Extension tubes are quite rare, since there's not really a lot of demand I suppose sad.gif

arrr a canon guy asking in nikon thread paiseh tongue.gif

a few of you might know that i love shooting macro, so recently after i saw a few of you post your diffuser for macro set up i decided to get one also.

i bought this.

now facepalm pulak, when i reverse my lens, the focusing distance drops until few cm from the bugs, the the octobox went so far until a lot further than my subject, causing the light unable to hit the subject correctly.

also, i can't get softer light from that octobox, already opted for the largest in size but still the light appears quite harsh. sweat.gif
*
Ahhh, no problems man, we all have the passion for photography what thumbup.gif thumbup.gif
I sort of have the same problem as you haha, as in the diffuser being too long than the lens, especially when I don't use the ET laugh.gif
Perhaps can consider flash brackets? Or a smaller diffuser hmm.gif
I'm not familiar with Canon flashguns, but you should be able to switch the light to disperse right? Can also put down the flashgun's diffuser (if applicable) for extra diffusion hmm.gif

hmm how much would a flash bracket costs? if it's expensive, i think i will invest in light stand those things instead. wouldn't a smaller diffuser create harsher light?

it's yongnuo flash haha, canon's flash is too expensive for me. yeap, i tried putting down those, but didn't affect really much.  hmm.gif
*
Bracket costs around RM100-200 I think, and most are dual flash brackets. Single ones are quite rare I think hmm.gif
Light stands as in those for strobist work?
I wouldn't really recommend them, you will want to travel as light as possible for macro work. The more your gears, the more easy you tire, and also easier susceptibility to handshakes @@

QUOTE(gunzerdude @ Dec 3 2013, 11:40 PM)
Can get for 10 bucks at digicolor nia. Reason your lighting is harsh because all the power is still aiming towards the center of the softbox, you need secondary diffusion at the light source first to better distribute the spread of light.

My softbox pula too short  sweat.gif Since my 90mm on it's own quite long d, after adding teleconverter or ET have to ramp up ISO to maintain short flash duration. doh.gif

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

+1~
The softbox works really well for me, though it sure gets in the way sometimes laugh.gif
Still trying to find a smaller diffuser that provides the same amount of light diffusing haha, will update when I finally find/design one laugh.gif

JUNGLE! Never entered jungle eh, haha. Try my best =p You fly over nice also, we can learn from you  notworthy.gif

I tried, they keep hide inside  mad.gif somehow these small ones are quite human shy, maybe I should try going out at night some day, probly need a torchlight for focus though, haha.

I think I'll try with lower magnification and cropping them, focus stacking seems tough on the field.
*
Haha, just take it slow man, you are doing very good already thumbup.gif
As for shyness, it varies from insect to insect, after shooting for some time, you will know how to approach different kinds of insects~ Ninja skills thumbup.gif

Yeah, will definitely need a torchlight for focus and extra lighting, preferably one that's on the helmet lol, cause it will be very hard to hold your camera and torchlight at the same time nod.gif
Still, do be careful going out at night, bring a friend or two if possible. I almost got rompak yesterday night lol @_@

As for focus stacking, its not as hard as you think haha, Photoshop is quite smart one, as long as you don't sway too much, or the insect doesn't move, you'll still be able to get the shot happy.gif

QUOTE(QiAnG @ Dec 4 2013, 12:35 AM)
Thanks bro, not really satisfied though, still very far away from your level  blush.gif Will keep trying hard and improve my lighting as well.

Thanks for the ID too, haha, and the encouragement  rclxms.gif

Yep, I think other than my 1st batches of macro, lately ones are all not from my house garden de, normally I take a walk around the neighborhood then stop when there's some foliage and look look see see, my garden hardly has any rare bugs
*
Gambateh haha, I am still learning also, most of my shots don't have the "feel" laugh.gif Cause I am not patient enough to sit and wait for something to happen XD at my stage, quantity > quality hehe XD Its very interesting to be able to see new insects with each outing~

Good that you are shooting outdoors, just be careful ya, always turn around to check your back every once in a while... we are in Malaysia anyway haihs icon_rolleyes.gif

Nice try bro~ notworthy.gif notworthy.gif
Which model are you using ya?
I think the shot might be better if taken from the front, where all the numbers are sharp~
Can try taking the shot outside too, since most people prefer taking indoors laugh.gif
Its amazing how much sunlight can improve a photo, can try it out yo icon_rolleyes.gif

