Hi all, I just took my first violin lesson last week. Just bought a Samuel Eastman violin for RM700++ including a shoulder rest and fiber glass bow. Its hard to hold the bow, my pinky and thumb doesn't bend into position. anyway, I still like this instruments.

china strings are like rubber bands lol hard and painful to play with.dominant is nice but i find them easily broken compared to Pirastro quality over melody?

i wish my skill will improve after changing teacher... but i think i'm not good enuf... i was told if you are not using good violin.. dun change to Dominant or Pirastro string (high quality string) coz it will not produce nice sound with low quality violin board...
other than correct postures and techniques, practising hard is the key to success!! here's some violin teacher from youtube, if you cannot work with your teacher's method, you can try what they teach. http://www.youtube.com/professorv http://www.youtube.com/benchanviolin good luck!!
im still playing twinkle twinkle little stars....i found out my fingering still very poor and my bowing grip still not correct.... i need more practise leh....tough!!
crabjim 1st few months of learning violin is always tough.in fact its veyr boring for the 1st year but once u get ur basic its all up to u how far u wanna go
Ya, agree..really tough.im practising everyday. I know my intonation is a bit out but my teacher says its quite good. Anyway, Im still not very content with it and I wil surely get myself very involved with this instrument
i saw my next lesson will be double stopping, 5th and octave on open string. sometimes, I still have problem bowing straight. my tutor said my wrist isn't flexible enough. Now she wants me to practise bowing using my wrist only. It still seems impossible for me to do this for the mean time, Im still trying it...
Can I know some of the good teachers that you think they are??? They don;t have to be as 'famous' as Andrea or Nora....As long as you think they are or they should be or they can be the top ones...
I would like to have a good teacher who can give me stress to correct my problem. there's a saying "Strict teacher produce high quality students". anyone can introduce to me?
