I am surprise nowadays the solution architect title had been abused in such.. sad.gif

p/s: sorry no offence to you, it was mainly the company and industry fault.
*
none taken.. but i'm curious. then what does a solution architect do? was it abused only because i am a fresh grad?

well, i'm very lucky in some way coz the rest of my team are aged 30+ with 6-10 years working experience.
i only got the job after my role as project coordinator changed during restructuring and we are forced to take on the solution design part.

Hi,  i did saw your early post, no worry wont do silly things like asking questions here, take it easy tongue.gif

Well, normally when one call himself solution architect, he should actually has a very deep and BROAD knowledge of system architecture. He needs a lot of exposure, hands-on and experiences, eventually in the technical side, ability to integrate business idea into a full fledged system design. He also needs to equipped with strong people skills such as coordination, influencing, leadership, interpersonal etc.

In short, it meant to be a lead/managerial/director level position, most of them have people responsibility (which team leads/seniors reporting to him), with probably at least 5 to 10 years of exposure in IT technical/System design/Integration. In fact these are what similar requirement to reach whatever (true) architect position in IT industry.

For a junior which doing system/solution design, usually a much appropriate title would be system designer/analyst/software engineer/solution consultant (hate to say i do not agree that consultant to be use in junior post as well, but sadly this seems to be the trend too...).

Anyway is good for you to be in the same team with those 6-10 years old birds in such a young age. Work hard and absorb their knowledge, very soon you will become a respectable industry expert! thumbup.gif

thanks for your opinion.. i was lucky to get the boost as i only got this position due to company restructuring... was actually a project coordinator and handling basic project requests like WAN upgrade and admin stuff before i changed to solution architect. but now starting to handle harder projects like Firewall sizing and CLAN / IPT setups and approving mid level designs.. all with the senior colleague's help of coz... and honestly speaking, my 5 month stint as SA has helped me learned much more about IT infrastructure than my 5 years study at the university and im currently taking CCNP smile.gif

btw, my pay is still Project Coordinator's pay.. hope i get a pay rise after the restructuring smile.gif

how is it possible that you are 35 and with 18 years of working experience? That makes you start work at the age of 17 (the age of taking form 5 spm). And still you having your degree.. Can you enlighten me please.

Also I am very impress with your salary at your young age. Bravo...

The salary posted here is unbelievable high. Is this real?? I have worked in 3 MNCs but yet the salary as I know off is not as high as what forumers posted.

This either could mean that I have been duped for so long or it is simply that people are boosting here?
*
well, it IS a forum smile.gif Don't believe everything people says..

I heard that the rate of fresh graduate in the market now is around 3k already?

i believe average would be RM2.4k - RM2.8K.
only those who display more exceptional abilities / from better unis will get RM3k or more...

why not go for a part time degree? Employers will usually look at degree first, experience later in deciding your salary range.

Where are you working atm? Choose somewhere near your workplace if you can't do it full time.
MMU grads are in high demand in IT, it seems...

QUOTE(maskedchan @ Feb 13 2014, 11:51 AM)
i wouldn't say this always the case..
sometime experience more important than degree..
it all depend on which industry you are in..
*
You're right. but in IT, that's usually the case. I'm in IT Infrastructure as well, so I can roughly guess what employers look for.
nowadays, degree is also not enough as there are tons of degree holders in the market. they will look for ppl with CCNA, MCSE, ITIL certs, in addition to an IT degree.

IT support roles is not high.. with 2 year experience and degree maybe around 3.5k in KL? so your company is in Melaka, maybe a bit lower, maybe 2.8-3k?

I would suggest you doing part time in MMU, you can travel back and forth between melaka and KL for weekend classes.

it depend on the firm. different firm will have different policy on allowances. but most of the firm will give outstation allowances, the amount could be range from RM30-RM50, for peninsular Malaysia. if the firm did not give any allowances for outstation, that certainly will have some alternative compensation such as free meal during the outstation period.

During my internship, what i found out is that accounting auditors can claim OT, parking and meal allowance.
IT auditors can only claim parking cry.gif

no dude, every government salary scale has almost similar salary ranged, not much of big difference. Government award those that stay longer. The maximum salary for accounting is at Gred54 (similar to a director) earns 8K++ a month.

In the private sector it highly depend on certain people skills and knowledge. Btw am in the IT field, curiosity is part of it, to defend against sarcastic people in the forum especially that use hindered power knowledge and age factor to defy themselves.  laugh.gif
