To all the n5 owner, just wanna know, does the n5's back heat up quick like n4 when you're on 3g/lte?
*

Just slightly warm, it's not roasting hot like on S4 SoCs.

I got mine yesterday. First impression is excellent. Build quality is awesome, ceramic button and matte black feels classy and the IPS Display is miles ahead of Xperia ZL. It's noticeably light too. ART really makes the phone on par with iOS in terms of responsiveness. My phone don't suffer from low volume from the speaker, it sounds good and loud but the quality isn't as good as the ZL.

A lot actually. There's an entire thread on Whirlpool forums with Aussies posting phone defects.
Now you might ask, what does an Australian forum have to do with us? well, since a major chunk of the first batch were bought from the Australian Play Store, it gives us a good indication of what to expect.
*
I have read the thread. If you take a few of people as 'a lot' then you are mistaken. Where did you get the part where the first batch 'major chunk' were taken from Australian?

The threadS. There's more than one major thread for N5 defects (including General Discussion).
For the LYN grey imports, most of the sellers got theirs from Australia as their Play Store is one of, if not the first Play Store to get N5 stock.... which therefore, of course, turns to be a "major chunk" of the first batch to arrive in Malaysia.
*

There are various other sources where those seller got their sets from. US, Korean, HK to name a few. Aussies isnt the first to get it anyway. Of course if you been reading threadtitle with 'problems' on it it for sure you will get it. From those number it is small relative to the numbers LG sold. Dont expect everything is sunshine and summer day, but if you being delusional about defects, every single consumer product got lemon units once in a while. Just dont lose any sleep because of it.

I never tested headphone output of this phone till today. And wow, the sound it produces is quite pleasing. Good audio separation and percussion rendered pretty well.

EDIT: For those who kept saying initial batches are problematic, it isnt. My phone dont suffer any of those problems. No backlight bleeding, no power button rattle, onboard speaker is nice and loud. One thing I gotta tell people regardless of religion is, if your money is to be spend on something else or you stole it (your wife, kids, parents etc or you took company money from OT but you didnt really doing it or dont do work properly like coming late etc.) remember those things will come back to you, one of those are you get defective new stuff.

Mine is black as well, I always runs the phone naked, with no screen protector. Whats the point of case anyway? Just makes the phone thicker and uglier. The black matte back is as good as casing anyway. And it doesn't scratch easily by the look of it.

that's a nice target to aim for, but wouldn't that affect your upgrades and push services if they don't run in the background?
*

Why dont you try it? Its not totally disabling it it just stop it from waking up. Its still updating the apps when there is new apps available from my experience.

It sucks that LG themselves chose not to support the "phone of the year", even when their own logo is printed at the back...

If this trend continues, I think Google's strategy should be to just let Motorola manufacture the Nexus line... And then do proper worldwide launch
*
You gotta be kidding, Moto manufactured worldwide? Their Razr HD don't even reach here, don't even mention the newer Droid line or Moto X shakehead.gif

For those who flashed to 4.4.1 just stick with stock kernel for now, the kernel sources isn't out yet from what I know so those developer can't update their kernel just yet. If you managed to run it, some functionality won't work like video recording

ooo like that ar... i am staying in Penang and all sellers are from KL, if got problem means that I have to send back to KL's seller, right....
*
For all these seller who brought them here you need to ask them yourself how they claim the warranty whether they can do it for you or you do it yourself. Most could claim the warranty but you might need to pay for the shipping cost.

So anyone here updated to 4.4.1?
Please share your finding. :-)
I'm still waiting for OTA
*
Why wait? Just do it. The camera improvement alone is worth the update. Also WhatsApp works in ART now.

Reaaally?! Imma try it now!

Strange, can't get the phone to boot into ART, selected ART from developer options and clicked OK, but still boots using dalvik

I'm on custom recovery & kernel & 30% battery, does any of these matter?
*
Some apps like Xposed prevents you from changing to ART because its unsupported. I'm running Franco and Linaro kernel with no problem on ART

Mind telling me why you guys choose Nexus 5 over LG G2?
Both manufactured by LG and G2 has better camera with all the unnecessary bloat wares which can be corrected with Custom Rom.
Otherwise specs are similar
Asking because I need to make an educated choice
*
For me it's simple. Nexus always got the first updates from Google and the kernel sources are free so there are bunch of modders supporting the device.

Although total custom ROM like CyanogenMod is possible for any other phones like the G2, IMO the best are still the stock ROM because there is always bugs that take time to be ironed out on custom ROM, and Google own ROM is the cleanest without any bloat. The only thing I need is custom kernel which I could tinker the core components of the phone like CPU and GPU depending on my needs to optimise battery life and heat emission.

I 2nd that...btw IMHO for those who are new to rooting and android it's good and safer for them to use a toolkit like this...even for a season android user...I know its not hard to learn by googling the solution but it wont hurt by using a simplified steps/toolkit like the one created by WugFresh...
*

Nope I still recommend you know what you are doing. These toolkit still not really perfect. I been using WugFresh too but it messed up my TWRP installation that I end up doing so manually. What if a newbie have my problem? Would they panicked to the forum or just raging to the author?

How many people in this forum actually know what 'root' means?

Anyhow I'm not happy with the camera in 4.4.2, boosted color, in bright areas it uses too fast shutter that it lost detail in the dark and in artificial lighting it uses too high ISO that it produces noise. 4.4 is better, less noise.

@Najmods, try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2563476

just flashed it on my 4.4.2 this morning, pretty nice wink.gif
*
That just forced the camera to run 100% JPEG quality and improve bitrate, and it didn't support ART yet.

If you not a Superb Gamer like installing couple of High HD 1GB-3GB Game into your smartphone, you can live with 16GB.

I using Nexus 4 16GB, inside got 2 Nandroid backup, and some minor game like KingdomRush & PvZ2. the rest is msg/photos/pdf file. still have 2-3GB left.
*

Meh you can fit plenty big games in it if you careful what you put in it, I got two big games, GTA III and Vice City plus a couple of simple games PvZ2 and Hill Climb Racing with around 100 mp3 files among other files, only use half of the available storage.

Yeah, need to more carefully manage file space, if user are lazy type, then is hard for them.

Same story like this, do you ever heard of your friend complaining about their PC are lag and slow. Then after found that they have 95% used up of C Drive and 1% used up of D/E Drive. sweat.gif
*
PC is still OK, I once repair a phone with only few MB of storage left. Full of virus, push-ads and porn, both apps and video shakehead.gif
