LOL, and I thought it reached a saturation point already... doh.gif

At this rate, need to consider import RAM from china or taiwan already...

Hi guys. Am new in building a gaming rig for myself. So just now went to PC shop to check out these items based on staff recommendation (except for CPU which i personally chose)

CPU: AMD FX-8350 = RM679
GPU: Sapphire Radeon 7790 = RM488
RAM: Apacer 8gb x 1 = RM240
MOBO: Asus M5A78 = RM170
PSU: Coolermaster 550w = RM289
HDD : WD Caviar Black 1TB = RM199
Casing : Coolermaster something something = RM169

I do a very small amount of video editing. I'm much into gaming like Dota 2, Bioshock Infinite, L4D2, Skyrim. was very particular about spending too much money on pc rigs, until i felt my laptop was shit for gaming sweat.gif

For display, I've been thinking of using Toshiba HD READY LED LCD TV - 29P1300VM instead of a monitor. I realize that buying a tv is cheaper than the monitor itself :/ but what do u guys think about power consumption? And how about resolution? Im not that picky about how much detail u can have but would expect it to give enough justice for the GPU im using. thinking of using 1080p all the way.

and then, I was a bit surprised about price of windows 7 OS. It will cost rm400++. I wonder if there are better prices out there?
*
Any explanation on why don't just settle with i5? The price different is actually very minimal...

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-4670K-vs-AMD-FX-8350

And as for the GPU, why not get a GTX650TI Boost? It is also less than RM50 more (check out Leadtek GTX 650TI Boost), but the performance is actually quite a lot better.
user posted image

As for the PSU, I note sure what model of CM are you getting, but a cheap RM150 FSP Hexa 500W is more than enough for your specs listed (and the specs I suggested).

Also, you sure caviar black only RM199? hmm.gif

As for the OS, there should be ppl in Garage Sale selling OEM version of it at cheaper price. Else, you can always jack sparrow modify trial version it... whistling.gif

hi! thanks for explanation. About the CPU, I opt for the 8-core one because I heard that for video editing purposes its better if i have more cores for the editing software to utilize. I'm not too concerned of marginal performance difference, or even if using an i5 has significant difference, i guess im okay with the 8350 because it can still handle stuff well. Basically, im really sold for 8350 since months ago just because it has more cores.

thanks for GPU info! That i really don't know how to benchmark. I'll take up on that nod.gif

as for PSU, yeah I'll consider that. About caviar black, that one i dunno lar sweat.gif price movement for HDD x kisah lah.

do u think my Mobo is fine?

ahaha. dun wan naik flying dutchmen lar.. if OEM, does it mean its legit or wat ah? i wan sth that can update. if naik kapal punya xleh update i think.
*
I also not a veteran in CPU but everytime I see when ppl want video editing, the 8 hyperthread of i7/Xeon is more recommendable over i5 (and i5 is normally more recommendable over AMD). BTW, this part better leave for those more professional to answer.

Yeah GTX650 TI Boost is the most recommendable GPU in the RM500+ range.

As even cavier blue already cost RM189 out there, it is impossible for cavier black to be RM199 only... sweat.gif

Mobo need to follow CPU, again, I not sure bout AMD side things... sweat.gif

p/s: Currently using "softmoded" win8 trial version, so far so good, except I hadn't figure out how to update to win8.1, everything else update as per normal.

Hi guys,

I hope this is the right thread. I decided to get myself an Intel Core I-3 3240 (1155) and an AMD Radeon 7770 as part of my rig. But I'm having trouble with the Mobo. Considering to get an Asus P8H61 Mobo because it's cheap. But should i go cheap? Honestly, i have a budget of around RM250 for the Mobo, but do i have to get the best from my budget or shud i just go cheap? N i haven't made up my mind on the power supply. Hoping i can get some suggestions. I wanna use this rig for medium gaming and for work a bit, but mostly for gaming. Don't mind not getting all the ultra graphic options checked out. Help me out. Please and Thank you biggrin.gif

Any mobo should be good enough as long as it can support CPU, RAM and GPU which you are planning to use. More pricy mobo are mainly used for overclocking, dual GPU and so on, which isn't necessary in your case. Just google more about the particular model you are getting, if no significant bad reviews then you are good to go. Also, IMO, 1155 is last gen product already, it isn't worth to spend too much on last gen product.

As for PSU, FSP Hexa 500W is consider as an entry level PSU here to be recommended. At least it deliver decent level of true power. If you plan to further upgrade in the future, then you may consider getting a slightly better PSU such as seasonic 620w.

guys. can i just ask on graphic card specs.

Whats the benefit of the following:-

1. 2GB vs 1GB

2. DDR5 vs DDRxxx

is there a lot of difference if we use 2GB and DDR5?
*
In short, find those with bigger numbers
1. model number
2. bits
3. clock rate
4. GB

How many GB of memory doesn't directly affecting the performance, but more more modern and bigger resolution games start to require more than 1GB of memory, hence try to get yourself at least 2GB.

