How about setting up a special bump button when editing the first post?

Traders in the Garage Sale / Bulk forum keep bumping their threads (which is allowed), but a user would have to scroll through pages of "bumps" before reading something useful.

With this "bump" button, the thread will be promoted to top, and it can only be done by the thread starter. No new post is added.

I thought eventhough u dont actually type anything, after u click edit and save the thing it would show up on top?

Last I tried, editing won't promote your thread Maybe a special "Bump!" button can do the trick And its easier for traders, too!

good idea... perhaps click a "bump" buttons then will bring up the post, is better than keep posting with bump words which will waist the lowyat server resources... so in the 1st post can include some records when is the last few bumps by thread starter, i think the topic will look neat rather than full of "bump" words...

Hmm, but will the seller abuse it ? Should include the limit of the bump button to be clickable for each day. Some abusive sellers, might abuse it by bump their threads more than once in a day.

Have a limit to the click.
Maybe like 2 times per day.
Then it will become a real strategy bumping game, hehe..

I thought this feature is originally available for all IPBs? There was a forum I went to last time, there's an option to bump up users' own threads under the Moderation Options. But there was no limit though..

People can use the not-yet-exist-bump and then after a while when his thread goes 2nd page... he type something..

I suggest that, create a special BUMP button only for the thread starter itself... so other poster won't able to abuse the BUMP button...

The current bump button is visible to all member. Is it better to only visible to thread owner?

This is so members will be aware a bump button exists, some people are... visualy impaired (among other handicaps).

Visible to all members but can oni bump for your own trade thread not other ppl..

What about putting the BUMP! button to the top of the page?

Something like this.
[BUMP] [ADDREPLY] [NEWTOPIC] [NEWPOLL]

Reason is normally when user wanna bump his/her topic, then no need to scroll all the way down to click on bump.
