QUOTE(coolkwc @ Dec 26 2013, 09:54 AM) Guys, very tempting with prime lens right now. get G.. sharper, faster, colour is nicer. Nikon AF 50mm/1.8D vs Nikon AF-S 50mm/1.8G. RM4XX vs RM7XX Motor vs no motor. For my D3200. bt why not get 35mm 1.8G? (50mm on d3200 is quite hard to shoot really) 35mm is much better (what amduser had been telling me last time bt i still bought 50mm ended up selling away n got a 35mm) if want more bokeh 85mm 1.8G la. |

QUOTE(coolkwc @ Dec 26 2013, 11:58 AM) Thanks alot for ur input, guys. 1. yeah get closer, u get almost similar frame as 50mm bt there's more distortion in subject face and background is abit wider.Ya, i saw AF-S 35mm/1.8G too. May i know what's the main different between 35mm vs 50mm besides focal length? Here i list down for what i know: 1. 35mm just need to stay closer to the object (compare 50mm). 2. DOF for 35mm if greater than 50mm, best for landscape. 3. Bokeh 50mm is better than 35mm, best for portrait. 4. ??? Anymore?? Kindly correct me if i'm wrong. But anyway, if i'm not mistaken, 35mm is DX lens, 50mm i think is full frame, means 35mm effective FL is actually almost same as 50mm also? Price wise, 35mm vs 50mm is almost same, am i right? I stay at JB, still sourcing the best price for lens. Any recommendation? Thanks in advance. 2. er..cant say so. DOF both lens same if subject are framed at same size. bt stop down to f8, all lens can go for landscape bt looks weird if on 35mm or 50mm, since usually landscape, kit lens is good at 18mm. 3. same as above, best portrait lens shud be 85mm i suppose? depends on ur portrait style too la. 50mm on a DX body = 75mm. 35mm on a DX body = 52mm so they are not the same leh. unless u put 50mm on FX body, and 35mm on DX body, then almost similar. |

QUOTE(celciuz @ Dec 26 2013, 01:05 PM) Not bad, looks good too. not sharper arh? hmm.. nvm la. u got many gold ring.. 58mm go grab!I don't think its sharper, ex user of f/1.8D and currently owns a f/1.8G. Actually I regret spending the extra bucks changing to f/1.8G. But to those without a 50mm now, the f/1.8G is a better buy. f/1.8D to f/1.8G, not worth it. I'm on i7-3770K and 16GB RAM with SSD. The rMBP I got is also a quad core... but much slower clock at 2GHz, not sure if i7 or i5 |

QUOTE(celciuz @ Dec 26 2013, 01:41 PM) Based on my experience, err... similar? Haha! 58mm is pain, and image quality not what I expected after pixel peeing at those 100% samples... I still like my 35mm or 85mm more hehe. 50mm I only bring for mobility... in this case I prefer the light and tiny 50mm f/1.8G over the gigantic 58mm. sigma art lens If you can stretch your budget, the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art is nvm i start save money for ff first.. |

QUOTE(celciuz @ Dec 26 2013, 02:02 PM) Those new Sigma is impressive, glad to see a third party like Sigma stepping up their game to put pressure on Nikon! that's why got f-stop and t-stop..As far as I know, the light going through is measured by aperture size, in this case focal length / number. Don't really know how to explain but what I know is the longer the focal length, the bigger aperture as there will be light loss along the barrel before arriving at the sensor. 18/3.5 is brighter because its f/3.5. Take a prime for example, f/1.4 or f/8 brighter? And next is 35mm f/2.8 vs. 200mm f/2.8 is expected to be the same... but as usual they won't and the 200mm tend to be darker due to more light loss along the barrel. |

QUOTE(gunzerdude @ Dec 29 2013, 04:25 PM) lol..if can sure i would like to hands on both before buying.. bt i dno anyone that has 85mm for me to try.. owning both would be a luxury >< im attracted to the 1.4 the 50mm offers.. bt 85mm is a better portrait outdoor lens or head+shoulder shot and vy sharp wide open. life always got dilemma. btw, 999 posts!