As for GDDR5, it isn't a concern nowadays as most decent GPU is GDDR5, so no comparison needed.

may i ask something. I saw lots of suggestion for intel i5. why not i7 instead?
*
Because if gaming is your priority, better GPU increase the FPS more than better CPU does, for most of the games.

So except you having 5-6k of budget or also use the rig for design or editing tasks, i5 is more suitable in your situation.

This one ok?

CPU-Intel Core i5-4440-RM574
Mobo-Asrock H81-M DGS-RM179
Memory-Corsair 1x4GB ram-RM124
GPU-GTX650TI boost 2gb-RM449
HDD-WD Blue 1tb-RM189
PSU-FSP Hexa 500w-RM149
ODD-Any dvd player-RM60
Case-CM STORM SCOUT II White-RM349
*
Might want to consider 8GB of RAM.
Pretty sure 650 TI Boost should be RM5xx instead of 449.
Why spent that much on the case for a midrange rig? Might as well cut down on some aesthetic and bump more on performance.

I have a question about cpu. Thru watching this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiml6FxkWHo...DA5B91FFC11D251 I've always wanted to use an 8-core CPU because apart from gaming, i also do a bit of video editing works.

However, after consulting people here n there, everybody is always telling me to go for an i5. Is there any reason if theres any known problem with the FX series?

Intel is reliable, efficient and reasonably powerful.

purpose - home computer that can do most of the task u might need to do + main game without the problem of lag/hang/error/crash etc.

thank you  notworthy.gif

Cut down on the mobo?
Drop the WD black and opt for SSD + WD blue.
PSU get a Seasonic over CM.

No GPU?

Any i5 -4xxx is haswell, which is latest.

Also, that model number, I think you saw an i7.

If you not planning to overclock, a 4440 is pretty fine.

what is the significance of haswell if i may ask?
*
Not really, actually haswell is not significantly better than ivy bridge apart from the bump in integrated GPU.

But since it is the latest offering and ivy bridge is dated, you only have one option - haswell... sweat.gif

this asus mobo is overbuilt? what do you reccommend?
PSU seasonic is nowhere to be found in the area, only found some corsair VS, silverstone etc..
ill consider to drop down the the WD black
GPU is saved for next round of salary.. still undecided of what shud i get..  sweat.gif
*
You can get Asrock mobo that offer more features at a cheaper price. Seriously, ASUS's stuffs (MOBO, GPU and so on) are significantly more overpriced over others in Malaysia. Except you are particularly loyal to Asus, you can try to survey from other brands first b4 asus.

If you are not going to install too powerful GPU in the future, you can get a FSP Hexa 500w for only RM150.

*
Minitor, speaker, windows, keyboards and mouse will most probably took 1k out of your budget already.

The remaining should be as below,
i3 4130 - RM369
Asrock H81M - RM179
Corsair Value Ram 8GB DDR3 1600MHz - RM229
WD Blue 1TB - RM189
Cooler Master K380 Casing - RM149
FSP Hexa 500w - RM149
Lite-On 24x DVDRW - RM59
Leadtek GTX 650TI Boost - RM559

Total = RM1882

If you feel you need more processing power, then forgo GTX650Ti boost and opt for weaker card like 7750/7770 and get an i5.

Go for the cheapest one (normally is Leadtek/Zotac) should do. Asus's card is always overpriced.

hi geng. I was given this specs:-

CPU: Intel Core I5 4670 RM715 (firm want to use this processor)
MOBO: ASrock B85M-HDS RM245  (4 x USB 3.0, 8 x USB 2.0 ) (i think 2 x usb3.0 and 4 x usb 2.0 is enuf)
RAM: GSKill AEGIS 1x8GB DDR3 1600mhz RM265
HDD: WD 1TB Caviar Blue HDD RM195 (i thought can get cheaper?)
Chasis: Bitfenix Prodigy-M Black RM310 (im paying too much for just chasis, any suggestion for chassis with good air flow? Doesnt even have to be branded kaw2. its just a chasis. thinking of going with Aerocool coz looks cheaper)
PSU: FSP HEXA 500W PSU RM149
GPU: Sapphire R7 260X 2GB DDR5 OC RM530 (i still want to use GTX650Ti)
WIFI: Tplink TL-WN881ND RM60
ODD: Liteon 24x Sata DVDRW RM60

I can get a Dell S2340L for RM530. Any areas where i can cut down? I want to keep budget under RM3k.
*
What if I tell you top up another RM64 and you can get a Xeon already? icon_idea.gif (btw, you sure 4670 non k cost that much?)

A value ram should do just fine and cheaper.

Chassis is subjective, just take a look around for other brands. Some sub RM200 case also looks very attractive.

GTX650TI Boost > 260X at only RM530++. Again, take note it is TI Boost, not TI. Both different thing. If you consider lower down a little on your CPU, you can get a R9 270, cheapest one is around RM680 with BF4 bundle IINM.

As for the monitor, if you are entitled for Dell EPP, then get it from here, under RM500.
