Hi All Sifu, my n2 recently encounter SDS. Upon checking by samsung service centre, confirm need motherboard replacement. Phone is 14months old.

My question is:
1) Rm700 and only 1 month warranty, worth fixing?
2) Chances of encountering similar issue again?
3) Go for 3rd party phone service, only rm500 3 months warranty.

Many Thanks

1) Buy new only RM700
2) Slim
3) Don't fix it anymore

Verdict: Sell your back casing, sell your LCD+Digitizer+Glass

Thanks for reply guys. I bought nexus 5 but thinking repairing and give to family.

Buy new for RM700? Pls enlighten me?

How much can i get by selling back casing, LCD+Digitizer+Glass+other components?

Any takers for my dead note 2? verified by samsung service centre... only need motherboard replacement. cry.gif

May I know whether your phone freeze more often before sds or just sdsed without any warning?
And is ur n2 running 4.1.1?

Prior to SDS. There is a few signs.

1) I just notice my phone more laggy den usual, i tot its laggy cause more apps and data installed (3 weeks).
2) One day i notice my phone is bit hot. (Heat when you play high graphic game like RR3), I wasnt running any app in background.. end process but still same so i restart den it was fine (1 day).
3) A day before SDS, the phone shut down itself. I plug into power plug and switch on again. Work like charm.
4) SDS day, after work.. while doing gym, i check whatsapp a little in between session and next thing i knew. Its DEAD!
5) Took to Samsung service centre which is a stone throw away. Confirm SDS. Need motherboard replacement.
6) Yes if not mistaken it was on custom rom 4.1.1.
7) Phone is well taken care. No power bank charging and no charging while using. Sometimes i even off phone or switch to airplane mode for charging. No water damage. Dropped 2-3 times with rubber case but low impact (last was 6 months ago)

Bad luck:( Any one else can share their experience?

I seriously wouldn't say that the SDS 'fix' is even a confirmed fix. It's more like a stopgap band aid - what it does is try to stop or at least lessen the corruption from happening. Even than it only does so at the kernel level, NOT during CWM which is bootloader level (unless your CWM comes with a fix too).

In short, it slows the corruption down. It doesn't really stop it outright especially if you flash a lot of ROMs or stuff in a version of CWM that is not 'fixed' - which still comes with the risk of corrupting things.

Case in point, my old S3 was 'fixed' the moment the fixes came out, but in the end it died of SDS anyway, requiring a totally replaced mobo.

Hence why I was so desperate to find a unit that came with a 'sane' eMMC out of the box when I was buying my N2, and thankfully I found one on my first attempt.

How do you get a 'sane' eMMC? Checking using the app? I didnt have the chance to do so as i wasnt aware of s3 problem prior of buying n2. Got it 3 days before msia official launch 2012.

You can try to go Pandan Indah service centre. My girlfriend's Note II was hit by SDS too last month and eventually need to replace the motherboard. It costs RM550 and was given 1 month warranty.
Refer to my previous post.
