To disable unneeded plugins and make them optional instead, follow these instructions:
Install the latest version of Adobe Acrobat - you can get it here
Browse to the plugins folder: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\plug_ins
Create a new folder named Optional
Move all files from the plug_ins folder to Optional, except EWH32.api, print*.api, and Search*.api

That’s it! Load any PDF in Adobe Acrobat to see the difference!

I don't really find Adobe Reader 7 slow, probably because Adobe Reader speed launch is started during windows startup but it's fine to me.

(Adobe Reader 6 was really really slow though sweat.gif)

Also alternatively there's Adobe Reader Speedup http://www.tnk-bootblock.co.uk/software/in...eader%20SpeedUp . It also disables plugins like the method sampride pointed out with a few added tweaks.

And HMMaster have you tried the PDF Download extension for firefox? It allows you to choose if you wanna open pdf files outside firefox.
