for example, search enquiry that is less than 4 letters cannot be used.. this makes some items such as "v3i".. "L7".. Pentium "M" "HP", etc.. cannot be searched.. you get the point..

I've read that page some time ago already.. but what I want to say is that why bother to do so much steps to get to the result..? Sometimes I even get unwanted results with the built-in search.. for example, I want to search for Motorola V3i.. searching for "v3i" wouldn't work so I typed in "motorola*v3i" to get the search engine to recognise the "v3i".. then the results shows everything that contains the word "motorola" instead of things related to "v3i" only.. I know in the end we do get our search results, but why bother taking so much steps? Just curious..

The reason for this limitation in the forum (Invision Power Board (IPB)) is because it uses MySQL's (the database) 'fulltext searching' function to supposedly be able to offer quicker and more accurate results. Did you really read it?

You should use the '+' keyword in front of v3i to force search engines to only include results that have v3i in it.
