Guys, I have a question.
Say I am lifting a barbell.
On the left side it is stacked with 10KG of weight. On the right side, another 10KG.
Would I record it down as lifting 10KG or would it be 20KG?
Same thing with the cables.
If i were to pull 10KGs on the left, and 10KGs on the right,
would i be pulling 10KGs or 20KGs?
Thank you in advance.

Left = 10kg, Right = 10kg, Standard Olympic Bar = 20kg.
Weight lifted = 10 + 10 + 20 = 40kg

But if I were to carry the dumbbells, say 10KG on each hand, then i would be lifting 10KGs in total right because I am only using one hand for each weight and not a combination of two hands?

By your train of thought, if you lifted just a barbell, which weighs 20 kg, does it mean you carry 20 kg per arm, equaling to a total of 40kg?

QUOTE(Far-KingOfSorts @ Nov 15 2013, 10:04 AM) demm.. i never included the weight of the bar in my calculations... TBH it does not really matter whether you include the weight of the bar or not UNLESS you are competing with someone as to who can lift the heaviest. Why? Because for example if I lift 10kg today (excluding the bar), and 15kg next week, it is still a 5kg progression, and will not in any way affect the amount of weights you lift.
