QUOTE(refnulf @ Dec 12 2013, 03:54 AM) Just got the SSD? I'll have to move my M4 to the new machine after I get it. Don't think I need a new one yet. Then gotta spend a butt load on ram again. imho 16Gb is more than enough for a normal user plus heavy gamer... unless you're using some special tools or running VMs or something which requires a lot of RAM. I would suggest you to save money and just use the 16GB you will get with your M17.

QUOTE(horns @ Dec 18 2013, 01:21 AM) yeah. i hope to see better applications of the technology but it's really not that useful for now. by the way, after a few months with .ac router, intel 7260 is stable. (fluctuating between 433 to 866.7 mbps; no disconnection) [attachmentid=3773683] what router are you using?

QUOTE(horns @ Dec 26 2013, 08:18 PM) yeah.. :/ cooling is key for high-performance gaming laptops. to have efficient heat dissipation, you need good fans, larger heat sinks, but most if not all, plenty of space to have good airflow and to house a better cooling system. Agreed

QUOTE(horns @ Dec 27 2013, 10:54 AM) weird stuff: w8.1 activation seems unstable. when you put the laptop to sleep for some times then wake it up, sometimes it shows that w8.1 is not activated. you can observe that the windows version and build number at the lower right corner of your desktop. once you're connected to the internet, it's back to the activated status. again, you can back up the activation tokens with atm after w8.1 activation WITH PHONE (must be activated with phone; it doesn't work with online activation; this is for w8.1 only). the best practice to me is to install a fresh copy of w8.1; install all drivers; activate through phone; back the tokens up. Edit: if you wanna have bios windows fastboot working, stick to w8. w8.1 fastboot doesnt work well in my case even if i had a13 bios. thanks for suggestions. I still haven't updated to windows 8.1 lol. I might do it after 2 months or 3. Super busy these days.

QUOTE(horns @ Feb 28 2014, 07:47 AM) Lol! How're the new stuff that you've installed? Please share with us Intel 7260Ac adapter installed already with the latest drivers from intel download center. I lost one screw out of those 7 screws, yea the big 7's I hope I can find a replacement at a PC shop. I will setup netgear nighthawk today! Will surely give my review on both items after testing them

QUOTE(horns @ Feb 28 2014, 10:21 AM) imo the older drivers for 7260ac works better with my .ac router at home (full 867mbps almost always). hahaha! it's better to keep the screws in organized manners in a container with compartments (and don't do it on your bed) Hmmm I might ask you the lunk for the older drivers then if the newer one doesn't impress. I will be setting up the router at evening today.

QUOTE(dark_axl21 @ Mar 7 2014, 02:37 PM) Anyone knows where to get spare fan for the discontinued Alienware M15x laptop? Might I add that the warranty is dead for a few years too. The fan just died like yesterday, hardly spinning as no air can be felt at the end of the vents, exactly opposite for the right side, which is constantly spinning at 4k - 4.7k RPM. And by looking at HWiNFO, sometimes the fan for CPU isn't displaying any monitoring data, even if it is, it is only less than 1k RPM. And the overheating is causing they system to auto shutdown once it reaches 100 degrees, even without any major game play, it's pretty much stuck at a reading of 90 degrees. Still waiting for Dell to send me a quotation price for the fan, but for the time being, I'm also looking for alternatives. "Reviving" the warranty is gonna cost me RM990 Thanks find on ebay and get it shipped. I would suggest you to replace both the fans also replace thermal compound too after cleaning. This will solve your problem (y) P.S. you can also check on taobao.com. If you find it thr.. you can get it shipped from china through taobao agents on LYN. Shipping from China is cheap. QUOTE(horns @ Mar 7 2014, 05:06 PM) .. or you can send a pm to putochip123. mansooriqbal, i have tested this: for aw, you literally do not need thermal paste for cpu and the cooling is as effective. heh. Didn't try that. But I notice after re pasting after almost 2 years, my GPU and CPU temps both of them got a LITTLE better. Also I don't mind buying a good thermal paste and re pasting seeing the notebook itself costs a lot.. And I am out out of warranty so it's more of a self service thingy lol.
