Past week or so, whilst surfing on my mobile, i get pop-up ads re mobogenie about 2x a day. Gives option to download or cancel - i always cancel. Tried to find a way to stop the pop-up but couldnt.

Then last nite, mobogenie just downloaded itself without any notice and definitely no permission from me. The DL was so fast i could not stop it.

However, i went immediately to the "downloads" folder and deleted it.

I have googled it but there's not much on it - its an apk file, android manager. 1 site states that it is a scam.

Some sites lauds it as some great app but I detest that it DL itself without consent and am suspicious of those "reviews".

Q:

1. Anyone else encountered this?

2. Is it malware?

3. Have i eradicated it effectively? If not yet, how do i do it?

Tks

I'm pretty sure this is malware, perhaps it just uses the mobogenie name. I was browsing on my android phone and mobogenie 1501.apk appeared in the task bar as downloaded and installed. When I brought up the task manager it was there but disappeared after a split second. It does not appear in the list of installed apps.

I think I'm infected with similar problem. it started with a pop up when I'm browsing using opera for Android. the pop up says that my battery overheat and directly open play store for the app name du battery. even if I tapped cancel. then today, the link changed to mobo genie. the weird thing is already blocked pop by opera.

i thought it should not be able to install itself if "allow 3rd part apps" is unchecked. i normally uncheck this box after installing whatever 3rd party apps i want.

is there any channel that we can complain or report on this apps? i think it has gone too far, self download and installing itself without our consent.

Hi, I came across with the same issue with mobo genie last month. The trick they used was to use the same icon for downloads as their downloader. To remove this:

1. Make sure you have uninstalled mobo genie market.
2. Go to App, and swipe until you see "All" you will see 2 Downloads icon there.
3. The Downloads with no size is the legit one. Keep it, if you long press and select App info you will see that it's something related to your firmware.
4. The 2nd Downloads icon is the culprit, with a version of 2.02xx. Long press it, select App info then uninstall.

Hope this helps.

mobogenie just to put on record... you guys are a real pain... pushing the apk on websites... then hijacking PC browsers...

anyone who thinks such a company is a good company really need to have their head checked. steps to remove mobogenie from a PC is not that different from removing a virus/ malware. so, think about what you are doing!
