erm, i'd like to ask...is it too late for me to apply to any of the Unis in the UK? 30th June's the closing date I know but I'm worried that places in Unis are filled by now. sigh.... been procrastinating due to heavy workload at work..now that i've resigned i'm finally free to to all these..UPU's results are out but i'm not that keen to go..so erm, help please? I'm so dead...

oh..with 3A- and a B+, do I stand a chance to get into Pharmacy at any UK Unis?
*
I'm afraid that you'll need to go for the next round of application(intake 2007). Pharmacy is a competitive course, most if not all universities would have had a complete file since january or so.

Science and engineering graduates are allowed to stay back a year to do an internship or whatever. However, once the one year is up, you MUST leave the country unless a company sponsors your work permit.

No, it is not easy to get a job in the UK. In order to get a work permit, your employer must submit evidence that you are the only one suitable for the job, you are the only one qualified for the job. Mind you, it is not an easy process. Why?

Firstly, you're an international which means there mustn't be a local or an EU citizen suitable for the job in order for you to be hired. You can be sure that there will be locals and EU citizens who are exactly like you or better than you. So why you?
Secondly, you're not the only international student in let's say Sheffield. There are lots of international students who are intellectually your equal and there are many who are smarter than you too. So why you?
Thirdly, Sheffield is a good university, but when we consider other universities, in the same league as Sheffield and a league above Sheffield, you sure get one darn big group of capable internationals, locals and EU citizens. So why you?

Like it or not, some companies are prestige conscious and only go for famous universities. In the UK, the famous ones are Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial, LSE, UCL, King's and a few more. If you're not from one of the above, you will find it hard to make it into the shortlist.

18k ~ 19K ?
cost for the 1st 2 years in malaysia ?
if i take 3+1 degree programme, how much it's gonna cost me at the oversea? ( tuituion fees, visa, cost of living and everything)
*
It won't hurt you if you display some resourcefulness. Don't you know that there is something called 'the homepage of the university'?

As a guide, expect fees to be roughly GBP11k-9k per year for an engineering degree at charter universities. Living cost, GBP500-600 a month outside London. To be safe, have at least RM120k-100k per year.

how if i work there to support myself? how much cost that i can cover by myself?
means that my family jz need to pay for the tuition fees only?

part time......You can only work 20 hours a week during term time. However, it is unlikely that you're able to work 20 hours a week. Don't you need to study? Don't you need to attend classes? Your classes start at 9 and ends at 5 or the earliest 3, do you go straight to work after that? No assignments? No projects? Weekends? Are you going to work for the whole day, don't need to clean your room? cook? study? Won't you be tired since your weekdays last from 9am to 9pm?
You should be proud of yourself if you can complete 10 hours.

I think the minimum pay per hour is GBP7 or so.

How much would one football match ticket cost, approx?
Also, what are the places in Europe that you would recommend to a student?
*
EPL match tickets are usually sold out, thanks to season pass holders. If you really want to catch a match, you can get tickets from the black market.........which is not worth it since the price may go up to like GBP300.

Try division 1,2,3 or conference................................

i've been through customs in heathrow back in 2003. they just picked me at random, and asked what's in my luggage. i told them "clothings, toiletries, some instant food, PC..."

"u mean a laptop?" the customs officer asked.

"no. a PC."

"please open up."

so i opened and showed her the content of my bag. a full PC with everything included. with 15" lcd monitor. she was like "riiight...". and then she asked again "dont seem like u packed enough clothing."

so i had to take off the casing of my PC and revealed the insides packed with neatly folded and rolled shirts, undies and whatnot.
loved the expression on her face.

no big deal actually. they know u're a student, u'll be in the country for quite awhile. usually they tend to be very helpful and polite. especially at 6am in the morning.

How did you do that?

well, as u know, a PC is virtually just a casing with lots of empty spaces. fold or roll all the clothes as small as possible, and jam it into every possible orifice... err... space inside it. notice that u can put in more stuff into it if u roll ur clothes rather than folding it.

it kinda looked like stuffed crab.

if i do that again, i'll take a picture.

I should try when I fly.

I don't think it is only meant for US and UK bound students. It's a good read for all who are going overseas.

anyways, i have a question

What are the odds of settling htere after getting a degree, letss ay an engineering. Will they employ malaysian to work?
*
If you want a good pay and a good standard of living, try other countries. UK is not the best place to settle down.

It is possible to get a job but the job that you'll get won't be something to die for.

Erm.. sorry i'm a bit blur regarding this. from the link u provide, it states engineer require 2 years working exp to get a work permit.

then, under  SEGS - Science and Engineering  Scheme, if graduate with second class honours (2.2) or higher can stay in UK for a year. So, if during that period i manage to work in the engineering related field till the given term is finished. This means i cannot either stay or apply for worK permit? due to i dont have enough working experience (just work till about a year only)  arang-arang  doh.gif

Or as long as my employer agree to sponsor me, then i can still work in UK for the remaining time. But is this kind of work permit same as the work permit that u showed us? sweat.gif  (need two years working exp one).

Thanks in advance

QUOTE(Geminist @ Aug 12 2006, 07:28 PM)
The SEGS scheme is introduced for graduate (science/engineering) to stay for another year here in the UK. You can work for one year anywhere in the UK without restriction with the permit. Before the one year is up, your employer will need to apply a working permit on your behalf smile.gif

Yeah. If your boss decide not to hire you, you have to return to Malaysia.

Get your lappies over there, better support and coverage.

No pirated console games. Very expensive for us to get the original ones.

ISIC. Get it as soon as possible. You'll save a big sum when it comes to air tickets. Basically, travel fares.

As for the suit, you can make it here or BUY it there.

For laptop wise, i suggest you get it in Malaysia! Especially during pc fair because you can get better offer (FREE STUFFS) that might be useful and it would be expensive to get them in UK. Get a camera here cause you'll see lots of different building structure in UK!

*
If anything happens to the laptop, it may take up to 2 months or so to get your laptop back.

2 months without a computer is horrible.

i went to the EducationUK earlier this month, the tuition fees is around £10000 ~ £11500 for postgraduate studies. that would be around RM80000 ~ RM90000 for the whole programme.

as for expenses, i never got the chance to ask about it, but i managed to get a few of prospectus of various universities.

this is what i get from Univ. Of Manchester's prospectus which the postgraduate total estimated living expenses for 2006/2007 session:

duration : 51 weeks.

Accomodation(Self-Catered) : £3700
Meals(Self-Catered) : £1600
Books : £410
Clothes : £410
Transport : £400
Other Expenses : £1500

TOTAL : £8160

and of course, this is just a rough figure and definitely depends on your lifestyle. So if you count it, it's around £680 per month. Hope this helps. And yeah, just to notify, according to this prospectus, the cost of living in Manchester is cheap when compared equally to other major cities in UK such as Birmingham and Nottingham, but are less expensive than London. Anyway, good luck for your studies.

Are you sure about this figure?

the calculations on the figure isnt that correct tho. i just estimated £1 = RM8 while the true value is around RM6.97 or RM7.

but the above estimation, i just copied it down from the book. And yeah, i've mentioned put a condition there, those are merely rough budgets, it will still depend on your lifestyle.
*
Tuition fees does not depend on one's lifestyle.

So, are you sure that the fees are £10k+ for the a postgrad degree?

Sheffield or Sheffield Hallam?

Yes, most likely. You'll be spending two years in the UK.
