don rub salt into my wound cry.gif cry.gif  doh.gif  yawn.gif  ohmy.gif  i reli wish to go. so got any pretty gals going imp that u notice? tongue.gif tongue.gif

btw yeah i receive my letter dy. i'll be at falmouth hall (southside). twin sharing en suite tho. u? single or twin? Fisher hall is how far from south kensington campus? LOL....anyway yea i'm taking MEng 4 year course. Urs is MEng for postgraduates or the undergrad version?
owh so monthly...GBP25 cry.gif how much u spend for food per month anyway? and do u cook or eat out? oh ya...ur HP ur using pre- or postpaid?
*
My spending varies each month but should be around £300 I guess. However, I don't drink nor smoke and I cycle to work as well. I eat out two times or so a week.

I use a pre paid mobile because chatting on the phone is the last thing I like to do. It cost me about £10 a month. However to be fair, I also have a company mobile phone so I make some of my calls from my phone.

dont worry. they wont look for medical report. they dont look at the x-ray for detail as well, they just want you to have it, in case they want to look into it.
Thanks for your replies! biggrin.gif

Hi all, I would like to ask..

Q1) Will it be ok if I dun hav the medical report/ Chest X-Ray since they won't see?

Q2) How long will they granted a postgraduate student to stay at UK? length of the course + 4 month?

Q3) Can I put the multifunction knife and a small screw driver set in the check in luggage?

Q4) Can I bring the photostat version textbook inside my luggage?

Thanks ^^

at 2k in the savings account your looking at nearly 10quid a month on interests alone .. thats 1 crate of free guiness my friend(with 2 pounds to spare on a bottle of woodpecker haha) . how can you miss out on that ;p

*
I checked the Premier interest. Credit interest in current account is 0.1% up to £10,000. Premier saving account interest is 3.2% for £50,000.

Based on that:
2K in Premier Current AC gives you £0.17 per month interest.
2K in Premier Saving AC gives you £5.33 per month interest.

I don't see how you can get £10 per month hmm.gif

If I want to open a bank account at Lloyds, what are the necessary documents that I should have? Money of course tongue.gif which is a bank draft addressed to me, passport, anything else?

I have an auntie in UK and she told me that I should bring 6 months bank statements of all my bank account here as well as a letter from the bank (erm I don't really understand what the letter should be about, something like confirming that I'm their customer etc) which sounds complicated so I would like to confirm here. Please enlighten me on this matter, thanks!

if you want to earn money via interest, put your money into saving account or ISA and don't touch it. you can get abt 5% annually.

Added on September 9, 2008, 4:45 pm

only applicable to visitor on visitor visa only.

and the queue at airport is always long.

beside you have to tell the seller that you want to claim vat for that item when you pay too.

i thought ISA only for the locals there? nt for us(foreigners) rite?

1) its better if you bring so. here i quote from VFS-uk-my (http://www.vfs-uk-my.com/where.aspx)

"Due to the standard of health care here in Malaysia we do not insist on a formal medical check before an entry clearance is issued. However, Paragraph 36 of the UK Immigration Rules states that on arrival in the UK any person who intends to remain for more than 6 months should normally be referred to the Port Medical Inspector for a medical examination (queues can be long ). Additionally, an ECO has discretion to refer any other person for an examination if necessary.

If you intend to stay more than 6 months you may therefore wish to have a medical check-up shortly before you travel and carry the examination results and a chest X-ray with you. "

2) Not sure bout this. some one else might answer for you. smile.gif

3) you can bring knife or other sharp materials as long as its in ur check in luggage. you MUST NOT bring them in your hand carry luggage or in ur pocket. smile.gif

4) I think its fine. tongue.gif but better check with the others

1. don't take things for granted. get an x-ray at least, which cost you for less than rm20 only.

2. depends, from length of course + 1 month up to 4 months max.

3. yes you can. never in hand carry luggage.

4. better not. copyright issue has been huge in this country. anything copied beyond 5 pages w/o authority can be considered as copyright infringement. there should be problem of bringing it in, but you will be embarrassed to use pirated copy in front of your coursemate/friend. (just my opinion)

- passport
- proof of address
- university acceptance letter
- bank letter (if the bank require it and your uni does provide it). a bank letter is a letter from your uni to your bank stating that you are their student with an home address on it and relevant detail.

money is compulsory. biggrin.gif

If I need the university acceptance letter, does it mean that I can only open a bank account after I've registered in uni? I think the offer letter is not the acceptance letter right? Correct me if I'm wrong. My university induction week starts only a week after I arrive and I read from their website and letter that registration only starts on the first day of induction week..

acceptance letter can be the offer letter. that is why some banks want the so called bank letter in addition, to show that you are already there, ready to be enrolled, as you can only get it from the uni during the induction week.

No I don't think u'll need a reference letter from a bank.
Just have your passport, a 'bank letter' from your uni to confirm your address and that you're a student there, and your money ready smile.gif

i think you only need show your or your parents/sponsor bank statement has the amount of the money, should be sufficient.. but if you are using your parents/sponsor bank statement, you better get a letter state that they are going to sponsor your tuition fees to be safe side.

yes, 3 in 1 milo and instand mee you can bring over here. but i would say buy instant mee over here, as nowadays instant mee in malaysia is quite expensive right? i think you can buy instand mee from those chinese shop in city centre.. it cost around 25-30p per pack. if you are going to big city like london, birmingham, newcastle, leeds etc, you have more option to buy instant mee. i not sure for others place..

oh..icic...and one more thing is that instant mee is not easy to handle as it is very 'fragile' laugh.gif
