i dont feel there's any real difference between the two academically.

the scores are based on the entirety of all courses offered, unless it specifically compares the exact schools u're looking into.

the top school for mechanical engineering might reside in one of the worst universities in the UK. so my suggestion is, look into the school's rating rather than the university's.

No disrespect to Azarimy, both are Russell Group universities, so I would advice you to take whichever is ranked higher OVERALL.

Employers in England do look at these league tables and they tend to favour grads of higher-ranked unis.

wait a tick. russel group universities are a group of universities that work in collaboration and exercise a sort of pooling of resources focusing on research and development. in my understanding, being russel group does not imply that it's better than others, but it simply means they are better funded, especially on the post-grad level.

i'm just taking an example of my course (architecture). the best and most reknowned school is the AA (architecture associate) in london, but it's not even a university, hence it's not in any university ranking whatsoever. i'm pretty sure there are other faculties of other courses similar to this, hence my earlier statement .

if he is sure he wants to be an engineer ------- look at the mechanical engineering league table
if he is unsure of what he wants to do ---------- look at the overall table and go for the best one you can get into.

For internationals, $$$ and grades. Schools usually hand out more offers than there are places available, that way they can ensure that all places will be filled up when school starts.

As in your case, I suppose the teacher reference made that difference.

the sheffield system is quite now and have not been adapted by the general academic community. heck, i came to realize that it's not even entirely used in sheffield, just on certain courses that have different emphasize on education. the system is conducted for courses that require experience and vocational rather than reading.

other courses not using this system uses the standard CGPA system which u accumulate from 1st year to the final year.

1. Make like a dozen copies of your recent photograph. You only need 1 for visa, but good to have extra when you reach there or something.
2. Make sure your passport is valid for another 6 months i think.
3. Fill out the sections of the VFS form that you know, don't go there with an empty or half empty form.
4. For financial docs, just throw everything in, RM300k shown should be able to get you your visa with no hassles/interviews. Also don't forget to get your financial docs certified and such.
5. Go there early! Like around 7.30am wait outside and queue for the place to open at 8. If you're lucky you can be done by 9.
6. Enjoy whatever time you have left with friends/family.

Actually 100k is ok, so shouldn't really be a problem.

If your mum/dad is sponsoring you, get a sponsor's letter and they can sign it (you usually type it yourself). Also, to get your documents certified, you bring 3 months bank statements showing you had rm100k or whatever in there, go to the branch manager or someone with that line of power and ask him to certify a copy of those statements. =)

you will need to bring along the original copy of bank statement, which mean the bank statement has it's bank logo or name. if not, you need to bring to the bank, tell them your bank statement need to certified... the bank offier will know what to do. usually they will hand to their supervisor and the supervisor will put the bank stamp and he/she will sign on it.. this is what we call certified. it's mean the bank statement is confirm and certified from the bank.
But if your mom or dad or anyone who going to sponsor you to future studies, if they got any Fixed-deposite, u can just submite the FD along (but you will need to make a photocopy on the FD). it's another way to proof the finiancial document.

No, your visa doesn't require you to have an airline ticket, but to collect your airline ticket you must have your passport and firm offer letter with you. (So don't go and give the visa people your passport and at the same time go and collect your air ticket)

For visa photographs, they should have white background, and only 1 copy is needed.

Btw how come applying for visa so late? When does your uni start?
