Awesome the water sheets off until it is almost dry biggrin.gif

What coating is this?
*
You can get this type of sheeting (well...just about) with *almost* all of the good quality waxes/sealants from the well established brands when they're still clean and fresh. The difference would be in the speed - how fast water sheet off, and durability - how long they can maintain the 'clean' sheeting-off actions. The top quality coatings' sheeting speed is INSANELY fast. Let see if I can get it on video tomorrow.

Currently I'm on 22ple. Maybe MWC or arj can show how CQUK and Dodo Juice Infinity Sealant behaves.

I'm afraid currently there's no local supplier. You'd need to get it from outside.

Newbie reporting in^^

Sifus, if I install LED strip at my car front bumper and LED light for my door handler, will JPJ or police kacau? And it wont void my car warranty right?
*
Errr...bro, I think you're in the wrong place..... tongue.gif

But, maybe I could try answering anyway. As far as I know, as long the light isn't those blinking type and not red or blue colour (police, ambulance, etc. colour), you're fine. For warranty, I don't know.

QUOTE(acefreakz @ Jan 7 2014, 01:23 PM)

Bro, water can bead in same size one ah? Isn't that freaky?
I thought my China army is weird, now you sound weirder than me.  laugh.gif
*
Beading on some of the coatings that I've tried can be described as quite 'uniform' and they would normally lay out in a certain 'array'.

Not sure if you guys would notice it from the picture below.

yo guys, where can i get vinegar to wash MF cloths? can use the cooking vinegar? =P
*
DO NOT use those normal cooking vinegar...they are full of 'other' stuffs inside it and difficult to rinse off, especially the smell. Try to find a better quality distilled vinegar instead. Shouldn't cost much.

Yup. That looks good. Btw, you don't use it to 'wash' mfs, u use it as the 2nd final rinse to neutralise any remaining detergent. You'd still need to rinse again with plain water to get rid of the vinegar mix. One tablespoon for a couple of litres of water is good enough dilution already.

Hi guys, normally when you machine polishing the paint, polish/compound dust tend to be all over the paint. How do you tackle this problem especially on panel that haven't been worked on but were full of polishing dust?

Wipe them away with microfiber + QD first? Kinda time consuming ler sweat.gif
*
If they're 'loose' and you plan to polish the panel, just a gentle swipe (not wipe) on those parts with a plush microfiber cloth before polishing is fine. No need for QD or anything.

What is the best coating available? How come some as cheap as rm 300 and others like 2k++?

What should I get for a new white car?
*
Not many coatings are available to purchase for DIY. Those that are ranges from around RM200 ~ RM400. For these you can find plenty of reviews online. But many shop nowadays are using those that cannot be purchased and, for these coatings, curiously, not many reviews/feedback from users. Another thing to note is some shops that uses normal wax/sealant also boast the word 'coating'. The reason being, they're using products from Taiwan, Korea, Japan, etc. which, on the label and by direct translation, would means 'coating' but in actual fact they are waxes/sealant. I'm guessing the cheaper 'coating' jobs are using these instead of the 'true' coating.

Again, for a new car and if you're just starting to get into taking care of the car yourself, concentrate first on washing and maintenance - shampoo, wash mitt, all purpose cleaner, drying cloth, etc. including the proper techniques and methods.

Just wondering guys, saw Aeon Jusco selling Black and Decker KP600 for only RM199 (FOC car vacuum some more.)It is really worthy? Wanna play with something cheaper first before exploring further. Please advice sweat.gif
*
Personally...not worth it. If you're on a budget, give it some time and find an additional RM150 and get the Bosch GEX 125 AE.

Not sure if there's anything else in that price range...unless you want to get a rotary polisher (China brands). The Bosch (the older model that's been superseded by this one) has been commonly used and accepted by many detailing enthusiasts as a reliable and useful machine for light correction work (polishing) and for applying waxes/sealants. And with the advancement of polishes/compounds and pads, it could actually do more than it was able to as compared to decades ago when it first came out.

I've heard of many who had started getting into detailing as a hobby and bought the B&D but, soon enough, 'upgraded' to the Bosch (or rotary) due to the lack of it's ability to do anything else but applying waxes/sealants.

Do you guys give your car a wipedown everyday? If so, what do you use?

I've read about ppl using UQD everyday but I feel that it's a bit expensive sweat.gif

But can't help but feel a bit OCD with all that dust on my car tongue.gif
*
I don't. Too risky. I'd normally shut one eye and wait for the weekend to do my normal routine wash. If you're really OCD then there's one thing that you should know - the more you touch the paint and higher the risk/chance to get the swirls, etc.

QUOTE(cslance @ Jan 20 2014, 11:43 PM)
Hi guys, i had go through the thread these few days. But I still had no idea on how to start. Which brand should i go? If i go for meguiars, where can i get it and which product should i go for?

A: You can go for Meguiars, Mothers, Duragloss, 3M, Sonax or any other established brands, even soft99 would be a good start, just to get to know the products and their usage. I would suggest Duragloss if you're looking for value for money and don't mind to spend a little bit more than the 'normal' off-the-shelf local brands. You can google and find the local on-line seller

I plan to polish and wax with hand. Is that ok? and must use sponge to do it? or Microfibre cloth is enough? and will the hand polish and wax cause more swirl mark?

A: By hand is fine, as long as you can afford the time and strength to do it, cuz it's gonna get *very* tiring if you plan to finish one whole car. Oh...and sounds like you'd need to do more reading up and get more info on polishes, wax, etc. and how to use them. Try google for videos/youtube on polishing and waxing. Meguiars do lots and lots of informative videos on them and it's a good place to start.

And what product should I get for rim cleaning? Its was super dark and thick with dirt. Normal car wash will just get the cloth become dark and not clean at all. Hard to remove.

A: I think you're referring to those stain caused by brake dust, etc. If you haven't 'properly' wash them from start, you'd need something stronger but safe to 'properly' clean them. In your case, I would suggest something like Megs Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner or Sonax Xtreme Acid-Free Wheel Cleaner or the like. Use a soft bristle brush to agitate or microfiber cloth to clean them. Next wash should be easier and you can use any all purpose cleaner.

Beside, how to clean and polish the car engine? and use the wax or interior cleaning product to rub over it? can wash with water? Anyway to do it?

A: This would largely depends on what car. Normally it'll be quite safe to water-wash Japan/Korean cars' engine. You might need a 'degreaser' but normal all purpose cleaner can do the job as well. You can opt to dress the plastic/rubber parts with a rubber/plastic dressing or a dedicated engine dressing like the one Megs has in their product line-up. Again, plenty of youtube videos on this and plenty of guides online.

What about windscreen? I notice that some of the rain repellent will cause damage to the wiper and what is rain x? and any product that i can use so that it does the water repellent effect?

A: The only way any rain repellent (those branded ones la) could cause damage to the wiper is if you use/apply it wrongly. They wouldn't risk coming out with something that's damaging or else they would be faced with plenty of law-suits. I'm fond of RainX as well....works very decent and cost effective.

So far these are my question. Hopefully all the sifu can help me out of this. Sorry for bad English and thanks in advance.

Hrrrmm...they used to. I guess they didn't bring them in again....

But I found that using a stiff tooth brush or those nylon brushes that you can get in hardware store also worked...not the same or as good but they do work....

It most probably would. Bt if got stain & spots which can't wash off then the coating isn't doing that well anymore....
