atmospheric condition ( third world country)

just book my blue 408T today~!! yay~!!!
about the battery kong issue and third brake lamp issue have been fixed for new batch of 408T ?
*
Most issues on the 408, be it NA or THP, have been QC items not defective due to design. It's important to realize the difference. The point to note is that, problems are satisfactorily fixed and customers have not reported reappearance of any issue.

What I'm saying is that you may still endup with a brake light issue, but it will be solved on warranty. As for battery, many of us are on our 2nd battery. Some got it FOC,I had to pay, as mine failed beyond warranty period. Coming up to almost a year on my new battery. All is well! biggrin.gif

Yeah all these start ratings are nonsense. 4star on one,2star on another. I seriously doubt they know what they are talking about! The best assessment is the test drive by owner. Owner has to be satisfied by the feel and kit he is getting for his money.

In my case I took it a step further. I did a fair amount of tech research. Tested all the cars on my list. NICE was top contender till I tested NAUGHTY. One thing I realized at the binging, the price diff was worth all the extras on the THP. It was love on the test drive by the 1st KM! rolleyes.gif

Congrats bro. The SAs do a pretty good job of pre delivery inspection, at least mine did! I was impressed by his pre delivery briefing, very through. Me being a technical person saying I was impressed means he was really good.

Just drive away and enjoy. tongue.gif

i see .. about the battery... it still last long (about 1 years) is it ?
cant wait for my little lion .. = )

I think now it all local battery. These last longer than the French made which were fitted to most of the early 408s.

General info to our bros:
Don't need to go to SC to change battery. Price difference is $200, cheaper at battery shop. Will not affect warranty by changing battery outside.

What is your take on Mazda 3 & Jetta on power and handling as compared to the 408t.

The reason I chose 408T over others are...
1.  Mazda3 has the power but not as good as pug and mazda3 loses on cabin space
2.  I feel mazda6 2.0 lacks of power.. 2.4 could be better but its beyond my budget. Interior wise...stil pug
3.  Jetta has lots of power because of charger and turbo.. but then I dont feel safe. Steering too light.. cheap interior. Pug gives better control
4.  Passat is in the same segment as 508. Driven 508 as well. Power almost the same.. and again pug gives luxury feel. Passat was beyond budget as well. I believe in term of power... 408T still win

This is just me.. you guys should know better..
*
Actually your assessment is correct. I was quite keen on the Jetta.

However the outdated interior put me off. Test drive showed Jetta's handling not that good, quite a bit of body roll. Steering feedback was poor and unprecise, which you felt unsafe. At that time did not realize the infamous DSG. Although DSG gb is alot more advanced than our Aisin gb,but it's a nightmare in waiting!

I'd say you made an excellent choice, enjoy your Lion! biggrin.gif

I mean generally that is conderation before buy a car. But in this case, I am refer Jetta. My colleague have a Jetta less then a year. He really having nightmare since day one taken the car until now. Been repeatly send to workshop month after month. Now like bottle neck and need to sell out the car for only less then RM98,000 yet no buyer. But out there, there are many people who hate W. Someone actually have the time to poke them out due to warranty issues. Cause most of them really got warranty void problem.

Because of this reason, W is out of my selection list before I get Peugeot 408. Regarding the Mazda 3, the reason not on my list it because of CBU and over my budget. I worry getting the part later. Usually I think most of will do is try to google it and identified the problem. It took me more then a year of survey before getting this car. It's expensive toy to me and this will last me another 10 year before thinking to change new car.
*
Wow problem with Jetta from day one aah! rclxub.gif I get you now, but I think there are more Pug dislikes than VW. Even though 408 is so much more reliable than Jetta & Passat. There is till this perception of "German quality".

Since you intend to keep your Pug for 10years, found any spare parts shop and good workshop?
