Hi detailing sifu,
Between permanon and meg ulti wax,

which one is more durable? for duarable i mean like tahan at least 3-4 months in our weather.

Last time using meg gold class, max 3 weeks then can see the water beading effect diminished. Looking for a more durable wax as i living in an apartment and car detailing is painfully inconvenient sad.gif

Ya imo meg really no good lol. Permanon can last longer like 2~3 months parking outside 24/7 by my experience.
*
ya.. i could agree with you for their gold class wax, that wax create deep gloss shine but cannot withstand harsh weather. Maybe more suitable for garage queen.
But i am not sure about their ultimate paste/liquid wax as i heard a lot of good feedback regarding improved durability compared to gold class

how frequent do you wash your car and what kinda of product do you use to wash your car ? Can't just blame the wax not long lasting, should also look at how did you maintain it.
*
Wash weekly with nxt wash wax. Just no quick detailing top up. Any problem with that beside no QD top up?

i'm on megs ultimate liquid wax topped with sonax brilliant shine detailer...

since january till now still beads/sheets biggrin.gif (refer my previous picture taken last 1-2 weeks ago or so.)

Thanks for the feedback

I am happy with anything last more than 3 months with weekly wash in our weather.

Have you tried permanon diamond b4?

I like synthetic wax(sealant) more than the carnauba as generally carnauba wax lack in terms of durability. Even half day heavy downpour can wipe my newly applied gold class down to drain..

Thank you very much smile.gif Is it advisable to wax a week old car? Would it damage my paint?
*
feel free to do that provided wax used is pure wax, ie no cleaner/polish wax or All in One

Btw guys,
Mind to intro some all purpose cleaner(APC) that you are using to strip wax/bug/tar and where to get it?

Some findings from me after using permanon diamond for the 2nd week,

silky effect lost after 1 week esp the front panels which constantly get 'sand blasted' while traveling. For Top, side and back panels, it is still there but have been reduced dramatically compared to what i had felt the first 3 days.
Water beading is still there. But the beads is not as tight after the 1st week.

This week, i tried to recoat the whole car again to give it another chance. This time, i bathed it with diluted hecta PL(APC), hopefully I would get a better result

permanon is a coating or just layer of 'quick' wax  ?
*
frm what i have read, they marketed it as "semi-permanent coating" but i have seen some ppl use it as a quickie on top of their permanent coating eg opti coat

Anyway, some typo, should be permanon platinum instead of diamond

QUOTE(scoutfai @ May 1 2014, 10:10 PM)
I think he means this product:
Platinum Diamond 50ml

Description here:
Platinum Diamond

A coating that is not as famou as Opti Coat, 22PLE, etc but one unique thing about it is, you dilute it yourself!
Where as Opti Coat, 22PLE, etc you have to use it straight out from the bottle. And these Opti Coat, 22PLE all sold in small little bottle.
The Permanon can be bought in 1 Liter ! And then you dilute it youself, can be used on all surfaces. Feel like an economical spray wax with very long durability to me, but it is a coating, it has silica inside.
*
hi scoutfai,
Mind to share your technique of application? How you maintain it? with booster?
I have read that some even recommend to wash it with dish wash liquid to increase its durability as some car shampoo might have gloss enhancer or other 'particle' that is oppositely charged. And because of that, it will attract and lift permanon from the paint surface, stick together and wash away

Oops then it is even more odd.
But i have never used this product myself so I am unable to give conclusive opinion.
Maybe it is a kind of coating which is not design to give extreme sleekness and water bead like Opti Coat and 22PLE ?
Just like wax, some wax not bead well but the protection is still there.
*
ya.. mayb u are right, i should not judge its protection alone from water beading/sheeting. but sometimes couldnt help myself from doing that as looking at water beading on my car body is addicting biggrin.gif

My car color is Aster grey and 1 year never done waxing / polishing before. Paint is stock (not re-painted)

After using UC, water spots totally disappear and swirl mark / scratches hiding into the paint which is great.. However, I noticed several white spots appear after buffing.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

What is the cause of these? These white spots appear all over the car..

Steps that i took:

- Wash

- Clay

- UC

- Paste Wax

Hope experts can explain / help me solving these problem.. Thanks  notworthy.gif
*
I am no expert, just some guessing,
Might be stone chipped spot on your paint that caught all of the UC and paste wax residue inside

yeap, last time i at a well-known shop at taman mayang pj, they provide surface preparation before apply. i think the permanon is not bad, just not up to my expectation in water beading + sheeting. the gloss also not as shining as compare to wax.

Ya, i still have ard 500ml brilliant shine. u wan? i sell u cheap cheap haha
*
Hi bro, same feeling here. haha
abit disappointed. Might try opti-seal or OCW next. Hope either one last longer and looks better than permanon

You need to be aware of their level of expectation and definition of "sophisticated work".
To most people, swirl is not even consider a paint problem. Orange Peel is something only nonsense people will complain about. So what is considered okay, acceptable risk to them, might not be acceptable to you at any bit at all. You yourself understand your own demand the best, so you cannot take others' advice for granted and blindly believe it in. Experiment with it, and if the result is within your expectation, continue using it. Otherwise, continue the search.

Cheap masking tape has a tendency to leave glue reside, being over strong or too weak in adhesive power, and some might not be chemically resistant enough so when your product mix with it, the color (if it has one) can actually dissolve and stain your paint. I have once used cheap masking tape during waxing, end up it leaves a lot of glue residue. The residue is so strong that I have to use mild solvent like turpentine to rub it. This does dissolve the glue residue but at the same time it also removes the wax adjacent to it, so I have to delicately apply wax at this area again. It is a double work for me. Learned it once and never repeat the same mistake again.

That does not mean all RM5 masking tape is worthless piece of shit, but you need to evaluate each yourself and once you successfully find one:
1) Share it here of course.  rclxms.gif
2) Stick to the combination that works for you. Like Mike Phillips from Autogeek always say, choose something you like and use it often.

yah.. this is the most important biggrin.gif

i'm planning to get a bar of clay.. but recently came across that there's different grading for them ? there's harsh and mild clay unsure.gif are the 3M clay bars widely sold in this forum safe to be used for detailing ?
*
I am using it.. no problem so far, just remember to use sufficient lube else the clay residue will stick to ur paint and it is a pain to remove them

More details please. What stain and from which part of plastic? And how long has it been there? Some pics would be even better.....

hi sifu,
plastic part is from my myvi rear wiper due meg gold class wax. The stains has been there for 1 to 2 months, I did not notice it until recently. tried using pencil eraser to wipe and it able to reduce the stains but those stains which sunk in deeper is harder to get out
I might try to post some pic when i back from work