Anyone seen a Spitting Spider before? laugh.gif

user posted image
Scytodes pallida by PF T.J., on Flickr

Found this on the fence at night.
This particular group of spiders is one of the most spectacular, since they catch their prey by spitting web from their mouthparts. The action is so fast that its invisible to our eyes. Damn impressive!
Can't wait to photograph a photo of its hunting or spitting laugh.gif

One thing I love about macro is I can shoot anytime, anywhere I want lol... there's always interesting things to shoot laugh.gif
Definitely an eye-opener for me~

I hope to be able to shoot some portraits again once more once I have the time haha laugh.gif Shoot something else for a change

Wah, shot with 24mm bro? Taking landscape shots and found these mushrooms along the way? laugh.gif

I think the shot could use a lot more bokeh haha hmm.gif But nothing much you can do la if you only bring one lens, I always face this problem too, and missing shots laugh.gif

I wish I can go somewhere exotic for travel.

My last pack of spams for today.
Series of me observing this orange hornet and an unknown bug at the last.

Great photos as usual man notworthy.gif
Love #1 and #4!
Imho, these particular batches of photos could just some slightly higher exposure.
#1 will be awesome if you can add some artificial sunlight to the upper right corner thumbup.gif
The bug in #4 should be a stilt legged fly too, but I've never seen a yellow one, awesome! notworthy.gif

btw, I need ways to repel mosquitos eh, today I tried long sleeves and long pants, in the end they went for my face and neck, I was like dafuq and straightaway abandon that area ==

Luckily still found some nice subjects at another mosquitoless area
*
Awesome shots bro, especially #2! notworthy.gif
That's a Plexippus paykuhli (Greater Housefly Catcher) spider. I've seen a lot of these in Penang, but not even one here in PJ, weird doh.gif
You are on the way already yo hehe~
These shots are very well taken, but could benefit more from better diffused light, which will decrease the harsh shadows casted by the leaves.
Maybe can crop a little bit more and also brighten the shadows using LR~
You're doing great, keep it up! notworthy.gif

As for mosquitoes, I apply mosquito repellent (which is pretty much useless based on my experience) haha, I wear long sleeve, long pants, and gloves (very annoying and itchy when they sting your hands while you are shooting) XD

QUOTE(coolkwc @ Dec 5 2013, 10:31 PM)
Sad, today i found dust on the focus point area, i open up the lens the dust still remained, so i assume is inside the viewfinder. How can the dust enter that area? i din open the lens since i bought the cam, and store in drawer after used. i gooogle and seems this problem is common. What should i do now? send back to shop for warranty/cleaning? the dust is really irrritating, i can't accept even it won't affect the pic quality.
*
Same here, I have one big spot inside the VF @_@
I suspect it got there while doing sensor cleaning lol, have to bug Yannick to help get it out...
Although its quite annoying... but at least it will become OOF when I use the VF laugh.gif

Applies also to macro yo haha, since we always shoot at F16... one photo still okay haha, but when all of them are like that, there will be risks of missing some of those damn spots sad.gif
Hope yours will be cleaned well and soon!

Are they underexposed? I'm curious because some also suggest the same.
I know that feel bro. Haha! Worse, if I use healing tool in LR, my laptop will freeze up. vmad.gif
Core i5?! Hmmpph!
*
Did you lower the brightness of your notebook screen while you did your editing bro? haha laugh.gif
I think the 1st shot has very good potential to better by increasing exposure, up a bit of yellow, and add a little bit of artificial sunlight wub.gif

Yeah, my notebook will lag too when the healing or brush tool is used too much on a single photo T_____T

Another great set of photos bro notworthy.gif notworthy.gif
Love shots #2-#4. Subjects are good, lighting and composition are well thought of too thumbup.gif

I think the spider in #1 is eating something, maybe can take some shots too, upclose ones? hmm.gif

As for ID, its a bit hard from the current angle haha, usually for ID shots you have to take photos like the one below, so that all the features and patterns can be seen clearly:
user posted image
Spider- Menemerus fulvus ♀ (Grey Housefly Jumper) 2 by PF T.J., on Flickr

However, #2 and #3 is a crab spider, they are quite easy to tell based on their (i) eye arrangement of 2 rolls (2 on top, 6 below); (ii) their 1st and/or 2nd pair of legs will often "spread out" like seen in your photo; (iii) their movements, crab spiders move sideways like crabs haha, hence the name... very interesting laugh.gif

Keep it up!
There's always new insects/spiders to see everyday hehe~~
