wonder if little smudge or dust on front element will affect IQ?
*
Smudge will cause flaring to be more prone.

I usually wipe with clean/new lens tissue soaked with 100% alcohol.
That also I slowly wipe to avoid wiping off the coating.

I try not to use those used spectacle cloth as there may be some dust/oil there which you could drag across the lens.

2014 New Year Firework by K_S16, on Flickr

Seems to be that recently Nikon Thread is becoming a bugs macro thread.
No complains from me though, the pics are good.

You went for another round of new year fireworks at the same place?
Wish I could shoot again too... but not this year lol.

anyone else know where to find good view for KLCC at night?

look out point is closed from access forever or?
*
KL Tower.
If you can access the top floor (not observational deck) at night it'll be good.
Note that they only open this pass 7pm on very special occasions.
Unfortunately the petronas towers are in parallel so one tower is blocking the other.

Helipad bar
Similar to KL tower... but I believe there's the Maxis building blocking part of the view.
It's definitely open pass 7pm.... however I believe you need to purchase something or build some relation with the manager for him to let you up there.

Both places above are open air roof tops. Which means they don't have pesky glass to introduce flare. This also means that they're subject to weather. If it gets even slightly windy, the place will be off limits.

Definitely.
However they're not always available all the time, and they're not free haha.

Yeap, the dust you can see with your eyes no problem. Issue is with those you can't see, but only appears when you shine light to the glass =/
Hehe, thanks! Took me years to get those...

Maybe you can try and let me know? Shine with torch or LED. Oh yes, my lenspen does leave micro dust, black ones! Maybe I need to buy new lenspen... might be contaminated, or too old since I rarely use it. And yes my microfiber also quite old d, but rarely used. But then again, i could clean the surface, looks clean to my eyes and the dust can be blown off are the bigger white ones. But those not visible to me can't =/.

I tried to use tape to remove the dust, but then ended up with the tape's residual even worse  sweat.gif

Went online shopping, saw this 2..

Zeiss,
http://shashinki.com/shop/zeiss-microfiber...hs-p-13865.html so expensive!

Matin,
http://shashinki.com/shop/matin-micro-fibe...50mm-p-189.html
and
http://shashinki.com/shop/matin-micro-pock...lue-p-6430.html

Anyone used one of these before?
*
I use lens tissue/paper
Something like this http://www.scientificsonline.com/optical-lens-paper.html
Doesn't leave any lint/microdust and since it is disposable it doesn't collect dust.

I first wrap the lens tissue/paper on a cotton bud as using fingers directly will introduce oil/sweat.
Wipe in a circular manner. From middle to the edges > Dispose. (Don't reuse the lens tissue/paper as it will introduce dust to the middle again)
If there are any smudges, use 100% alcohol (must be 100% to avoid any water residue).
Rinse and repeat.

Well yeah compared the specs side by side the D610 wins, hmm maybe gonna try out both of them first be4 getting in, iinm 6D has no headphone output which sucks alot, well thks alot for the input smile.gif
*
Headphone output shouldn't be a big factor though.
You will probably use an external mic/recorder.
A simple audio spliter will do (one goes to camera, one goes to earphone)

Just too bad I didn't / couldn't bring or use any flash or strobes since that will interrupt the main photog work.

The main photog was Benjamin Von Wong who recently appeared on Digital rev cheap cam challenge.
It was an awesome experience.

local d600 user got this problem?

https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3162305
*
I don't face this issue.
I believe not all D600 have this problem.

Besides, if there really is dust... I'll just get it done at the Nikon Service Centre since I work nearby lol.

Nikon US, they would change your shutter or even give you a D610 as replacement.

Is it recommended to have a cpl attached full time in front of your lens?

Planning to get a filter for my lens, uv filter seems pretty worthless, thinking of just getting a cpl and attach it 24/7
*
Like what everyone said....
Depending on the quality of your CPL, your image may be slightly softer and more prone to colour fringing too.

Hmm, quite true, if I'm getting 1 most probably I'll be getting the BW MRC ones, so not really worry bout image quality.

Bout loss of light, maybe attach it while using it outdoors and indoor i'll remove it then.

Never used a cpl, will it still lose those light when its turned to its weakest effect?
*
Absolutely.
The linear polarizer will always cut light by one stop of any unpolarized light(Basically, the majority of light).
When you turn it, you only vary the amount of polarized light(Monitors, reflections) it cuts.
